'We're very, very pleasantly surprised for the first year,' Lewis said in a recent phone call. 'It's as grass roots as it gets.'

Plenty of the participating shop owners have told her that the creation of a Vintage Store Day feels 'overdue,' she said.

'It's all high-quality and niche,' MacIver said.
She maintains a wide range of price points. Some of her rarer inventory, going back to the 1960s and '70s, is priced for collectors, she said, 'but I also recognize that my demographic is college students. I'm 10 minutes from BU. I remember being in college, when I did not have $80 to spend on a T-shirt.'
At her own store in Chicago, Lewis sells vintage apparel, home goods, and jewelry. But she specializes in antique art prints.
'For me, it's about historic preservation,' she said. 'I'm keeping these pieces alive, and out of the landfill.'
For many vintage shop owners, sustainability has become a key by-product of their business. Consumers are more attuned than ever, they say, to the drawbacks of the 'fast fashion' industry and big-box retail, including environmental damage and the exploitation of underpaid workers.

At Nest in Portsmouth, Ardito gets excited when a shopper buys a functional piece of home decor from her rather than spending at Target or Walmart.
'Instead of going to a big-box store looking for a plant stand, they buy something from me that has oodles of character and patina,' she said. 'I love bringing a piece of furniture back from the brink, refurbishing it, and it becomes somebody else's new heirloom.'
She abides by a favorite quote from William Morris, the 19th-century architect and designer associated with the Victorian-era Arts and Crafts Movement in England: 'Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful.'
Ardito also has a motto she came up with on her own.
'We're saving the planet, and being badass doing it,' she said with a laugh.

The Mancunian Way: Going underground

Andy Burnham says he is 'deadly serious' about taking Greater Manchester's transport system subterranean. He wants to run trains and trams under Manchester city centre. The mayor's rather surprising announcement came at the end of an event to launch the new, 10-year Greater Manchester Strategy. And Mr Burnham said the underground policy was what he was most excited about. READ MORE: Dean Barnes trial: Burglary victim cleared of causing death by dangerous driving as thief who rode stolen bike convicted READ MORE: Mum murdered by ex dumped outside as his sisters tried to help cover up brutal killing He wants it to start with a new, underground Piccadilly station. 'We will need infrastructure on a bigger scale to cope,' he told Ethan Davies. It's not exactly a new idea. A 'Picc-Vic' subterranean tunnel was planned in the 1970s, before it was cancelled. No timelines for the underground system have been offered but Mr Burnham wants 'detailed' costed plans by 2030. Watch this space. While waxing lyrical last night, Mr Burnham said the next decade will be the best 'since the Victorian period'. Part of that is down to a new plan to run five new 'mayoral development corporations' (MDCs) - aimed at slashing red tape and speeding up development. In the town of Middleton, comedian Steve Coogan will be leading the charge. New homes and businesses, improved roads and a Metrolink stop could all be part of the regeneration. And Mr Coogan, who hails from Alkrington, says it's an 'exciting opportunity' for him to give back to a town that helped him in his early years. 'I feel I owe the people of Middleton a debt. That's why I'm happy to be involved and talk to people in Middleton and ask them what they want and what they need. 'You can't change the world, but you can change the things in your locality if you get involved. So I'm getting involved.' You can read more about the plans here. Demolition work has started at the Hotspur Press building after it was gutted during a devastating fire. A huge blaze erupted at the building - one of the city's oldest surviving cotton mills, which was later repurposed as a printing press - on the evening of June 23. More than 100 people were evacuated from nearby blocks of flats, while trains were stopped on the line near Oxford Road station. Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed it would have to be partially demolished. Specialist workers are currently on site and carrying out preparation work. Chris Slater has more detail here. Greater Manchester could see four major hospital rebuilds and new developments amid changes to frustrating rules that stopped the region from transforming crumbling buildings. After a years-long mission to get the funding, and a Manchester Evening News campaign, up to £1.5bn was finally approved by the government for the overhaul of the Victorian-era North Manchester General Hospital. But NHS capital spending rules have prevented three other major hospital building projects in Greater Manchester. Changes to those rules could break logjams for Stepping Hill Hospital, wythenshawe-hospital>Wythenshawe Hospital, and The Christie Hospital, says the region's NHS chief. Last night he took to the Castlefield Bowl stage in front of thousands as a support act for The Black Keys. The 18-year-old started busking at the age of 12 and has made a name for himself releasing three EPs and showcasing tracks via BBC Introducing. 'If I never went out busking I'd never be here where I am now,' he told Adam Maidment. 'The best thing about busking is that you never know who is watching.' Read more about Alex here. Blossoming: Castlefield Viaduct will double in size after securing £2.75m of funding, the National Trust has announced. The 'sky park' was opened to the public in 2022, initially opening for a year-long trial but it proved such a hit that the National Trust kept it open. Details here. It was a place of outlandish pranks, love affairs, legendary drunken parties and the first home many people ever had in the city. Sadly, all that remains are photographs and memories that generations of former students will never forget. Now reduced to rubble, Owens Park Tower was once the gold standard in student digs. Are RAYE and Lewis Hamilton Dating in 2025?

