CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) — Starting Monday, May 12, drivers in Corning should expect some travel delays on Interstate 86.
According to the New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT), there will be off-and-on lane reductions on the bridge that carries I-86 over the Norfolk Southern Railway's Southern Tier Line in the City of Corning.

NYSDOT announced in a release that the impacted area is just west of Exit 48 (State Route 352). The release explained that people also may know it as the 'Icicle Bridge.' NYSDOT said both eastbound and westbound passing lanes will be affected while crews work along the shoulders and median. This project work should wrap up by the end of June, the release stated.
The release further explained that nighttime repair work is also scheduled over four weekends in July and August, and NYSDOT plans to keep the public updated as that work gets closer.

In the meantime, NYSDOT said to expect possible travel delays and consider alternate routes if you're passing through the area. As always, weather can shift the schedule, the release stated that things may change depending on conditions.
NYSDOT is reminding drivers to slow down and stay alert in work zones. Speeding fines are doubled in these areas, according to NYSDOT, and getting two or more speeding violations in a work zone could lead to a license suspension.

McNair High in Stockton flooded by water main break, students shift to remote learning

A Stockton-area school is shifting to remote learning for the day after a water main broke and caused flooding on campus. The Lodi Unified School District announced Monday that McNair High School will be on remote learning for the day due to the situation. "Students will need to log onto their Google Classroom during their class periods. Students on campus will be going home," the district said in a statement. Video from the scene shows significant flooding in one of McNair's buildings. It appears several classrooms are impacted. Workers are trying to mitigate the damage. It's unclear how the water main broke and how long the school will be in remote learning. Lodi Unified schools only just returned from summer break last Tuesday.

Hudson Valley weather: Warm, sunny and hazy Aug. 4 in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam

The Lower Hudson Valley can expect some warm and sunny weather for the first full week of August, but residents will want to be ready for air quality issues due to Canadian wildfires. The National Weather Service issued an air quality alert for Westchester, Rockland and Putnam counties Monday, Aug. 4, valid until midnight Aug. 5, thanks to raging wildfires up north in Canada. Lower Hudson Valley air quality alert Monday, Aug. 4 NYSDEC said ground level ozone and particulate matter in the air due to wildfires in Ontario could exceed safe air quality index levels over 100. As of 9:45 a.m., measured the Lower Hudson Valley's Air Quality Index as "Moderate," with an AQI score of 74, an Ozone level of 14 and a particulate matter level of 101. NYSDEC says the risk for individuals who may be prone to respiratory illness was expected to increase as the day continues, and temperatures rise. At-risk populations for poor air quality include "the very young, and those with preexisting respiratory problems such as asthma or heart disease," said NWS in the alert. NYSDEC said those at risk should stay inside and limit physical activity. Sunny skies and warm temperatures to kick off August Despite air quality issues, Monday is presenting itself to be a beautiful day. There will be some widespread haze due to the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, but skies will be sunny with high temperatures near 89 degrees. Overnight, the haze is expected to stick around with partly cloudy skies and lows near 66 degrees. Tuesday and Wednesday should look similar to Monday. Tuesday should bring mostly sunny skies with high temps near 88 in the day and lows near 66 overnight. Wednesday should also be sunny, with a bit more clouds in the sky and lower temperatures compared to the beginning of the week, near 84 degrees. Overnight will be mostly cloudy again with temperatures at a steady 66 degrees.
