Samling Group Achieves Major Gains In Eucalyptus Plantation Yields
This success was revealed during a technical briefing by the company to the Forest Department Sarawak (FDS) recently, where the hybrid plantations have demonstrated over 50 per cent higher Mean Annual Increment (MAI) when compared to traditional seed-derived plantations.
'Looking ahead, Samling targets the production of 1.7 to 2.4 million plantlets in 2025/2026, with plans to scale up laboratory capacity to produce eight million plantlets annually, and eventually up to 25 million plantlets per year,' FDS said in a statement today.

German army prepares to develop deep-strike drones, Handelsblatt reports
BERLIN (Reuters) -The German armed forces are preparing to develop long-range combat drones capable of striking targets deep in enemy territory, the Handelsblatt newspaper reported on Monday. Three consortia are working on concrete concepts after the Luftwaffe airforce sent a request for deep-strike drones to leading defence companies and startups, the report said. According to the report, Airbus Defence is contributing to the project alongside U.S. startup Kratos, while Germany's Rheinmetall has teamed up with drone specialist Anduril. Munich-based startup Helsing is also involved, the report said. The German defence ministry confirmed preparations for such a project to Handelsblatt, saying that initial talks had taken place but that no formal tender had been issued. Public urged to use Bas.My for subsidised bus service continuity
ALOR SETAR: The Ministry of Transport is urging the public to utilise the stage bus service to ensure its long-term sustainability. Introduced under the Stage Bus Service Transformation (SBST) programme, the service is being rolled out in phases this year with significant government funding. Transport Minister Anthony Loke stressed the need for strong ridership to justify continued financial support. 'To convince the Finance Ministry to keep funding this, I need data proving its benefits. If people don't use it despite affordable fares, securing future allocations will be tough,' he said after launching the Kota Setar service. The federal government has allocated RM78.5 million over five years for 13 SBST routes in Kedah. Since its phased launch on June 1, the Kota Setar service has seen around 30,000 monthly users, with projections reaching 40,000 by month-end. Loke explained that higher ridership reduces per-passenger costs, making the subsidy more efficient. 'The annual cost remains RM15.7 million regardless of passenger numbers. More users mean better value for the government's investment.' On safety concerns following a recent fatal accident involving a bus, Loke clarified that investigations are ongoing. He said essential building materials such as cement, aggregate (gravel) and sand remain zero-rated under the sales tax to help reduce the burden on developers and ensure the continuity of infrastructure projects. "Selected business-to-business (B2B) activities are subject to certain conditions. For instance, main contractors are subject to SST, but not to subcontractors earning below the threshold of RM1.5 million,' he said during an oral question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today. Ahmad was responding to a question from Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis) regarding the categories of construction projects exempted from SST, as well as the ministry's steps to ensure that existing projects are not affected by its implementation. In line with the government's commitment to implement SST fairly and effectively, he said, companies and contractors that carry out contracts that do not allow for review will be granted a one-year exemption, subject to terms and conditions.
