Laura Whitmore to make her Cork stage debut
The former Love Island presenter will star as Rachel Watson in the thriller, which is based on Paula Hawkins' best-selling novel from 19 to 23 August.
Whitmore, who has also fronted shows on MTV and I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here spin-off, Celeb Juice, has been playing the role across the UK and after the Cork run, the play will then move to Bord Gáis Energy Theatre. In Dublin.
In The Girl on the Train, Rachel Watson longs for a different life and her only escape is the perfect couple she watches through the train window every day, happy and in love.
However, when Rachel learns that the woman she's been secretly watching has suddenly disappeared, she finds herself as a witness and even a suspect in a thrilling mystery in which she will face bigger revelations than she could ever have anticipated.
"I read the book when it first came out and I was obsessed by it," Whitmore says. "I love it when you find a book and all you can think about is that story.
"You wake up a little bit earlier to read the book and stay up too late to finish it. I am excited to show people my portrayal of Rachel this summer."
Whitmore previously appeared on the Irish stage last year when she starred in 2:22 A Ghost Story at Dublin's Olympia Theatre.
The cast for the Cork run also includes Daniel Burke, Zena Carswell, Samuel Collings, Freya Parksl, Paul McEwan,, Edward Harrison and understudies Ellie Gallimore and Oliver Brooke.
Whitmore trained at the Leinster School of Music and Drama, studied Shakespeare at RADA and holds a degree in Journalism from Dublin City University.
She wrote and starred in the short film Sadhbh for which she won The Ros Hubbard Award for acting in 2019. She toured in the role of Cleo in Peter James' Not Dead Enough in 2017.
Her film/TV acting credits include Queenie, Hulu's Four Weddings and a Funeral, 4.3.2.1 and Storage 24.

RTÉ presenter Seán Rocks dies aged 63 after brief illness
RTÉ radio presenter and actor Seán Rocks has died following a brief illness. He was 63. Rocks is best known to Irish audiences as the host of the broadcaster's long-running Radio 1 arts and culture show, Arena, which has aired on weeknights since 2009. On Arena, he interviewed countless high-profile actors, playwrights, authors, musicians, and artists, including Salman Rushdie, Edna O'Brien, Frank McGuinness, Roddy Doyle, Rupert Everett, Martin Sheen, Nicola Coughlan, and Brendan Gleeson. He had hosted the programme as recently as last Friday. Prior to Arena, Rocks worked as a presenter with RTÉ Lyric FM for nine years. Outside of radio, Rocks worked extensively as an actor both in Ireland and abroad, appearing on stage at the Abbey, Peacock, and Gate Theatres, as well as the Royal Court, National, Donmar Warehouse, and Tricycle theatres in London. His stage work included collaborations with several notable companies, including Rough Magic, Druid, and Field Day. "It is with enormous shock and sadness that we learned today of Seán's untimely passing," RTÉ director-general Kevin Bakhurst said on Thursday morning. "Seán said once: 'Radio is never about the presenter. It's about the person who is opposite you.' Loyal listeners, especially to Seán's beloved and long-running Arena on RTÉ Radio 1, will recognise the man in that quote: modest yet learned; subtle yet probing; curious yet polite." Mr Bakhurst said the "listener at home" was always Seán Rocks' focus. "Not only is radio the poorer for his passing, but so too has Ireland lost one of its most passionate advocates for the arts, and one of its most informed and versatile voices. I want to extend my most sincere sympathies to Seán's beloved Catherine, his children Christian and Morgan, his friends, and his colleagues at this terrible time.' Irish Examiner Arts/Culture Editor Des O'Driscoll described Seán Rocks as a "brilliant broadcaster". "He always sounded so knowledgeable in those interviews on Arena, and had a lovely warm manner that got the best out of his guests," he said. RTÉ's Director of Audio Patricia Monahan said her colleague's "passion for radio and the arts was infectious," and that his curiosity across cinema, theatre, books, and classical music "was compelling to listen to." "He was interested in everyone's point of view and had a great ability to command an audience's attention. He was never more at home than when he was on stage," she said. Ms Monahan added that Seán Rocks was always "full of energy and ambition for the future" and called his death "a huge, untimely loss to radio and RTÉ." "He will be sorely missed by his RTÉ Radio 1 colleagues and his wider RTÉ family. Our thoughts are of course with his beloved, Catherine, children Christian and Morgan and his extended family and friends," she added. "As you take your final bow Seán, May you rest in peace.'

Milestone moment for Kilkenny as city hosts its first ever Pride parade
As part of the four-day Kilkenny Pride Festival, over 500 participants moved through the medieval city during the inaugural Pride parade with hundreds of spectators cheering on from the sidelines. Saturday's parade embodied the theme of this year's festival, Le Chéile, the Irish word for together, as rainbow flags flew high and whistles and cheers pierced the air. The procession set off from Kilkenny Castle, weaving its way down High Street to Bateman Quay and crossing the River Nore to Butler House. There, the crowd paused for a group photograph before the family fun day started in the afternoon. The celebrations continued in the gardens of the Butler Gallery, as families and friends enjoyed performances from local and visiting artists such as Seafall, MARYANN, Antanna, poet Samantha Joyce, and singer Orlaith, compered by Poppy de Scrace. "We were overwhelmed by the show of support at Saturday's pride parade,' said Kilkenny Pride co-chair Alan Slattery. 'To see hundreds of people, young and old, clapping and cheering as we walked past was a wonderful experience. "We couldn't have asked for a better day." Kilkenny's Pride parade was supported by Kilkenny County Council and An Garda Síochána. More than 75 local businesses lent their support to the Kilkenny Pride Festival through funding, spot prizes, and donations. Kilkenny Pride Festival extended its thanks to the businesses, sponsors, volunteers and the committee members, Gary Chadwick, Ruth Flanagan, Etaoin Holahan, Helena Melin, Niamh Morgan, and Alan Slattery, for bringing it to life.
