MLB All-Star Game starting lineups: Skenes, Skubal pitch; batting order
It's the second All-Star start in a row for Skenes, who was picked to open in 2024 despite having just 11 MLB starts under his belt. Skenes has an NL-best 2.01 ERA in 20 starts this season and has surrendered just six home runs, but has a 4-8 record for the last-place Pirates.
"Excited to go oat it with these guys tomorrow night, and obviously be able to give the ball to Tarik Skubal," Boone said. "Coming off a Cy Young season, and continuing that dominance in the first half of the season ... Can't wait to see him go get us off to a good start tomorrow."
Skubal, the 2024 AL Cy Young winner, has been even better this year. The 28-year-old is 10-2 with 2.23 ERA, and and leads the AL in strikeouts per nine (11.4), WHIP (0.826) and strikeouts per walk (9.6) - all up from last year's historic campaign.

Ronnie O'Sullivan rival could land £210k windfall despite not qualifying for tournament
Ali Carter has reached the Shanghai Masters final against the odds - with the snooker star not even qualifying for the tournament - and he could now collect a huge pay packet if he can defeat Kyren Wilson Snooker star Ali Carter could take home the £210,000 jackpot at the Shanghai Masters - even though he didn't qualify for the tournament - after reaching Sunday's final. Carter, a staunch rival of seven-time world champion Ronnie O'Sullivan, was not supposed to be playing in Shanghai after failing to qualify through his world ranking of just 17th. But world No.10 Mark Allen withdrew from the competition due to personal reasons, which allowed Carter an opportunity to enter as an unseeded player. Allen has stunned fans with his performances after producing a comeback win three times in a row. The first two feats were against Xiao Guodong and Mark Williams, who he beat 6-5 despite finding himself 5-2 down against both men. He had also been one frame and one big break away from exiting the tournament. And in the semi-finals he dusted himself off from 8-6 down against Mark Selby to prevail 10-8 and book his place in the final, where he will face Kyren Wilson. Wilson had secured a 10-5 win over local favourite Zhao Xintong, handing the Cyclone his first defeat since last November after winning six frames in a row. Carter addressed the discussion around his participation in the tournament due to Allen's withdrawal as he admitted he "shouldn't even be here" - and said his secret to success was to "just turn up and play". "It's just surreal, isn't it? When you don't take it too seriousl," he said. "I always want to win, whether I want to play someone at table tennis. But I was just out there competing. "The secret is not to think about anything. Just turn up and play. Whatever happens, happens. Really I shouldn't even be here now. If Mark Allen doesn't withdraw – I hope he is okay by the way – and I'm 40 points behind to Williams at 5-2 down. I'm looking at my watch thinking, well I could get the midnight flight here. All of a sudden, I have won and I'm in the final. Happy days." It comes days after Carter showed his class by hailing long-time rival O'Sullivan for his "unbelievable" performance against him in the World Championship earlier this year. The pair have a storied history of falling outs, with O'Sullivan calling him a "f***ing nightmare" in 2024 and telling him to "sort his life out" in an extraordinary press conference. But Carter but their bad blood to bed as he reflected on their entertaining encounter, saying: 'When I drew Ronnie, I was like oh f***ing hell, but he was good as gold. It's fine between me and him now, but it was the draw no one wanted, wasn't it? "And despite what people say, in the second half of the match he was unbelievable. I missed the boat in the first half really due to not quite being on it and then he got stronger."

