The Butter Yellow Trend Explained
Getty Images
As the dark, bland palette of winter gives rise to pops of color and longer days, Spring design is in full bloom. A quarter into the year and it appears we're already resigned to let the Pantone color of the year—mocha mousse—melt away with the snow. In its place, another color named after a decadent food has taken center stage—butter yellow.

The delicate pastel yellow is everywhere right now, but it's been quietly ascending over the past year. Timothée Chalamet made a statement dressed head-to-toe in the buttery shade on this year's Oscars red carpet, while Sabrina Carpenter was spotted in butter yellow at New York's Governor's Ball and Variety's Power of Young Hollywood party last year. Sophie Turner and FKA Twigs have both graced the cover of British Vogue in butter yellow, and numerous other celebrities have been spotted wearing the shade, including Rihanna, Aubrey Plaza and Hailey Bieber. More recently, the color has appeared on the runways of high fashion houses, including Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Versace and Jil Sander.

Like melting butter, the shade's popularity is trickling down to mass fashion retailers, such as Gap and Abercrombie & Fitch, and into home design, with KitchenAid announcing butter yellow its 2025 'Color of the Year.' CB2 senior director of design and development, Andrea Erman says they've seen an uptick in sales of butter yellow textiles, such as their Seda silk curtains. Similarly, design studio Nivak Remas has seen a rise in butter yellow requests for a variety of settings. 'Whether through upholstery, accent décor, or painted finishes, butter yellow is being embraced as a way to add warmth without overwhelming a space,' says Nivak Remas co-founder Kevin Chan. 'We've also noticed its presence in spa and wellness environments, where it fosters relaxation and lightness.'

Its relaxing effect might explain why butter yellow is so popular at this particular moment. Personal stylist Dacy Gillespie admittedly doesn't love the color herself, but understands its appeal, 'It's a soft and soothing color, it's almost a baby color—like a nursery color—maybe that's what those of us in the United States are craving right now.' Nivek Remas co-founder Samer Shaath agrees, 'butter yellow embodies warmth, comfort, and nostalgia—qualities people are craving right now.' As we move away from the stark minimalism of the early aughts, the Shaath says butter yellow is a softer, more approachable take on yellow. Erman similarly highlights the shade's delicate duality, 'it brings a sense of optimism without being overwhelming, offering a unique balance of brightness and warmth. As people crave environments that feel uplifting yet comforting, butter yellow stands out as a perfect choice to help achieve that.'
'It subconsciously reminds us of sunlight, fresh blooms, and cozy kitchens—elements that make a space feel welcoming and serene," says Nivek Remas co-founder Samer Shaath.

Yellow's association with warmth and optimism make it a natural choice for Spring, but the pastel version offers a more gentle approach for easing out of hibernation into a more lively season. 'Unlike bolder yellows that energize, this softer shade has a grounding effect, fostering a sense of calm and happiness,' explains Shaath. 'It subconsciously reminds us of sunlight, fresh blooms, and cozy kitchens—elements that make a space feel welcoming and serene.' As our brains associate butter yellow with positivity and light, the shade can evoke relaxation and creativity too, according to CB2's Erman. It makes sense then, that we would gravitate to the color in our closet, after months spent blanketed in dark winter coats.
"It brings a sense of optimism without being overwhelming," says Andrea Erman, CB2 director of design and development.

The butter shade may appear a bold statement to some, but its surprisingly versatile both in fashion and design. 'Butter yellow is easy to style because it pairs well with both saturated colors and other lighter pastel colors,' says personal stylist Gillespie, who suggests wearing the shade with jeans. Erman agrees with the yellow-blue pairing, 'I find it works beautifully with blues and greens but for a stronger statement, pair it with bold rich red or deep neutrals to evoke some freshness.' The key to styling butter yellow, according to Chan is to be intentional about creating balance, given the color's flexibility. 'Butter yellow pairs beautifully with a variety of palettes—from soft neutrals and warm woods to deeper tones like navy or forest green.'
'For a subtle touch, start with textiles—throw pillows, drapes, or bedding in buttery tones,' suggests Kevin Chan, Nivek Remas co-founder.

Incorporating butter yellow into the home depends on your comfortability with the color—you can start small or go big. 'For a subtle touch, start with textiles—throw pillows, drapes, or bedding in buttery tones,' suggests Chan. Erman suggests beginning with an accent, 'A beautiful, upholstered sofa or chair in the trending color could add lovely warmth to a living room while a linen pillow or artwork add a different layer of brightness.' If you're feeling more bold, Chan recommends painting cabinetry or an accent wall butter yellow to introduce warmth without overpowering your space. 'The color also shines in unexpected places, like a front door or a vintage-inspired tile backsplash,' the Nivek Remas co-founder says.
"My advice would be to look at each trend and evaluate it objectively while keeping your personal style in mind," says personal stylist Dacy Gillespie.

