‘Seats will be recaptured': Zahid says Umno conducting studies to identify PAS, Bersatu-held areas to target next GE
Its chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said that, for this purpose, various studies and surveys would be conducted to identify potential seats the party has a strong chance of winning.
'We will work hard... and the seats will be recaptured by Umno candidates in the upcoming GE,' he said when officiating the closing ceremony of the Sri Gading Umno Division Delegates' Meeting here today.
Also present were Johor Umno Liaison Committee chairman and Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, as well as Sri Gading Umno Division chief Datuk Mohd Lassim Burhan.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Umno president, urged all members not to be swayed by the 'UMDAP' narrative propagated by the opposition, stressing that the current political cooperation involves a coalition between Barisan Nasional (BN) and Pakatan Harapan (PH).
'In BN, we also have MCA and MIC; in PH, there are DAP, PKR, and Amanah. So, let's not fall for the opposition's propaganda aimed at driving a wedge between BN and PH just so they can resort to the 'tebuk atap' (backdoor) tactic again,' said the Deputy Prime Minister.
Ahmad Zahid said the political cooperation currently being forged is a reality that all party members must accept and understand to ensure the stability of the government and to pave the way for Umno's return to dominance.
'If we want to win, we must find a way to win. While we are in government, we must work seriously. We cannot expect victory if we are complacent, if we fight among ourselves, if we betray one another, or if we allow others to attack us without defending ourselves,' he said. — Bernama

Perikatan confirms Solaris Dutamas HQ shut after lease ended, denies claims of unpaid rent
KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 — Perikatan Nasional's (PN) headquarters in Solaris Dutamas, Kuala Lumpur has been closed following the expiry of its two-year lease in April, the coalition's secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has confirmed. Azmin said the decision not to renew the lease was reached through mutual agreement between the landlord and tenant, and was approved by PN's top leadership. 'This matter was informed to and agreed upon by the PN top leadership,' he was quoted saying by Sinar Harian. 'Nonetheless, the administration and operations of the PN headquarters continue as usual, handled by officers and staff at an unofficial location, while a new premises is being prepared.' He also criticised media reports claiming the closure was due to unpaid rent dating back to March, calling them unfounded and irresponsible. Meanwhile, Selangor PN secretary Dr Afif Bahardin said the coalition remains operational despite being without a physical office for now. 'We didn't shut down [operations], but the [rental] contract has ended. We are in the middle of finding a new location to turn into an office,' he told Malaysiakini. He said meetings are ongoing and there is no issue of the party ceasing operations. The Solaris Dutamas office had served as the venue for PN Supreme Council meetings since the coalition was formed in 2020. PN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin was previously quoted saying he was unaware of the specific circumstances of the closure, stating that such matters were under Azmin's purview.

Troops must not share sensitive content on social media, says minister
Defence minister Khaled Nordin said armed forces commanders must issue firm instructions to their personnel on the responsible use of social media. (Bernama pic) TAWAU : Members of the Malaysian armed forces have been reminded to refrain from uploading sensitive content on social media, particularly related to security assets, to prevent hostile parties from identifying the nation's defence capabilities. Defence minister Khaled Nordin said he was confident that armed forces commanders would issue firm instructions to their personnel to use social media responsibly and avoid compromising national security. 'Sometimes in their eagerness to showcase training or equipment, some personnel may unintentionally reveal where such assets are stored. 'This could expose our strengths to those with ill intent,' he told reporters after officiating the Tawau 2025 Civil-Military Cooperation (Cimic) carnival at the Tawau Sports Complex today. Khaled was responding to a reminder issued yesterday by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim, who cautioned military personnel against sharing everything on social media, particularly sensitive information related to troop movements and operations. Meanwhile, Khaled said the defence ministry continues to acquire strategic assets annually to strengthen national security. These are not off-the-shelf purchases, he stressed, but custom orders tailored to the armed forces's operational needs across land, air and sea to ensure suitability and effective deployment. 'We have already procured 18 FA-50 aircraft from South Korea, three littoral mission ships and are continuing with the construction of the littoral combat ships, alongside radar purchases to bolster our national defence,' he said. Commenting on ongoing global conflicts, including in Russia-Ukraine, Gaza, Iran-Israel, and India-Pakistan, he said these developments highlight the importance of Malaysia prioritising the acquisition of technology-driven defence assets. 'We are also aware of ongoing tensions in the South China Sea, which remain a serious concern. The government is committed to ensuring balanced defence preparedness between Sabah, Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia,' he added.