Footage of MLB teammates' bizarre sexual handshake goes viral
Footage of the bizarre sexual handshake between Philadelphia Phillies teammates Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson has gone viral after the pair were seen touching each other. In the dugout of Friday's game against the Detroit Tigers, Harper approached Wilson, with the two high-fiving before appearing to check each other's athletic supporters. The move was done simultaneously and without eye contact, drawing the attention of the internet. Some have branded the move as strange, while others see it as two MLB players letting loose and not taking themselves too seriously. Wilson ended up replacing Harper in the game at first base after the two-time National League MVP was ejected from the contest. Yet, even in victory, many remember more about the duo's handshake than what occurred outside the dugout. Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson appeared to do a cup check while the game happened 'Christian Wilkins would THRIVE here,' one MLB fan said about the former Las Vegas Raider who was released in part for kissing a teammate. 'Damn. Keep that play in the clubhouse fellas,' a second person stated. 'Good friends double check if their friends remembered their cups,' a third added. Dude get Weston Wilson off this baseball team NOW. Bryce's non reaction too… I got my eyes on you now too Mr Harper,' a fourth said. 'Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson's handshake is nuts,' a fifth concluded. A collection of messages about Bryce Harper and Weston Wilson's bizarre handshake The Phillies enter Saturday's showdowns a half-game ahead of the New York Mets for first place in the NL East. Both teams are in solid shape to make the postseason, regardless of which wins the division. Harper has been an integral part of Philadelphia's push for the postseason this year, and has not been shy of drumming up controversy, including with MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred. Maybe his secret to staying relevant all along has been his dugout handshake with Wilson.

European heavyweights make Darwin Nunez their 'number one target' as Liverpool seek to sell the striker and finance a deal for Alexander Isak
Italian giants AC Milan have reportedly entered the race for Liverpool wantaway Darwin Nunez. The Uruguayan looks set to leave Merseyside this summer after making just eight starts as Arne Slot 's side breezed to the Premier League title. He had been the subject of interest from Antonio Conte 's Napoli earlier in the window, with the Italian club thought to have been negotiating a cut-price deal with Liverpool for the striker. But talks eventually collapsed after club officials failed to agree a price, with Napoli instead signing Udinese frontman Lorenzo Lucca. Now, AC Milan - who recently appointed Massimiliano Allegri as their manager - have identified Nunez as a target up front. The Rossoneri have made contract with the Uruguayan's representatives over a deal, according to Sky Sports in Italy. Nunez, who is also receiving interest from Saudi Pro League club Al-Hilal, is thought to be Milan's top target ahead of Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic, Manchester United's Rasmus Hojlund and Arnaud Kalimuendo, who plays in France for Rennes. The sale of Nunez just two years after he signed in a £85m deal from Benfica will no-doubt help Liverpool fund their pursuit of Newcastle United star Alexander Isak. Having already bolstered their ranks with the additions of Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong and Hugo Ekitike, the Reds submitted their first bid of £110m for the striker on Friday. Newcastle were thought to be disappointed by the offer and quickly rejected, with Liverpool chiefs expected to submit a second offer soon. The Mapgies are however reluctant to sell without a replacement lined-up as they continue their pursuit of RB Leipzig attacker Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenian has also been made aware of interest from Manchester United, and is currently thought to be weighing up his next move. Newcastle and Eddie Howe are also working on a deal to bring in Brentford's Yoane Wissa. If they're to secure Isak's services next season, Liverpool have been told it will take a bid of closer to £150m. The Swede is thought to have told the Magpies that he wants to join the league champions Isak has reportedly told Newcastle he wants to leave after reporting a thigh injury ahead of the club's pre-season tour of Asia. He spent last week training at former club Real Sociedad, but is expected to return to Tyneside this weekend. Speaking about the possible loss of his star man, Eddie Howe told Mail Sport: 'I know where he is, really, through the media. 'From that perspective, it's difficult for me to go into any kind of detail. The situation is far from ideal and is quite complex. 'I was made aware of a bid yesterday (Friday) and that bid was turned down, all before I'd even heard about it. 'People back in England are dealing with the situation. I don't know what happens next. From our perceptive, we still support Alex in every way and my wish is that we see him in a Newcastle shirt again.' The Premier League season is now just two weeks away, kicking off on Friday 15 August with Liverpool taking off Bournemouth.
