Cops arrest man wanted for pepper-spraying mom and baby on Queens subway
Cops arrested Edward Vargas, 32, around 11 a.m. on Thursday.
Vargas allegedly stomped up to the 25-year-old mom and her 11-month-old baby girl as they were sitting on a southbound M train last Friday and sprayed the woman in her face and arm with the stinging irritant as the train approached the Court Square-23rd St. station, according to police. Some of the noxious spray also hit the little girl in her face and arm.
The woman told police that, before she boarded the train a few stops to the north, the suspect had approached her and asked if he could use her cellphone. After she declined, they had no further interaction until he sprayed her on the train — apparently having followed her there from the station.
Vargas ran out of the subway at the station after spraying the woman and her child.
On Thursday cops escorted Vargas, who was wearing rust-orange velour pants and an orange and green shirt with a palm tree pattern, into a waiting police vehicle outside the 107th Precinct.
He is charged with two counts of assault.

During his plea hearing, Judge Steven Hippler said the court is not bound by the plea agreement and could impose a different sentence. Chapin, Kernodle, Mogen and Goncalves were killed at a home in Moscow, Idaho, during the early morning hours of Nov. 13, 2022. Kohberger was arrested at his parents' home in Pennsylvania six weeks later. Prosecutors said that if the case had gone to trial they would have used DNA evidence that linked Kohberger to the crime scene, his online purchase history, surveillance video of Koherger's car, and cellphone data that showed him in the vicinity of the killings. The families of the victims have been divided over the plea deal. Mogen's father told CBS News he was relieved to learn of the deal, saying it will allow his family to "actually put this behind us." The Goncalves family has bitterly criticized the agreement, and told CBS News after a gag order was lifted that they believe the plea deal gives Kohberger a chance to live a "better and more rewarding life inside" prison. Duane 'Dog the Bounty Hunter' Chapman's stepson Gregory Zecca has been placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold after 'accidentally' shooting and killing his 13-year-old son, Anthony Zecca. Greg is being monitored because he is so devastated by the loss of his only son that there are concerns he may try taking his life, a rep for the family told TMZ Tuesday. The rep made sure to note that the psych hold has nothing to do with Greg feeling guilty of a crime. The outlet reported that Greg has not been able to speak to family members or cops yet because he is heavily sedated. Page Six has reached out for comment Greg fatally shot Anthony in their Naples, Fla., apartment on Saturday night. According to the police report, the teen had an entry wound on his neck, just above his sternum, and no exit wound. Law enforcement told TMZ that Anthony had lost a ton of blood by the time they arrived. They performed CPR and other life-saving measures, including chest compressions, but he was pronounced dead just over two hours later. The firearm used in the fatal shooting was on the kitchen island when deputies arrived, per the police report. While no arrests have been made, an investigation remains ongoing. Greg is the son of Dog's wife, Francie Frane, whom he married in September 2021. 'We are grieving as a family over this incomprehensible tragic accident and would ask for continued prayers as we grieve the loss of our beloved grandson, Anthony,' they said in a statement. After news of the tragedy broke, social media users resurfaced photos of Greg and Anthony at a shooting range.
