Egypt talks cooperation in aviation safety programs at AFI Aviation Week
CAIRO - 31 May 2025: On the sidelines of Africa Aviation Week 2025 (AFI Aviation Week) in Zimbabwe, Egypt's Minister of Civil Aviation, Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, held a series of high-level bilateral meetings aimed at deepening international cooperation in civil aviation.
A key engagement featured an expanded session with Boeing officials, led by Kayode "Kay" Ariwudola, Boeing's Director of Global Safety and Regulatory Affairs for the Middle East and Africa. The meeting was also attended by Captain Amr El-Sharkawy, Chairman of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority.
Discussions focused on advancing aviation safety and fostering sustainable aviation practices. Key topics included the integration of carbon-reduction technologies and the increased use of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Both sides underscored the importance of aligning with international safety standards while enhancing regulatory and technical capacities to ensure optimal safety in the sector.
The talks aligned with Egypt's broader national strategy, which emphasizes sustainable development and the implementation of environmental standards across all sectors, including air transport. Dr. El-Hefny reaffirmed the Ministry's commitment to transforming Egypt's aviation industry through environmentally conscious practices, including the adoption of clean fuels and the modernization of aviation infrastructure in line with global sustainability benchmarks.
Highlighting Egypt's potential as a regional leader in green aviation technologies, Dr. El-Hefny emphasized the Ministry's efforts to attract high-quality investments by fostering a supportive business climate. He noted that Egypt is eager to leverage international expertise in environmental innovation to further its sustainable development goals.
Participating nations at the event echoed these priorities, reinforcing their commitment to environmental sustainability in aviation. Renewed support was voiced for the ICAO Global Framework for Sustainable Aviation Fuels, as well as the ACT-SAF (Assistance, Capacity Building, and Training for Sustainable Aviation Fuels) program, which promotes the adoption of low-carbon aviation technologies and clean energy sources.
Boeing's Kayode Ariwudola praised Egypt's environmental strides in aviation, particularly its move toward sustainable operational models. He reaffirmed Boeing's dedication to partnering with Egypt to deliver innovative solutions that enhance fuel efficiency and reduce aviation's carbon footprint.

The Egyptian foreign minister also reviewed a number of government initiatives launched to support Egyptians abroad and reinforce their connection with the homeland. These include investment initiatives and economic incentives specifically designed for them, including the initiative to allow Egyptians abroad to import cars, the military service settlement initiative 'Your Home in Egypt' initiative, 'Your Farm in Egypt' initiative, the secure transfer initiative via InstaPay, 'Speak Arabic' campaign and 'Boats of Salvation' initiative. He also mentioned initiatives aimed at facilitating investment procedures for Egyptians abroad and encouraging their contribution to major national projects. Abdelatty also referred to ongoing preparations for the sixth edition of the Conference for Egyptians Abroad, scheduled to take place on August 3 and 4, 2025. The conference serves as an open dialogue platform between Egyptians abroad and decision-makers and is held annually to present ideas and proposals directly to ministers and senior officials, said the minister.

Egypt, India discuss expanding industrial, investment partnerships
Mohamed El-Shimy, Minister of Public Enterprises Sector, held a meeting with Suresh Reddy, India's ambassador to Egypt, to enhance bilateral cooperation in economic and industrial fields and explore partnership opportunities with companies affiliated with the ministry. At the outset, El-Shimy praised the long-standing and historic ties between Egypt and India, expressing hope to elevate these relations to broader horizons of cooperation. He also highlighted the range of incentives and facilitations that Egypt offers to foreign investors, inviting Indian businessmen and investors to visit the ministry's factories and companies to see their capabilities and investment prospects up close—particularly in sectors identified as priorities for joint collaboration. El-Shimy and Ambassador Reddy reviewed the portfolio of companies affiliated with the ministry, detailing their areas of operation and the investment opportunities they present. This portfolio offers a solid foundation for potential industrial and commercial partnerships. For his part, Reddy affirmed the depth and strength of Egypt–India relations, describing them as 'historical and rooted in mutual respect and cooperation' across many domains. He expressed his country's interest in further strengthening ties with Egypt, particularly in economic and industrial sectors, noting Egypt's strategic geographic location, modern infrastructure, and significant investment potential. Cairo Airport unveils smart Terminal 4, boosting capacity to 60 million passengers
Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly held a meeting on Thursday to follow up on the implementation procedures for the 'Terminal IV' project at the Cairo International Airport. The meeting was attended by Civil Aviation Minister Sameh al-Hefny, the Head of the Armed Forces Financial Affairs Authority Major General Khaled Abdullah, and the Head of the Armed Forces Engineering Authority Major General Walid Aref. At the start of the meeting, the Prime Minister discussed the great importance of the 'Terminal IV' project at the Cairo International Airport, as it will help provide a qualitative shift to the airport, the gateway to Egypt. This reflects the scale of the development projects being implemented and the cultural renaissance taking place across various sectors, he said. Madbouly emphasized the need to seek the assistance of the best international consulting firms specializing in designing such projects. During the meeting, the Minister of Aviation reviewed all information related to the new 'Terminal IV' at Cairo International Airport, which will help raise the quality of services and infrastructure at the airport, contributing to raising the airport's total capacity to 60 million passengers annually. Hefny emphasized that the project will rely on advanced systems and technological developments regarding airport operations, including those related to air navigation, ground operations, building operations, and infrastructure. It will also integrate innovative technologies based on the latest research and development results to provide a fully smart environment. The Minister of Aviation noted that financial and technical studies for the project have been completed, and the new terminal's capacity is expected to reach 30 million passengers annually. The Minister of Civil Aviation also added that the new terminal project is expected to become a pioneering model in the design and operation of airports around the world, as it will rely on smart technologies.