Above all else, choose butter yellow only if it speaks to you. 'Everyone prefers different palettes and intensities of colors and you shouldn't wear a color just because it's on trend,' says Gillespie. 'My advice would be to look at each trend and evaluate it objectively while keeping your personal style in mind.' The personal stylist also recommends looking to buy second-hand when possible—Poshmark and eBay both offer a wide variety of styles in the shade. John Cena dresses up as 'Peacemaker' for new trailer debut, Season 2 peek
SAN DIEGO – John Cena is known to dress up for any occasion. (His 2024 Oscars birthday suit, anyone?) He digs wearing his Peacemaker uniform anywhere and everywhere he can, so of course he's going to show out, helmet and all, at Comic-Con. 'This is where we're supposed to do this,' Cena said on Saturday, July 26, during a Season 2 panel for his DC action-comedy series at the pop-culture festival. 'I had to borrow this again. This one is not mine. This is a rental.' From the Hall H stage, Cena quipped he was also game for a night out with all the folks in Peacemaker cosplay. 'There's not enough hot sauce in this city to contain us.' Join our Watch Party! Sign up to receive USA TODAY's movie and TV recommendations right in your inbox 'Peacemaker' (streaming Aug. 21 on HBO Max) continues to expand James Gunn's revamped DC universe, and in the filmmaker's first outing since 'Superman' became such a hit, Cena and the crowd gave Gunn a standing ovation. He also debuted the new 'Peacemaker' trailer, where Chris Smith (Cena) finds an inter-dimensional portal to a parallel Earth in his house and decides it's better there since Peacemaker's a hero rather than an outcast. Peacemaker 'is going through a rough patch in life and thinks the grass might be greener on the other side,' Cena said. 'That's something people can relate to.' Gunn, who calls 'Peacemaker' his 'favorite thing in the world,' said he likes when characters on TV shows 'just don't return the same every season. There's growth and there's regressions after Peacemaker's uncovered his demons in Season 1, and 'the world is not accepting him the way he is.' The first episode back of 'Peacemaker' takes place a month after the events of 'Superman' and also features cameos from Justice Gang members Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion) and Hawkgirl (Isabela Merced), plus their billionaire backer Maxwell Lord (Sean Gunn). 'But there's a lot more as we go down the line,' James Gunn said. 'We're definitely a part of the DCU now.' Frank Grillo reprises his 'Superman' supporting role as Rick Flag Sr., a major new antagonist in the series who seeks revenge on Peacemaker for killing his son. (See: 'The Suicide Squad.') As the new head of A.R.G.U.S. – a federal agency that deals with metahumans – Flag 'is now in a position to finally get his hands on Peacemaker,' Grillo said. Grillo is big on action roles, not as much with dancing. But he and the rest of the cast are a part of the new season's epic opening-credits musical number. That was a hit with fans the first time around, and Gunn promises a new song, personalities and moves. Jennifer Holland, who plays Emilia Harcourt, got to do the lift from 'Dirty Dancing' and 'it was amazing,' she said. 'When I showed up, people thought it'd be funny to plant my face on T-shirts from when I was on a soap opera,' Grillo grumbled. 'Dancing was something I very reluctantly did but turned into me being the best dancer on stage.' Gunn teased that Season 2 is more extreme than the first and is definitely not for kids – there's a very sexual situation in the first episode that made actor Steve Agee (who plays John Economos) think 'it's insane we're showing it on cable.' And Cena gave a shout-out to his new Peace cycle that he gets to ride. 'It's a lumbering piece of machinery,' Cena said. "It's got torpedoes, speakers and a cool paint job." One interesting tidbit that Cena revealed: Gunn 'hates' the 'You can't see me' jokes, a byproduct of Cena's long pro wrestling career. 'I love them. Nobody is next to James Gunn, it's just a floating helmet!' Cena said, holding his headwear beside Gunn as the director laughed. 'He's so frustrated.' Gunn gushed over his "Peacemaker" star. "For one of the most famous people in the world, he has no ego," the director said of Cena. "He gets very silly when he's on stage, but the truth is, John Cena turns in an amazing performance this season. I couldn't believe what he was capable of and how much he's grown as an actor in two years. It's really something to see."

