
Bay Area woman accused of stealing 71 bottles of liquor from Safeway store
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesday the arrest of 53-year-old Karen Mackey of Oakland, following a traffic stop involving two deputies on Bollinger Road in Cupertino last month. Deputies said they found 71 bottles of stolen tequila in the trunk of her car, estimated to be worth more than $3,000.
Photos shared by the sheriff's office revealed that most of the bottles of liquor were tequila.
Dozens of bottles of allegedly stolen liquor that deputies said were found during a traffic stop in Cupertino in June 2025. The driver of the vehicle, identified as Karen Mackey of Oakland, was arrested in the case.

According to investigators, Mackey is allegedly connected to a series of retail thefts at Safeway stores in Santa Clara County. A records check also found she also had a $25,000 warrant for grand theft.
Mackey was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on the grand theft warrant and on suspicion of theft with prior convictions.
The liquor was returned to Safeway.

Fleeing man shot by Orange County deputies was holding gun, Sheriff Mina says
A man who fleeing Orange County sheriff's deputies while holding a gun early Saturday was shot and hospitalized in critical condition, according to Sheriff John Mina. At a press conference, Mina said the deputies were helping with a traffic stop near the intersection of Orlando Central Parkway and President's Drive around 1 a.m. when the man fled on foot. 'As our deputies ran after the man, they saw that he was holding a gun in his hand,' Mina said. 'The deputies caught up to the man who was still holding the gun, and our deputies discharged their service weapons striking the man.' The deputies gave the man first aid and he was transported to an area hospital where he was listed in critical condition. Mina said he had reviewed body-worn camera footage of the incident, and it will be released within 30 days. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement has taken over the investigation of the shooting. Meanwhile, the deputies involved have been placed on paid, administrative leave while FDLE reviews the case.

2 people shot at post-July 4 disturbance in City of Elmira: Police
Two people were shot in the City of Elmira during a large public disturbance in the early morning hours July 5, the Elmira Police Department said. Officers arrived in the area of Broadway Avenue and Mount Zoar Street shortly after 1 a.m. following a report of a large disturbance, with a crowd of over 100 people reportedly gathered in the streets. Officers were told a firearm was involved in the disturbance, and police found a group of people in the intersection tending to a man in the road, suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen. Other officers arriving at the scene observed a black truck leave the area at a high rate of speed, police said. Elmira officers followed the vehicle to the Arnot Ogden Medical Center, where they discovered that the male driver had also suffered a gunshot wound to his left thigh. According to the initial investigation, the man found on the ground at the scene was the intended target of the shooting, and the other man was a bystander struck by a stray bullet, police said. 1 dead, 2 injured in Jamaica, Queens stabbing
One man is dead and two others were hurt after multiple were stabbed in Queens. It happened just before 2 a.m. on 112th Street and Sutphin Avenue in Jamaica, police said. A 25-year-old man who was stabbed in the chest died at the hospital. A 24-year-old man was slashed in the abdomen, and another was stabbed in the ribs. They are both in stable condition. There's been no description of a suspect released, and the circumstances leading up to the stabbing were also not clear.