While RAYE and Lewis Hamilton have been friendly for a minute, the internet is currently spiraling at the mere thought of them potentially being a couple. While neither star has confirmed the nature of their relationship, romance rumors started swirling after their recent public appearances at the F1 movie premiere and Silverstone's F1 British Grand Prix on July 4. ICYMI, the 'Oscar Winning Tears' singer (real name Rachel Keen) performed a set at Silverstone, where Lewis was in attendance. A source told the Daily Mail, 'I saw Lewis at the side of the stage last night and he was loving RAYE. I was shocked to see him there with qualifying coming up. But he stayed for the whole set and really showed his support to her.' Per the source, Lewis even went up on stage and shared a few words. 'Today, the British crowd went crazy when Lewis came out,' they added. 'And when he bought up RAYE, there were loads of cheers.' Another insider shared, 'He literally didn't leave the side of the stage the entire time, and he was in RAYE's personal side and was loving it. I was very shocked how long he stayed. He was clearly trying to show he's committed.' Earlier that day, RAYE was spotted in the Ferrari garage as Lewis practiced ahead of the F1 Grand Prix. This isn't the first time the pair have been in each other's orbits. They grabbed lunch in New York with another one of Lewis's rumored flings, Sofía Vergara, back in January, and they also hung out at the Met Gala in 2024, per this candid snapshot: And this isn't RAYE's first time at Silverstone, either. The singer pulled up to the F1 British Grand Prix to support Lewis two years ago in July 2023, per some sneaky pics. Oh, and a few months before that in April 2023, RAYE posted a photo dump, which included a snap of her and Lewis hugging. Hi, cute. Most recently in March 2025, RAYE was spotted in the Ferrari garage during the Australian Grand Prix Free Practice, which Neither RAYE nor Lewis has confirmed whether or not they're dating (or how they even met!), but fans seem into the potential pairing either way.

Colorado QB JuJu Lewis Turns Heads After Polarizing Shedeur Sanders Imitation

Colorado QB JuJu Lewis Turns Heads After Polarizing Shedeur Sanders Imitation originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There have been a lot of captivating storylines in the world of college football over the past few years, but few have garnered as much attention as what's taken place in Boulder with Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders, and the Colorado Buffaloes. Advertisement While Shedeur is now off to the NFL with the Cleveland Browns, his legacy appears to be living on in Boulder with the Buffs' newest QB star, true freshman Julian 'JuJu' Lewis. As a former 4-star player who was ranked as the No. 6 QB in the 2025 recruiting class, Lewis comes to Boulder with high expectations and a bright future. He will have to compete with Liberty Flames transfer Kaidon Salter in 2025, but that isn't stopping him from acting the part of starter, and star, from the jump. At the second day of Big 12 Media Days, Lewis pulled out a trick from Shedeur's book, pulling out a fancy watch and posing for the classic "Shedeur Flex" pose in front of the camera. Advertisement This polarizing celebration was a big one for Sanders, who often help up his wrist in big moments over the last two seasons, whether it was after scoring or after a couple of big wins that the Buffaloes got throughout the year. Of course, not everyone loved it, as many fans thought it was too brash, with Sanders "flexing" his money rather than celebrating with his teammates, but it is a celebration that has obviously lived on, and now might have new life with the Buffaloes for years to come if Lewis keeps it up. How much Lewis, or anyone else on the team get to use that "flex" in 2025 will be interesting to see. After losing the likes of Sanders and Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter, it could be a down year for the Buffaloes, who are rated by ESPN's Football Power Index as the No. 11 team in the Big 12 with a projected record of 6.5-5.5. Should they end up struggling that much, we may see Lewis on the field a bit as Colorado looks to build for the future. If that ends up the case, we may see the flexing live on in Boulder for the 2025 season and beyond.
