Iron Maiden founder Steve Harris, 69, plays Burnley FC friendly
Steve Harris formed Iron Maiden in east London in 1975, and they have sold more than 130 million copies of their albums worldwide and are considered one of the most influential rock bands of all time.They have received numerous Grammy's, Brit Awards and have even had a set of Royal Mail stamps commissioned.
The game was arranged around Iron Maiden's Run for Your Lives European Tour, which the band said would see them perform to more than one million fans."We've been playing these matches all around the world for years and we were delighted to be able to get a game in."We've been lucky enough to play at clubs like Barcelona, LA Galaxy and Bayern Munich and Burnley felt like the obvious choice in the North West," Mr Harris said.Alan Pace, Burnley chairman, said: "It was an absolute pleasure to welcome Steve and the Iron Maiden team to Burnley.Football has a special way of bringing people together and this was a fantastic example of that."

Yorkshire boost survival hopes after thrashing Sussex in Scarborough
Yorkshire have boosted their survival hopes in the Division One of the Rothesay County Championship with an innings-and-128-run thrashing of Sussex. Daniel Hughes and Danial Ibrahim had made fifties to give Sussex hope of batting out the final day in Scarborough, but Matt Milnes dismissed both overnight batters in his first couple of overs. Milnes was the pick of the Yorkshire attack with five for 31 as Sussex added just 80 runs on the fourth day, all out for 195 and only Fynn Hudson-Prentice offering resistance with an unbeaten 52. Victory for Yorkshire takes the White Rose up from ninth in the table to seventh, although there are only 15 points separating fifth-placed Hampshire and ninth-spotted Durham with three matches left. Hampshire might have put more of a gap between themselves and those below them ,but fell two wickets short of beating rock-bottom Worcestershire at New Road. A declaration on 313 for seven left the Pears needing 358 in 53 overs for just a second win of the season and Jake Libby cracked 106 from just 122 balls – his second century of the match. Hampshire kept chipping away, with highly-rated quicks Sonny Baker and Eddie Jack each claiming three wickets, but hands were shaken with Worcestershire on 303 for eight after 52.5 overs. Nottinghamshire sit nine points adrift of leaders Surrey after being held to a draw by Somerset at Trent Bridge. With a 106-run first-innings lead in a high-scoring match, Nottinghamshire needed to make inroads into Somerset's batting. But while Calvin Harrison took three wickets, Somerset getting to 200 for five meant a stalemate was agreed. Ed Barnard went from an overnight 90 to 108 for Warwickshire, but mid-afternoon rain meant their match at Essex petered out to a draw. In Division Two, Glamorgan remain on course for promotion after claiming their first win at Emirates Old Trafford since 1993. Any hopes of Lancashire reeling in 473 from an overnight 226 for five were soon extinguished despite Marcus Harris' 61 as the Red Rose were all out for 318. Leaders Leicestershire were frustrated by Ben Compton's double hundred as their clash at Kent ended in a draw. Unbeaten fifties from Luis Reece and Brooke Guest and the rain helped Derbyshire avoid defeat at Northamptonshire, while Joe Phillips hit his maiden first-class ton as Gloucestershire versus Middlesex was also draw at Cheltenham.

James Milner to wear number 20 at Brighton in memory of Diogo Jota
James Milner will wear the number 20 shirt at Brighton this season in memory of the late Diogo Jota, describing his former Liverpool team-mate as a 'great friend'. The Portuguese forward died aged 28 last month in a car crash, alongside his brother Andre Silva, just weeks after helping Liverpool clinch Premier League title glory. Liverpool have retired the number 20 jersey worn by Jota in his five seasons at Anfield, three of them alongside Milner before the veteran England midfielder moved to Brighton in the summer of 2023. With Carlos Baleba opting to have 17 on his back ahead of the 2025/26 campaign and vacating 20, Milner, who has been Brighton's number six, has swooped in to pay a touching tribute to Jota. 'Once I heard Carlos was looking to change his number and 20 was available, I wanted to do it as a mark of respect and pay tribute to Diogo Jota,' Milner said on the club's X channel. 'He was an amazing player who I was fortunate to play with and a great friend as well. 'It will be a great honour to wear his number in the Premier League this year.' Milner – whose contract was extended by Brighton in June for another season, which will take him past his 40th birthday – was among a number of Jota's former team-mates who attended his funeral in July. With 638 Premier League appearances already to his name, he sits within striking distance of Gareth Barry's all-time record of 653 games.
