DU UG Admissions: 7,790 apply under armed forces quota; final document deadline July 28
Delhi University has released a tentative list of candidates eligible under the CW category and has urged all applicants to carefully check their eligibility and priority status as mentioned on the website.
The university has made it clear that those who have been asked to submit their valid Educational Concession Certificate (ECC) and supporting documents must do so by 11:59 pm on Monday, July 28. This will be the final opportunity to submit the required documents, and no further extensions will be entertained.
As per university policy, five per cent of seats in all undergraduate programmes across colleges are reserved for children and widows of personnel from the armed forces and paramilitary forces. Admissions under this quota are based on a priority system notified by the Ministry of Defence. All candidates are required to provide a valid ECC issued by a competent authority at the time of admission.
The priority system, as defined in the official notification, includes a total of nine categories. Priority I includes widows or wards of defence personnel killed in action. Priority II covers wards of personnel disabled in action and boarded out due to service-related disability.
Priority III includes widows or wards of those who died in service with death attributable to military service. Priority IV refers to wards of personnel disabled in service and boarded out due to disability attributable to military service.
Priority V covers wards of ex-servicemen or serving personnel, including police personnel, who have received gallantry awards such as Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Maha Vir Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, Sena Medal (Gallantry), and others.
Priority VI includes wards of ex-servicemen. Priority VII is for wives of defence personnel who were disabled in action or service, or ex-servicemen and serving personnel awarded gallantry medals. Priority VIII and Priority IX are for wards and wives of currently serving personnel, respectively.
The university has also announced that the allocation of seats to CW category candidates will begin from the third round of seat allocation under the Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS).
Applicants have been advised to regularly visit the official admission website — admission.uod.ac.in — for updates and further instructions regarding the admission process.

DU upgraded list shows 71,000 UG admissions so far
The Delhi University (DU) on Tuesday released the list of upgraded admissions, bringing the number of confirmed allocations in undergraduate programmes to 71,000. (HT Photo) Following the release of the second allocation list on July 28 for UG admissions, the university had reopened an upgrade window on August 2, through which students admitted through round one and two could reorder their preferences. The window closed on August 3. According to data shared by the university, the number of total confirmed admissions stands at 71,130. '34,069 applicants have applied for an upgrade and 35,889 applicants have opted for a freeze. About 5,930 applicants received an upgrade in their higher choice,' the data further mentioned. DU has 71,624 undergraduate seats this year across 79 programmes in 69 colleges. Following the college verification and payment of fees for this upgradation round, which will continue till August 7, the university will release a list of vacant seats on August 8. This will mark the opening of the provision of mid-entry, through which candidates who either failed to apply to Common Seat Allocation System (CSAS) or could not complete the second phase of admission can apply. The mid-entry fee will be ₹1,000. Candidates will be able to apply through the mid-entry window which will remain open from 5pm on August 8 to 4.59pm on August 10. The third allocation list will be declared on August 13 and the first list of Extra-Curricular Activities (ECA) quota, sports quota and CW (Children or Widow of Armed Forces Personnel) quota will be declared on August 15. The admission process will conclude on August 19. To be sure, the academic session started on August 1. This year, the university advocated for a rushed admission timeline to start the academic session on time.

60 years on, 1965 war heroism lives on: Family gifts Capt C N Singh's Maha Vir Chakra to Garhwal Rifles
Chandigarh: A moment of immense honour unfolded in Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, on Tuesday, when Sukhdev Singh — brother of the valiant late Capt Chander Narayan Singh — presented the Maha Vir Chakra (MVC) and other medals of his decorated war hero brother to the Garhwal Rifles regiment. Capt Chander Narayan Singh, popularly called Capt C N Singh, is remembered as one of Himachal Pradesh's 13 recipients of the Maha Vir Chakra—the nation's second-highest military gallantry award for bravery in the face of enemy. On behalf of the Garhwal Rifles, the MVC was received by Lt Gen D S Rana, colonel of the Garhwal Rifles and Garhwal Scouts and the commander-in-chief of the Andaman and Nicobar Command. The ceremony was also attended by Lt Gen Rajan Sharawat, GOC, 9 Corps; Brig Vinod Singh Negi, commandant, Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre; Col Vishal Kumar Singh, commanding officer of 2 Garhwal Rifles, several veterans, and serving officers and troops of the Garhwal Rifles. In his address, Lt Gen Rana expressed gratitude to the family of Capt C N Singh for presenting the medals and alluded that the war hero was a true embodiment of courage, leadership, and bravery. "His legend will continue to inspire generations of Indian youth and future soldiers. The medals will be displayed at the Garhwal Rifles Regimental Centre Museum, Lansdowne, Uttarakhand. This will serve as a source of inspiration and will keep the legacy of Capt CN Singh alive in the heart of the Indian Army and the Nation for posterity," he added. On Aug 5, 1965, during the Indo-Pak war, Capt C N Singh, a young officer of 2 Garhwal Rifles, made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty while fighting Pakistani infiltrators. For his exceptional courage, bravery, and devotion to the nation, he was conferred with the Maha Vir Chakra. The handing over of the MVC by the family to the regiment was organised by the army on Tuesday to mark the 60th death anniversary of the gallant soldier.
