550 children from 25 countries unite in Rabat to launch global call for peace

Children from 25 countries gathered in Rabat on Friday to launch a multilingual Call for Peace, urging dialogue among nations, the rejection of hatred, and the promotion of tolerance and coexistence. The message was delivered in Arabic, English, French, and Spanish during a reception hosted by the House of Representatives as part of the 17th edition of the International Festival of Peace Children. «We, children of the world, have come from different continents, carrying a thousand wishes. We have packed our bags not to flee war, but to send a message to the world, a message from pure hearts whose only language is love and whose only weapon is childhood», they declared. «O world, enough of death, enough of fire that burns hearts before homes, enough of childhood buried under rubble, trapped and tormented by hunger and thirst. Hear us... hear the children of the world», the statement implored. The children expressed their hope to grow up in a world free of war, where songs of love and peace can be heard. They signed the message «from Morocco, land of coexistence and harmony», and launched it «from the podium of Parliament, the voice of the people and the echo of justice». Abderrahmane Rouijel, founding director of the festival, recalled that 550 children contributed to drafting this universal message, a symbol of their shared desire for a peaceful world. The event, he emphasized, seeks to instill values of love, tolerance, and openness to others. The children also marched in traditional attire from Al Barid Square to the Parliament building, where they posed for commemorative photos. Organized by the Bouregreg Association under the honorary presidency of Princess Lalla Meryem, and supported by local authorities and the Ministry of Culture, this year's edition promotes cultural exchange and fosters a culture of peace.

Nador's Lighthouse: Where Historical Charm Meets Contemporary Refinement

In the heart of the Marchica lagoon in Nador stands a building steeped in history, now an unmissable destination for lovers of unique places: the Marchica Lighthouse. Bearing witness to a bygone era, its walls tell the story of a territory in full transformation between maritime heritage and a promising tourist future. A sentinel of the Mediterranean Built at the beginning of the 20th century, during the period of Spanish influence in the region, the Marchica Lighthouse once guided sailors and fishermen through the lagoon and the nearby Mediterranean. With its sober, elegant white silhouette, it ensured the safety of navigators and over the decades became a familiar symbol for the people of Nador. Over time, as technology evolved, its utilitarian role faded, leaving the building abandoned to the winds and salt of the sea. The rebirth of an icon As part of the ambitious ecological and tourism development project to rehabilitate the Marchica lagoon, one of the most visionary undertakings in Morocco, the lighthouse was meticulously restored and incorporated into the Marchica Lagoon Resort. In 2019, it reopened in a new light, transformed into an exceptional rooftop bar and restaurant. Today, the Lighthouse is an elegant address where historical charm meets contemporary refinement. Its panoramic terrace offers breathtaking views of the lagoon, the mountains, and the sea especially at sunset, when the spectacle is nothing short of sublime. A gastronomic and sensory experience Now, the Lighthouse offers a culinary experience that pays tribute to its Mediterranean roots. In a soft, intimate setting, guests enjoy tapas inspired by Spanish tradition Galician-style octopus, golden croquettes, marinated vegetables accompanied by a carefully curated selection of wines and cocktails. Subtle, elegant music completes the atmosphere, creating a suspended moment between sky and sea. A symbol of the future More than just a restaurant, the Marchica Lighthouse has become a symbol of the successful transformation of a region. It embodies the ability to preserve and enhance heritage while giving it a new purpose, in the service of sustainable, high-end tourism. For hospitality and restaurant professionals, the Lighthouse provides a valuable inspiration: to build on history, to blend authenticity with modernity, and to make every detail an emotion. Today, the Marchica Lighthouse in Nador is far more than an old maritime sentinel. It is a living witness to a region looking toward the future, a place where one comes to savor the beauty of the present and the richness of the past.

Maryam Touzani's Calle Malaga debuts at Venice and Toronto film festivals

Moroccan filmmaker Maryam Touzani's latest feature, Calle Malaga, has been selected for two of the world's leading film festivals: Venice, where it will screen in the Spotlight section, and Toronto, where it will appear as part of the Special Presentations lineup. The film stars legendary Spanish actress Carmen Maura and is set for international theatrical release in March 2026. Shot in Morocco and performed entirely in Spanish, Calle Malaga will make its world debut on the festival circuit this fall. The story follows Maria Angeles (Maura), a 79-year-old Spanish woman living alone in Tangier. Her quiet life is disrupted when her daughter, Clara (played by Marta Etura), travels to Madrid to sell the apartment Maria once called home. Determined not to let go of her past, Maria sets off on a deeply personal journey to reclaim her belongings and, along the way, rediscovers love and longing in the final chapter of her life. The film explores themes of memory, attachment to place, and the right to love in old age. «With the subtlety and emotional depth that have made her a towering figure in Spanish cinema, Carmen Maura brings Maria to life with moving humanity, balancing fragility and strength in a richly layered performance», a press release notes. Touzani's selection at both Venice and Toronto underscores her growing international profile. Her previous films, Adam (Cannes 2019 – Un Certain Regard) and The Blue Caftan (Cannes 2022 – Un Certain Regard), received wide acclaim. The latter became the most internationally successful Moroccan film to date, earning a spot on the Oscars shortlist for Best International Feature and collecting over 60 awards, including the FIPRESCI Prize at Cannes.
