Look: Sharjah Light Festival returns for 18 days; where to watch dazzling shows for free
To kick off the extravaganza, an impressive spectacle of drones and lights dazzled the sky at Sharjah Research, Technology and Innovation Park on Wednesday night.
From a swarm of drones drawing an aerial portrait of the Sharjah Ruler — Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi — to lights dancing to the rhythm of dramatic music, it was an opening number like no other.
The ceremony was punctuated with drones spelling out Sharjah's message to all: 'Smile, You Are in Sharjah'.
Featuring the creations of several artists, this year's Sharjah Light Festival will revolve around the theme 'Lights of Unit'. While the light shows are free for all to watch, entry to the main attraction, The Light Village, requires an entry fee of Dh10.

Four new locations were added to the festival's usual venues: SRTIP, Al Hefaiyah Lake in Al Kalba, Al Jada, and Al Heera Beach.

Visit The Light Village
Located outside Sharjah's University City Hall, The Light Village is the star of the entire festival this year.

Tickets are priced at Dh10 for adults and children above 12 years of age. Children under 11, people of determination, and seniors above 60 years old can enter for free.
Those who plan to visit the village more often can opt for a full season pass, priced at Dh120. These tickets can be bought either online or at the village's gates.

Al Dhaid Club launches "Open Art Studio" for children
Wide participation of children aged 7–12 The event, held on Tuesday morning at the club's premises, witnessed wide participation from children aged 7 to 12. They freely expressed their imagination and creativity by painting landmarks of the Emirate of Sharjah in ways that reflected their pride and sense of belonging to their city. The drawings included iconic landmarks such as the Sharjah Mosque, Al Qasba Canal, Al Majaz Waterfront, and historical heritage buildings, expressing the children's love for the emirate through impactful artistic expressions. A joyful and encouraging artistic environment The club's administration ensured the availability of all art supplies—colors, tools, and materials—and created an engaging and stimulating environment that brought joy and focus to the space. The children were gently guided and encouraged by supervisors who supported them to express themselves freely. Emphasising culture and art in summer programmes Salem Mohammed bin Howaiden, Chairman of Al Dhaid Club, emphasised the importance of including cultural and artistic activities in summer programs, given their role in developing children's creativity and artistic taste, and fostering patriotism and belonging through art. He stated:"Al Dhaid Club is keen to ensure its summer programmes are comprehensive and balanced, not limited to sports activities, but extending to cultural and educational dimensions that contribute to the holistic development of the child." A flagship event blending art, fun, and national identity He added that "Huna Al Sharjah Art Studio" is one of the highlight events of the current week, embodying the club's vision to turn summer into a genuine opportunity for skill-building and nurturing a sense of belonging. This is achieved through activities that blend entertainment with awareness, and art with patriotism.

Giri and Abdusattorov share lead as Sharjah Masters surpasses 1m views
The 8th edition of the Sharjah International Masters Chess Championship, organized by the Sharjah Cultural and Chess Club under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has officially surpassed one million views across social media platforms and international chess websites. Abdallah Murad Al Mazmi, Tournament Director, attributed this milestone to the global interest in the event, which features 350 players from 60 countries — making it a truly international competition. He noted that the daily broadcast of matches on specialized global platforms draws over 250,000 views per day, with India leading in online engagement due to the country's strong player representation and deep-rooted chess culture. Al Mazmi added that the presence of many internationally titled players significantly enhanced the tournament's prestige. The Sharjah Masters is also officially recognized by FIDE, allowing participants to earn qualifying points for the World Cup. In a major achievement, China's Huang Renjie secured the title of International Master after earning 3.5 points — with five draws and one victory — achieving his final norm. He becomes the second player in this edition to earn a title, following Kazakhstan's Edgar Mamedov, who was awarded the Grandmaster title. This marks the first time in the tournament's history that two players have earned international titles during the event. Meanwhile, the eighth round of the championship was inaugurated by Dr. Sultan Al Taher, Board Member of the UAE Chess Federation and Head of Technical Affairs, along with Imran Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, and Omar Fathi Afana, General Manager of FAST Contracting Company, a sponsor of the tournament. The penultimate round featured intense competition at the top of the leaderboard, as Dutch Grandmaster Anish Giri and top-seed Uzbek Nodirbek Abdusattorov shared the lead with 6 points. They were closely followed by a group of five players with 5.5 points: Serbians Aleksandar Indjic and Velimir Ivic, Armenian Shant Sargsyan, and Iranians Bardiya Daneshvar and Amin Tabatabaei. Fourteen players, including UAE's Salem Abdulrahman of the Sharjah Cultural Chess Club, trail just behind with 5 points.
