At least five persons were killed and 20 others were injured on Monday after an explosion at a chemical reactor unit triggered a fire at a pharmaceutical company near Hyderabad, The Hindu reported.
The blast took place at Sigachi Industries Private Limited, located in the Pashamylaram industrial area.
The fire caused part of the building to collapse, trapping workers under the debris.
The explosion was reported to the fire control room at 9.37 am, The Hindu reported.
Emergency teams, including 11 fire department vehicles, were deployed to the scene. Efforts are underway to locate any remaining trapped persons, The Hindu reported.
Fire department officials said all the injured workers have been taken to hospitals in the vicinity.

According to a preliminary assessment, the blast may have been caused by a pressure buildup inside a reactor at the pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, The Hindu reported. A detailed investigation has been launched to determine the exact cause of the incident and to assess whether safety norms were followed.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy told officials to ensure that the injured persons receive appropriate medical treatment, and said that the government was committed to supporting the affected families.
Sigachi Industries specialises in pharma excipients, nutraceuticals, cosmetics, and food ingredients. Following the blast, the company's stock on the Bombay Stock Exchange fell sharply by over 9%, trading at Rs 47.89 by 1 pm.

The UDF has formed a Health Commission led by health expert Dr S S Lal to study the serious issues in the state health sector that are affecting people. The five-member commission was asked to submit a report within the next six months. The preliminary report will be submitted within three months. The commission will meet the public, health experts, and experts from other institutions related to the health sector. 'The commission report will be the one which will help to form the alternative health policy and the 'Health Vision- 2025'. The other commission members are Dr N Sreejith, Dr Rajan Joseph Manjooran, Dr P N Ajitha, Dr O T Mohammad Basheer. Meanwhile, Congress has decided to organise protests in 13 districts except the capital district where the protest has been organised earlier, against the shortage of surgical equipment on July 1 in front of all medical colleges. The state-level inauguration will be held in Kannur. Meanwhile, the BJP state leadership has demanded the state government to come out with a white paper on the funds it got from the Central government and the details of the expenditure. BJP former state president K Surendran on Monday alleged that the state government has only spent 83 per cent of funds allotted to the state through Central projects. 'Through the National Health Mission in 2021-2024, the Central government has given Rs 1,198.54 crore for the rural health sector. For the urban health sector, Rs 1,770 crore has been given. In 2022-2023, the state had spent only 37.9 per cent. In 2024-2025 through NHM Rs 1,351.79 crore was given to the state. BJP will organise a protest march towards the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College superintendent's office on Tuesday,' Surendran told reporters.

Governor Anandiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will receive her at the venue. The event will also be attended by Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for AYUSH and Food Safety (Independent Charge) Dayashankar Mishra Dayalu, local MP Ravi Kishan Shukla, and other dignitaries. In a post on X on Tuesday morning, Adityanath said, 'A new era of health and culture is beginning in Gorakhpur. In the sacred land of Mahayogi Guru Shri Gorakhnath ji, the inauguration of Uttar Pradesh's first AYUSH University in the august presence of Honourable President Droupadi Murmu ji marks the beginning of a new age in healthcare services.' President Murmu began her visit on Monday from Bareilly, where she addressed the 11th convocation of the Indian Veterinary Research Institute as chief guest. Later in the day, she arrived in Gorakhpur and attended the first convocation of AIIMS Gorakhpur.
