Khamenei's representative to Shafaq News: No retreat from supporting resistance factions
Shafaq News – Basra Iran will continue supporting armed 'resistance factions' in Iraq and across the region, Mujtaba al-Husseini, the representative of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatullah Ali Khamenei in Iraq, told Shafaq News on Wednesday. Describing the groups' growing military strength as a source of fear for their adversaries, al-Husseini vowed that 'Iron Dome and Israeli weapons proved ineffective in the war with the Islamic Republic.' According to al-Husseini, the influence of Islamic resistance movements has expanded across Iraq, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, and beyond. This regional presence , he claimed, 'is the main reason behind US and Israeli efforts to target Iran.' He also condemned the recent Israeli attack as 'treacherous,' noting that it came at a time when Washington was speaking of negotiations. 'They took us by surprise with war. Iran has to defend itself and support the resistance forces,' he remarked. Al-Husseini also accused the United States of 'supporting over 20,000 institutions aimed at weakening religious identity.' These organizations, he alleged, operate under the guise of promoting freedom, democracy, and liberation, while 'working against the values of local populations.' Earlier, Iranian Consul in Najaf Sayyed Saeed Al-Sayyedin told Shafaq News that Tehran no longer trusts US guarantees, referencing the 2018 American withdrawal from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). 'Washington breached the nuclear agreement, and that's why Iran has no confidence in the United States,' he stated, rejecting any suggestion that Tehran initiated its current military confrontation with Israel. 'Iran did not start the war with Israel, nor did it seek to end it,' he asserted.

Germany seeks to resume Afghan and Syrian deportations
Shafaq News – Berlin Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt is pushing for direct negotiations with the Taliban to resume deportations of Afghan criminals, Focus magazine reported on Thursday. Dobrindt, of the Christian Social Union (CSU), argued that relying on intermediaries is no longer practical. 'I envision us reaching direct agreements with Afghanistan to enable deportations,' he told Focus. Since the Taliban seized power in 2021, Germany has largely suspended deportations to Afghanistan, except for one coordinated transfer last August that sent 28 convicted offenders to Kabul via Qatar. Dobrindt also condemned stalled efforts to deport criminals to Syria, noting that talks with Syria's interim authorities — formed after Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) ousted Bashar al-Assad — have yet to yield results. He further urged cuts to refugee admissions, calling Germany's annual ceiling of 200,000 asylum seekers unrealistic and unsustainable. 'A theoretical cap of 200,000 is no longer workable — and is far too high by today's standards,' he warned, citing 600,000 new asylum applications in the past two years, not including 1.2 million Ukrainians.

Foreign warnings urge Iraqis to avoid escalation against US-Led Coalition
Shafaq News – Baghdad Several Iraqi politicians have received warning messages from international sources urging them not to support or facilitate attacks against the US-led Global Coalition forces, a security expert told Shafaq News on Thursday. Saif Raad, a security and strategic affairs analyst, said that beginning last Saturday, a select group of Iraqi political figures received text messages on their personal phones warning of serious consequences if any attacks were carried out against coalition troops operating in Iraq. According to Raad, the messages included statements such as: 'Warning to Iranian militias. Any attacks on coalition forces will be met with a swift and decisive response,' and 'Iranian militias continue to endanger Iraqis… do not become puppets in Iran's hands.' He added that the texts were followed by voice calls repeating similar warnings. The term 'Iranian militias' commonly refers to Iraqi armed factions aligned with or backed by Iran, many of which are part of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF), an umbrella organization officially affiliated with the Iraqi state but composed of various groups with differing loyalties. Iraqi authorities have yet to issue any official response to the reported messages. These developments follow a wave of simultaneous drone attacks across multiple areas in Iraq — including Kirkuk, Baiji, Duhok, and al-Sulaymaniyah — as regional tensions intensified after a 12-day escalation between Iran and Israel. While no direct attacks were recorded on US military installations in Iraq during that period, US forces intercepted drones targeting the Ain al-Asad Air Base in al-Anbar Province. Despite their vocal support for Iran during the recent conflict, Iran-aligned Iraqi groups did not escalate their military posture significantly, maintaining a relatively restrained stance amid the regional standoff.
