KOTA KINABALU (Aug 5): An estimated 140 parade contingents are set to enliven the 2025 Sabah National Day celebrations.
State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Masidi Manjun stated that the contingents comprise government agencies, schools, voluntary organizations and uniformed units.
'What makes this year special is that, for the first time, the celebrations will be attended by Head of State Tun Musa Aman, adding greater significance to the event.
'Tun Musa is expected to arrive at 7:30am, so we anticipate official events will take place between 7:30am and 10:30am.
'We also expect public attendance to mirror last year's, where strategic spots along the parade route will be filled early.
'Therefore, I urge all Sabahans to come together in celebrating and attending the event on August 31 at Jalan Tun Fuad Stephens, to demonstrate our love for our nation and for Sabah,' he told reporters after paying a courtesy call on Tun Musa at Istana Seri Kinabalu on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Masidi, who is also the chairman of the 2025 Sabah National Day Main Committee, said this year's theme, 'Malaysia Madani: People Embraced' (Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni), resonates deeply, especially with leaders.
'This theme is profoundly relevant, particularly as a call to leaders and those entrusted with positions of authority to always be on the ground, engaging with and caring for the people.
'Thus, this theme urges leaders to be present among the people, show compassion, and visibly demonstrate their presence as the pillars upon whom the people rely to realize their aspirations,' he added.
He also advised the public to continue flying the Jalur Gemilang and the Sabah state flag as symbols of love for Malaysia and the state of Sabah.
Also present were Assistant Finance Minister Datuk Tan Lee Fatt and Kota Kinabalu City Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah.

Hartalega shares fall on RM101.36m additional tax bill, weaker quarterly earnings

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Shares in glove manufacturer Hartalega Holdings Bhd fell in early trade on Wednesday after it disclosed a RM101.36 million additional tax bill from the Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) and reported weaker first-quarter earnings. At 10.07 am, the counter dropped six sen, or 4.55 per cent, to RM1.26, with 12.08 million shares changing hands. In a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Tuesday, the company said its wholly owned subsidiary, Hartalega NGC Sdn Bhd, had received a notice of additional assessment from LHDN for the years of assessment 2017 to 2022. Hartalega said it is seeking legal advice and evaluating its options, which may include filing a formal appeal. For the first quarter ended 30 June 2025, the group posted a lower net profit of RM12.61 million, compared with RM31.93 million a year earlier. Revenue declined to RM553.11 million from RM583.84 million previously. Public Investment Bank Bhd said it expects Hartalega to remain under pressure due to rising operating costs, persistent overcapacity in the sector, and intense price competition from regional players, particularly in China. 'Pricing pressure is expected to persist, especially in non-US markets, where Chinese manufacturers continue to offer products at a steep discount of a cumulative US$14–15 per 1,000 pieces,' it said in a note today. The investment bank maintained its 'neutral' rating on Hartalega, while lowering its target price to RM1.44 per share. — Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 6 — Lead investment agency for Greater Kuala Lumpur (KL) InvestKL has secured RM2.8 billion in committed investments in the first half of 2025 (1H 2025), anchoring five new regional hubs in the area and creating 1,197 high-skilled job opportunities. InvestKL chief executive officer Datuk Muhammad Azmi Zulkifli said these investments demonstrate continued confidence in Malaysia's strong fundamentals and mark a milestone in enhancing the region's ease of doing business. 'As global companies adapt to evolving market conditions, including trade realignments and rising tariffs, Greater KL offers a future-ready ecosystem underpinned by robust infrastructure, world-class talent and proactive government support. 'We are also seeing strong momentum in artificial intelligence, digital, and technology-driven investments. It is a testament to Malaysia's strategic focus on high-value, innovation-led activities that will ensure long-term competitiveness and economic resilience,' he said. In a statement, InvestKL said this achievement reinforces Greater KL's rise as a strategic destination for global companies investing in high-value, innovation-driven services, a key pillar in Malaysia's strategy for long-term economic resilience. It said the 1,197 new jobs span regional, specialist and support functions, with average executive salaries exceeding RM11,700 per month. It added that the new investments span sectors including information technology infrastructure, consumer healthcare, materials science, financial asset servicing and renewable energy. These hubs will serve as platforms for regional growth, advancing Malaysia's position in the global services value chain, it noted. 'This milestone brings InvestKL's cumulative achievements to over 150 global services hubs and 31,000 high-skilled jobs since inception. '(This aligns) with the Madani Economic Framework, National Investment Aspirations, New Industrial Master Plan 2030, as well as Malaysia's 12th and 13th Malaysia Plan, all of which emphasise services-led growth, innovation and inclusive development,' it said. — Bernama