Pro Wrestlers Who Took The Industry Mainstream And Fueled Its Rise

(Photo by: NBC via Getty Images) Professional wrestling has recently experienced a surge in popularity, mainly reflected in its profits. Although television viewership has declined, the wrestling industry today is financially thriving due to revenue streams such as media rights deals, sponsorships, and live events. This pertains mostly to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), which is considered the top brand in the industry. According to a recent report from TKO Group Holdings, WWE generated $391.5 million in total revenue in the first quarter of 2025, marking a 24 percent increase from 2024. Like most industries, success did not happen overnight. Since the 1940s, professional wrestling has grown in popularity, thanks to its creative characters, stellar performances, and broad appeal to a mainstream audience. While the industry has experienced peaks and valleys, several notable in-ring performers have elevated the sport. So, which in-ring performers have been instrumental to the growth of professional wrestling? Who are some of the most impactful professional wrestlers in history? The 'First Golden Age' in Professional Wrestling At the turn of the 20th century, wrestling matches were typically featured carnivals or fairs. Lou Thesz, who began his career in the 1930s, played a pioneering role in professional wrestling gaining notoriety. He invented several moves and held the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) title for a total of 13 years, even competing in matches internationally. The 'First Golden Age' in wrestling occurred roughly from the late 1940s through the 1960s. While Thesz continued to make important contributions, the most popular character during this time was Gorgeous George, a pompous and flamboyant persona who brought a theatrical element to the ring, along with mainstream appeal. Gorgeous George was an effective self-promoter, and his character was a major influence on boxer Muhammad Ali and musician James Brown, as noted in Little Village Magazine. (Photo by LMPC via Getty Images) During this era, the sport was also gaining popularity in Mexico and Japan. One of the most iconic international wrestlers of all time, El Santo, became a cultural hero in Mexico. He is widely considered the most popular luchador in history. His ring attire featured an iconic silver mask along with silver tights. What many do not realize is that El Santo may have been the most impactful wrestler on a national scale that the sport has ever seen based on his crossover appeal into mainstream culture. He was a larger-than-life figure and a symbol of justice for many Mexican people, starring in over 50 films and being featured in a comic book series that ran 35 years. As a testament to his cultural significance, his funeral was among the largest in Mexican history. Rikidōzan had similar impact in Japan. Though he was born in North Korea, Rikidōzan became a symbol of strength and resilience for Japanese people after World War II. He is credited with establishing professional wrestling in Japan. According to the Sportster, Rikidōzan's matches were so popular that they sparked a nationwide increase in the purchase of color televisions. His series of matches with Lou Thesz in the 1950s were instrumental in the growth of the sport. During the 1960s, Bruno Sammartino was arguably the most popular wrestler in the United States. Born in Italy, he became especially popular among Italian Americans, who strongly identified with him. Wrestling in front of sold out crowds, Sammartino helped make Madison Square Garden a premier wrestling venue. He held the WWE title for a total of 4,040 days across two separate title reigns—a record that still stands. (Photo by WWE/WWE via Getty Images) Between the mid-1970s and early 1980s, André the Giant was arguably the most popular professional wrestler in the world. At 7 feet 4 inches tall and weighing over 500 pounds, he was a physical specimen and his matches were a major attraction. André starred in the movie The Princess Bride, a cult classic. His WrestleMania III match against Hulk Hogan was a major reason why the sporting event broke indoor attendance records in the United States. Along with former WWE owner and promoter Vince McMahon, Hulk Hogan played a pivotal role in elevating professional wrestling into the mainstream. He was largely responsible for ushering in the 'Second Golden Age' of wrestling, which was arguably the most popular era in the sport's history, lasting from the mid-1980s to the early 1990s. 'Hulk-a-Mania' was a global phenomenon that centered around the values of the Hulk Hogan character: train hard, say your prayers, and eat your vitamins. He was stood for patriotic principles and wore his heart on his sleeve. With Hogan's ascent, the industry rose to epic proportions. His cameo in Rocky III gave wrestling mainstream attention, along with his cartoon called Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n' Wrestling, which was broadcast on Saturday mornings in the mid-1980s. WWE began cross-promoting with other industries, such as music (e.g. MTV), and featured pop culture stars like Cyndi Lauper and Mr. T in their programming. WWE's Attitude Era, WCW, and the Industry's Revival After a dip in popularity, the wrestling industry made a comeback in the late-1990s. One of the main catalysts was the NWO storyline in World Championship Wrestling (WCW), where Hulk Hogan demonstrated his versatility by reinventing himself as a heel (villain). At the time, WWE and WCW were involved in a bitter television ratings war, which elevated wrestling's popularity worldwide. Although WCW became popular and profitable, WWE's response was 'The Attitude Era,' an adult-themed and edgier brand of programming, which broke records for cable television ratings, pay-per-view buy rates, and revenue generation. The most impactful star during the Attitude Era was Stone Cold Steve Austin, who played a major role in WWE's record-breaking performance. Austin's peak popularity coincided with WWE's period of prosperity. His merchandise sales were off the charts, with his most popular T-shirt featuring the phrase 'Austin 3:16.' Boxing star and pop culture icon Mike Tyson's involvement with Austin in WrestleMania XIV helped turn the tide of the Monday Night War. WCW found mainstream success by featuring Dennis Rodman and Karl Malone in a tag-team match involving Hulk Hogan—remarkably, during the 1998 NBA Finals. (Photo by Buda Mendes/LatinContent via Getty Images) During WWE's Attitude Era, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson was another big reason for the industry's growth. Known for his wit and charisma, The Rock has become the most accomplished actor of all professional wrestlers, starring in movies such as The Scorpion King, Fast Five, and Jumanji. He is considered the wealthiest wrestler in history, with an estimated net worth of around $800 million, according to Sports Illustrated. WWE's PG Era and Where Wrestling Stands Now In the 2000s and 2010s, professional wrestling returned to family friendly programming. The next big star, John Cena, served as WWE's top ambassador during what is referred to as 'The PG Era." According to a tweet from ESPN's financial expert Michele Steele sent in January 2012, Cena generated over $100 million in revenue for WWE in 2011. His global impact further stems from his involvement with the Make-a-Wish Foundation where he has granted more than 650 wishes—a record for celebrities. He is also transitioning to a Hollywood career. NEW YORK, NY - AUGUST 21, 2015: John Cena standing with children from Make-A-Wish event celebrating ... (Photo by Laura Cavanaugh/WireImage) Many other wrestling stars have contributed to the industry's rise and mainstream appeal through creative style, in-ring work, or longevity. Sting and The Undertaker demonstrated amazing longevity, while Brock Lesnar and Ronda Rousey bridged MMA with the professional wrestling audience. Bret Hart expanded the sport's international appeal with his technical style, while Ric Flair's persona became popular among Hip-Hop artists. Regardless of the era, recognizing the craft's origins is important to understanding its evolution. Today's professional wrestlers are forging their own path, and achieving success doing it, but the pioneers who built the business should never be forgotten.

