Kanagawa cops arrest man for leaving corpse of ex-girlfriend in Kawasaki residence
On Monday, police sent Hideyuki Shirai to prosecutors on suspicion of abandoning the body of Asahi Okazaki, 20, inside his residence between December 20 last year and April 30.
On the night of April 30, police searched the home of Shirai on suspicion of violating the Stalking Prevention Act. A partially skeletal body was found in a bag.
At the time of the discovery, the whereabouts of Shirai were unknown. Police later learned that he fled to the United States in early April. He arrived at Haneda International Airport on May 3.

Okazaki is also a resident of Kawasaki. She disappeared from her home on the morning of December 20. The glass windows of her home were found to be broken and the door unlocked. Her family reported her missing to two days later.
After she went missing, her family asked for information on social media. In January, it was discovered that Okazaki's bicycle was found near the home of the former boyfriend.
Between December 9 and 20, Okazaki consulted with police about stalking by Shirai. 'Shirai is hanging around my house,' she said by telephone.
However, police did not question Shirai during this time.

He met Okazaki at a bar in Kawasaki with the president of his former employer. The two started dating around April last year. According to his family, they broke up about a month later, when Shirai's stalking began.
According to police, Okazaki consulted the nearest Kawasaki Rinko Police Station about domestic violence by Shirai from June onwards.
The police repeatedly warned Shirai, but stopped taking action after confirming that the two had reconciled last November.
However, a friend tells TV Asahi that Shirai's stalking is believed to have escalated in December when the two broke up again.

Broadcast of passed-out livestreamer leads police to yakuza theft ring
KANAGAWA (TR) – In October 2023, a male livestreamer fell asleep on a street in Yokohama City during a broadcast. Several thieves then swiped his smartphone and other items. Unbeknownst to them, the broadcast was still going when they fled the scene, ill-gotten gains in hand. Fast forward a year and a half. Kanagawa Prefectural Police this week announced the arrest of the 56-year-old boss of a criminal syndicate and three accomplices who are believed to have repeatedly worked with a ring that targeted drunk persons passed out in entertainment districts in Yokohama for thefts, reports the Asahi Shimbun (June 25). In one case, the four suspects, including Yoshifumi Shinkai, an executive in the Kodo-kai, are suspected working together to purchase necklaces and other items — worth approximately 1.84 million yen — with illegally obtained credit cards in other people's names on June 30 last year. The suspects used three stores, including pawnshops in Yokohama and Kawasaki cities, to make the purchases. Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Organized Crime Punishment Act, Shinkai declined to comment. Japan executes ‘Twitter Killer' Takahiro Shiraishi
TOKYO (TR) – The Ministry of Justice on Friday announced the execution of Takahiro Shiraishi, an inmate on death row over the murder and dismemberment of nine men and women. In 2020, a court convicted Takahiro Shiraishi, 34, of robbery, non-consensual sexual intercourse, murder and destruction of a corpse, reports Nippon News Network (June 27). In 2017, he killed the eight women and one man, aged 15 to 26, whom he had met on Twitter and other outlets at his apartment in Zama City. He also stole their valuables. Man arrested for stalking woman, posting slanderous comments and secretly filmed images online
Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 24-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of violating the Stalking Prevention Act by posting multiple slanderous comments about a former colleague, a woman in her 20s, on a social networking site. According to police, Mizuki Hara, who lives in Narita City, Chiba Prefecture, is accused of posting the comments and images of the woman at work on social media between December 7, 2024 and April 11 this year, Sankei Shimbun reported. In late March, the woman consulted the police, saying, "I was receiving messages saying 'You're cute' and obscene images from multiple email addresses that I don't recognize." Hara posted defamatory comments against the woman six times in total, but did not send any emails.
