The Silent Million: This is how Sheikh Mohammed saved the African continent from famine 40 years ago
The Dubai Government Media Office shared an inspiring story about His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, that took place 40 years ago. Sheikh Mohammed's life is truly exceptional — a unique blend of leadership and profound humanity. His kindness knows no bounds, with countless acts of generosity, unwavering support, and continuous aid, all reflecting the highest levels of compassion, refined character, and noble heritage. It comes as no surprise, then, that this humanitarian leader played a vital role in helping save the African continent from famine in 1985, during the live broadcast of the Live Aid concert, held to combat famine in Ethiopia. At the time, the event was on the verge of failure, as donations had only reached £10,000. Sheikh Mohammed stepped in and donated £1 million, giving the campaign a powerful boost and reigniting enthusiasm among donors worldwide. As a result, total donations soared to more than £150 million, making it one of the largest relief campaigns in history. According to British diplomatic correspondence, Sheikh Mohammed followed the concert while seated in his majlis in London. When his donation was announced, the event organizers were initially stunned and sceptical. The donation was later confirmed through an official call from Sheikh Mohammed's office in London. At the time, Sheikh Mohammed's donation was more than just financial support — it was a bold humanitarian stance that elevated Dubai's and the Arab world's role on the global humanitarian stage.

Speculation that the pair had broken up surfaced in April 2025 when fans noticed that Turner had unfollowed Pearson on Instagram. "Happy birthday my angel pie', she wrote alongside romantic photos of them in the post's caption. "30, flirty and thriving'. As of this article's posting, Turner follows Pearson again on Instagram. Turner and Pearson were first linked in October 2023. At the time, they were photographed kissing in Paris, where they were attending the Rugby World Cup Final. The sparks continued to fly when they were spotted kissing on an outing in London in December 2023, and Turner shared photos from a ski trip with Pearson on Instagram in January 2024.
