Google issues surprise Pixel Drop with Gemini for Wear OS
Google today announced a surprise Pixel Drop, previously known as a Pixel Feature Drop. These usually come every three months but we weren't expecting one until September. So that's why they call it a surprise. It brings a free year of the Google AI Pro subscription to owners of the Pixel 9 Pro (and presumably the Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold as well). This includes access to Veo 3, Google's AI video creating tool. Next up, Circle to Search gets AI Mode integration, letting you access AI Mode's "advanced reasoning" to "explore complex topics and dig into your initial searches with follow-up questions" without switching apps. This works automatically when Google's systems "determine an AI response to be most helpful". If so, then an AI Overview will appear in your results, and from there you can tap on "dive deeper with AI Mode" to ask follow-up questions and "explore content across the web that's relevant to your visual search". AI Mode can also now be accessed through Lens via the Google app for Android and iOS. AI Mode in Circle to Search and Lens is currently only available in the US and India. Starting today, Circle to Search can also help you in games, giving you tips when you feel stuck. You'll even see suggested videos to help you further navigate your game. This is out today in the countries where AI Overviews are available. And speaking of AI Overviews, the responses should now be "easier to read, breaking down key information, and incorporating more visuals directly". Finally, Gemini is headed to Wear OS watches from Google, Samsung, Oppo, OnePlus, and Xiaomi. This will replace Google Assistant and will use the same advanced AI models as on your phone. Gemini on Wear OS lets you speak naturally, "understanding your speech patterns and delivering fast, concise responses" on your wrist. It also works across apps so you can ask it to send a message, create a playlist, summarize an email, add stuff to your calendar, and navigate places. You just need to enable action-taking within other Google apps like Gmail and Calendar on your paired phone. Gemini can also remember details you ask it to. You've got the mid-range Pixel 9a for the search giant's most cash-strapped fans, the (slightly) higher-end Pixel 9 available at an almost shockingly hefty $250 discount from its $799 list price, the even more advanced Pixel 9 Pro at $250 under its regular starting price of $999, a cheaper-than-ever (but still pretty expensive) Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and yes, the non-foldable Pixel 9 Pro XL colossus at a fittingly massive discount of its own. 5G, Unlocked, 128GB Storage, 16GB RAM, Android 15, Google Tensor G4 Processor, 6.8-Inch LTPO OLED Display with 2992 x 1344 Pixel Resolution and 120Hz Refresh Rate Technology, 50 + 48 +48MP Triple Rear-Facing Camera System, 42MP Front-Facing Camera, Gemini Integration, 5,060mAh Battery, Hazel Color, Amazon Prime Membership Required Buy at Amazon If you hurry (and have an Amazon Prime membership), the 6.8-inch Google Pixel 9 Pro XL can be yours for a whopping $350 less than its usual price of $1,099 with 128 gigs of internal storage space. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 hands-on
GSMArena Team , 09 July 2025 . The Galaxy Z Flip7 is undoubtedly the best Flip ever made, but it also has a solid claim to be the best flip-style foldable too. And it starts with the new cover screen. Not only is it bigger at 4.1 inches, up from 3.4 inches, but it's 40% brighter at 2,600 nits, and refreshes twice as fast at 120Hz. Samsung achieved the screen expansion by cutting down the bezels to a uniform 1.25mm, which the company claims is the thinnest ever on a Galaxy smartphone. A much bigger cover screen The Galaxy Z Flip7 packs a larger 4,300mAh battery than its predecessor's 4,000mAh, though charging is stuck at 25W wired and 15W wireless, sigh. The Z Flip7 weighs about the same as its predecessor, but is noticeably thinner. It's 6.5mm (vs 6.9mm) when unfolded and 13.7mm (vs 14.9mm) when folded. The new phone has the same IP48 water and dust resistance. We can't really say we noticed the extra thinness of the Galaxy Z Flip7, but the increase in width from 71.9mm to 75.2mm is noticeable. The phone's frame is the same Armor Aluminum as its predecessor's, but the Z Flip7 uses a restructured, thinner Armor FlexHinge. The outer glass is the same Gorilla Glass Victus 2. The new hinge That Victus 2 glass is frosted on the back panel and matches the matte frame of the phone in color. We find the Galaxy Z Flip7 to be an easy-to-handle device. It doesn't slip under your fingers. Still, Samsung has made a selection of two-piece cases for the Galaxy Z Flip7 (and Z Fold7), ranging in materials and finishes. New cases Pricing and availability Both the Galaxy Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 are available for pre-order starting today. General availability will begin on July 25. The Galaxy Z Fold7 ships in Blue Shadow, Jetblack, and Silver Shadow, while the Galaxy Z Flip7 is available in Blue Shadow, Jetblack, and Coral-red. However, both come in an online-exclusive Mint (pictured here). The Galaxy Z Fold7 is available in 12/256GB, 12/512GB, and 16GB/1TB configurations, priced $2,000/£1,800/€2,100, $2,120/£1,900/€2,220, and $2,420/£12,100/€2,520, respectively.