Nick Offerman does not want to ‘pick an argument' with Trump-supporter co-star Dennis Quaid
Actor Nick Offerman said last week he wasn't looking to have a political squabble with his 'Sovereign' co-star Dennis Quaid over President Donald Trump. 'Dennis Quaid is a fantastic actor whom I've looked up to my whole life, and he [is] better in this film than almost anything I've seen him in,' Offerman said in a response on Reddit to a commenter asking about how he deals with Trump supporters like Quaid. Offerman had made an 'ask me anything' post on the site inviting users to inquire about 'Sovereign,' his new film with Quaid about an anti-government extremist and his son, and an eventual police standoff. 'We didn't have a lot of time together on set, so the context wasn't really conducive to digging into settling the world's problems, or even just those of America. 'Good morning, Dennis. How about those Epstein files? Anyway, want to run our lines,'' Offerman added. The actor, famous for his role as Ron Swanson on 'Parks & Recreation,' said he believes those who voted for the 47th president are good people, even though he disagrees with them. 4 Nick Offerman at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 8, 2025. Andrew H. Walker/Shutterstock 4 Dennis Quaid attends the photocall at the 71st Taormina Film Festival on June 13, 2025 in Taormina, Italy. Getty Images 'Dealing with Trump supporters in the world is something I try to handle with nuance, because I know many others around the states who are very good people and citizens and would give you the shirt of their back,' Offerman said. 'They are on the receiving end of an absolute firehose of misinformation, so it's really cognitively dissonant (impossible) to engage in rational discourse.' He has said that his libertarian 'Parks and Recreation' character would have 'despised Trump,' and he thinks Republicans trend toward fascism. 4 Dennis Quaid spoke at one of Trump's rallies in California ahead of the 2024 election. 'I think we're all wrong about a lot of things, but the reason I lean left is because at the end of the Republican plan is austerity and literal fascism, sad military muscle parades and mounted troops in the LA, the coolest city in the world, and all the rest of the current bed-s—tings, and at the end of the Democrat plan is health care and life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness for everybody,' he said. 4 Sovereign movie starring Nick Offerman and Dennis Quaid. Briarcliff Entertainment Offerman added that he wanted to work with Quaid and leave politics out. 'No matter who we voted for, it requires all of us (including an overwhelming number of immigrants) to make the great bounty this country produces, and is then so disproportionately pocketed by the ultra-wealthy, so I am not going to pick an argument with Dennis Quaid over our political leanings because I'm going to shake his hand and try to make a great film,' Offerman said.
