French FM: Paris raises Leader Barzani's role in peace
Barrot, accompanied by French Ambassador to Iraq Patrick Durel and French Consul in Erbil Yann Braem, discussed regional developments with Barzani during a meeting in the Salahuddin resort near Erbil, focusing on bilateral ties, political dynamics in the Kurdistan Region, and relations between Erbil and Baghdad.
The talks also touched on Iraq's upcoming parliamentary elections and the situation in Syria, where both sides emphasized the need for dialogue and reconciliation among Kurdish groups.
Meanwhile, Barzani stressed the importance of continued efforts toward a peaceful resolution to the Kurdish issue in Turkiye and reiterated the Kurdistan Region's support for initiatives that promote peace, before accepting Barrot's invitation to visit Paris and attend a ceremony honouring the sacrifices of the Kurdish Peshmerga in the fight against terrorism.

Petroleum graduates stage second protest in Basra over oil jobs
Shafaq News – Basra Unemployed petroleum and engineering graduates staged a second protest in Basra on Sunday, demanding jobs in the oil sector. Dozens rallied outside the Basra Oil Company headquarters, accusing the government of ignoring their repeated appeals. 'Rights are taken, not handed out,' protest representative Hassan al-Shawi told Shafaq News. 'After more than five months of sit-ins with no results, we're escalating through peaceful, sustained demonstrations,' he added. 'Remaining silent in the face of injustice is no longer an option.' Al-Shawi explained that most demonstrators hold degrees in petroleum engineering, geology, or related fields and are seeking daily-wage positions at operational oil companies or contract jobs under the Oil Ministry's Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) project. 'These demands are legitimate and backed by a letter from Prime Minister [Mohammed Shia al-Sudani's] Office,' he noted, stressing that the proposed jobs are exempt from the federal budget law's hiring restrictions. He also rebuked Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani—himself a Basra native—for not intervening despite his familiarity with the graduates' situation. Earlier today, another group of graduates blocked access to the al-Barjisiya oil zone, demanding permanent employment under Resolution 315 and exemption from recent hiring freezes. Protests near Basra's oil fields have grown more frequent, driven by surging unemployment among local graduates and mounting frustration over limited access to jobs, inadequate services, and lack of inclusion in both public and private energy firms operating in the province.

Kurdistan marks 1958 revolution with public holiday
Shafaq News - Erbil The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) declared Monday, July 14, an official holiday across all public institutions to mark the anniversary of the 1958 revolution. A statement from the Department of Media and Information confirmed the closure, in line with the Region's official calendar. Government offices will reopen on Tuesday. The July 14 revolution, led by Brigadier General Abdul Karim Qasim and the Free Officers Movement, overthrew the Hashemite monarchy, abolishing the Kingdom of Iraq. The coup resulted in the deaths of King Faisal II, members of the royal family, and Prime Minister Nuri al-Said. The revolution introduced a republican system and brought several reforms, including land redistribution and the nationalization of key foreign-owned assets. Iraq also withdrew from the Western-backed Baghdad Pact, marking a shift in the country's foreign policy and alignment during the Cold War.
