Iranian hackers have been accused in recent years of targeting banks, a Saudi oil company and US elections. The country has repeatedly shown a willingness to use cyberattacks against adversaries with stronger cyber capabilities than itself, including Israel, according to a 2024 threat assessment by
US intelligence

Iran's top military general on Monday said that the American strikes on its nuclear sites had given Iran a free hand for retaliatory measures. Still, while Iranian cyberattacks could disrupt specific targets, John Hultquist, chief analyst at Google's Threat Intelligence Group, warned that the country frequently fabricates or exaggerates its capabilities "in an effort to boost their psychological impact."
"We should be careful not to overestimate these incidents and inadvertently assist the actors," he said.

However, the latest images suggest that the magnetic coils may be integrated directly into the phone's body, allowing support for a wider range of Qi2-compatible accessories. In addition to the phones themselves, Google is reportedly preparing a new accessory ecosystem under the Pixelsnap name, which may include custom cases and magnetic wireless chargers. One image reveals a circular wireless charger that resembles the current Pixel Watch charger but in a larger size. The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) recently introduced the Qi2 25W charging standard, which increases the maximum wireless charging speed from 15W to 25W. Google is expected to bypass the regular Qi2 specification and adopt the faster 25W Qi2 version for its upcoming Pixel phones. Although the magnetic charger appears only on the standard Pixel 10 model in the leaked image, it's likely that the full Pixel 10 series will offer this new functionality. What is Qi charging? Qi is a widely used wireless charging standard created by the Wireless Power Consortium. It operates through electromagnetic induction, transmitting power from a charging pad (transmitter) to a compatible device (receiver), eliminating the need for charging cables. Qi2, introduced in 2023, builds on Apple's MagSafe concept by adding a magnetic ring to improve alignment between devices and chargers, thereby increasing charging efficiency and stability. Initially capped at 15W, the standard has recently been upgraded to support speeds of up to 25W. Made by Google event: Details Google's annual Made by Google event is scheduled for August 20. Pope marks 50th anniversary of Cold War-era deal on security, human rights
Rome, Jul 30 (AP) Pope Leo XIV on Wednesday called for a renewed commitment to diplomacy to resolve conflicts as he marked the 50th anniversary of the Helsinki Accords, the landmark Cold War-era agreement that ushered in a new era of security and human rights. At the end of his general audience, history's first American pope said that August 1 marks the anniversary of the conclusion of the 35-nation summit in Finland that resulted in the Helsinki Final Act, which years later helped give birth to the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Renewing his appeal for peace in the world, Leo said: 'Today, more than ever, it is imperative to cherish the spirit of Helsinki, persevere in dialogue, strengthen cooperation and make diplomacy the preferred way to prevent and resolve conflicts." At the height of the Cold War detente in the 1970s, Finnish President Urho Kekkonen hosted a US-Soviet summit where US President Gerald Ford, Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev and others signed a watershed commitment to peace, East-West contacts, European security and human rights. Leo said the agreement had 'inaugurated a new geopolitical season, favouring a rapprochement between East and West. It marked a renewed interest in human rights with particular attention to religious freedom, considered one of the fundamentals of the nascent architecture of cooperation from Vancouver to Vladivostok." With Russia's war raging in Ukraine, Leo recalled that the Holy See had sent a delegation to the Finnish summit headed by future secretary of state Archbishop Agostino Casaroli, best known for promoting and pursuing a policy of Ostpolitik, or openness and dialogue with Eastern Europe. 'While I entrust the victims to God's loving mercy, I pray for the wounded and for Christians who around the world continue to suffer violence and persecution, exhorting all those with responsibility at the local and international level to collaborate to prevent similar tragedies," he said. Wednesday's general audience marked the resumption of Leo's weekly encounter with the faithful following a weeks-long summer break.
