How To Make Blush Survive The Summer Heat

Vogue21-06-2025
With the Guava Girl aesthetic and Cherry Blossom cheeks dominating this summer's beauty trends, it's only fitting that blush is the product of the moment. There really is no better way to add a vibrant, healthy glow.
'We're all looking to look our best, and blush instantly achieves that,' agrees says makeup artist Yael Maquieira. 'It brings freshness, brightness, and a radiance that instantly transforms the face.' But the best way to use blush this summer isn't just to swipe on some flat powder and be done. Instead, Maquieira recommends using a 'blush combo that plays with tones and textures' and stays put even in sweltering heat.
What is a blush combo?
It may seem like a new concept, but the 'blush combo' is a technique that professionals have actually been using for years. 'It consists of first applying a cream blush and then a powder blush to set the color,' explains Maquieira.
Not only does a blush combo provide dimension, but it also keeps your color looking fresher longer. 'Cream blush adds juiciness and a radiant effect—but it doesn't always last as long as we'd like,' Maquieira says. 'Powder sets and prolongs the color, allowing the effect to last longer and feel fresher, more natural, and flattering.
How to apply a blush combo
A long-lasting blush combo is easy to apply, just be sure to keep the following in mind: 'Blend each layer well and apply a small amount at a time, building the color little by little,' says Maquieira. Below, the expert provides more tips for getting it right:
Moisturize the skin well . 'Without good hydration, the product does not blend well and will not last,' Maquieira says.
. 'Without good hydration, the product does not blend well and will not last,' Maquieira says. Apply cream blush first . 'I usually apply it by picking up a little with my finger, then tapping it onto the back of my hand. From there, I dab it on with a brush, so as not to drag the foundation,' Maquieira says.
. 'I usually apply it by picking up a little with my finger, then tapping it onto the back of my hand. From there, I dab it on with a brush, so as not to drag the foundation,' Maquieira says. Seal with powder blush. 'Use one side of a brush to apply, then blend with the other, clean side to avoid applying too much,' Maquieira advises. 'It allows you to better control the amount and the finish—and it's also more natural.'
Which blush colors look best together?
There's no limit to the hues you can combine, from pinkish to peachy to beige or brown. 'I love to combine different shades, one in cream and one in powder that match well,' says Maquieira. 'I always recommend playing with color depending on the day or the look. This way, you get a look that's more personalized and vibrant.'

Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa's Show 'The Flipping El Moussas' Is Cancelled Amid HGTV Purge: Source

NEED TO KNOW A source has confirmed to PEOPLE that Tarek and Heather Rae El Moussa's HGTV show, The Flipping El Moussas, has not been renewed The news comes amid a number of shocking cancellations from the network, including Christina Haack's home renovation show, Christina on the Coast Both Tarek and Heather have yet to publicly address the newsTarek and Heather Rae El Moussa's show The Flipping El Moussas is not returning to HGTV, a source confirms to PEOPLE. The house flipping show starring the married couple is officially ending after two seasons, amid a slew of shocking cancellations from HGTV. Christina Haack's HGTV show, Christina on the Coast, is also among the many shows that were slashed, a source confirmed to PEOPLE on July 15. Premiering in March 2023, The Flipping El Moussas followed Tarek and Heather as they navigated the highs and lows of house flipping in Southern California. In season one, viewers also got to see an inside look at their personal lives as they prepared for the arrival of their son Tristan, now 2. Season 2 saw the real estate duo tackle even tougher projects while also juggling life as a family of five. (Tarek shares two older children — daughter Taylor, 14, and son Brayden, 9 — with ex-wife Haack.) While both The Flipping El Moussas and Christina on the Coast have been canceled, a source tells PEOPLE that the trio's other hit show, The Flip Off, has been picked up for a second season but hasn't started filming yet. All three stars have yet to publicly address the news, however a number of HGTV hosts have spoken out about the network's recent programming purge. Bargain Block, Farmhouse Fixer, Married to Real Estate, Battle on the Beach and Izzy Does It have also been canceled, sparking outrage from fans. Before The Flipping El Moussas, Tarek starred in Flip or Flop from 2013 to 2022 alongside his then-wife Haack. The exes split in 2016 after seven years of marriage, and currently maintain an amicable co-parenting relationship. Tarek has also hosted a solo house flipping series, Flipping 101, which debuted its fourth season in April. It is currently unclear whether this project is being picked up for another season. Meanwhile, The Flipping El Moussas marked Heather's HGTV debut after she previously starred in Netflix's real estate docudrama, Selling Sunset. She officially left the series in season 8 after revealing she was 'not called back' to film in the middle of season 7 following her maternity leave. During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE in 2023, Heather opened up about being excited to leave Selling Sunset behind her and start a new chapter with The Flipping El Moussas. "I love being able to prioritize my family and my happiness and step away from some of the drama that Selling Sunset brought into my life," she said at the time. "But I can just film with my husband now, drama-free," she continued. "I mean, the drama's in the houses, it's not with the people. And that is so incredible that I don't have to worry about fighting with a girl if I go to work." Never miss a story — sign up for to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from juicy celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. Of working on The Flipping El Moussas, she admitted that while "It's a lot of work," she enjoyed tackling each challenging project with her husband. "I love flipping houses. It's very rewarding, it's very exciting, and I love being able to take a nasty, beat-up disgusting house and transform it into something beautiful." Read the original article on People

Alabama football lineman claims 'team grill master' status

Leave it to an interior lineman to make the claim as Alabama football's best griller. After all, who better than a 315-pound defensive tackle like Tim Keenan to be smoking proteins in large quantities? The Birmingham native admits to an ongoing learning curve when it comes to brisket − the trickiest, most temperamental of all smoked meats − but Keenan will put his barbecue game up against anyone else on the roster. "I'm the grill master, now. I can throw some chicken on there for you, smoked Rotel, good burgers, ribs," Keenan said Wednesday at SEC Media Days. "But I'm working on the brisket." VIDEO: Alabama football's Tim Keenan III talks about confidence in Kalen DeBoer at SEC media days TALKING SEASON: Alabama football LB Lawson on FSU QB's brash remarks: 'All disrespect will be addressed' Keenan enters his final season at the college level with high expectations as a returning starter in what should be one of the SEC's top defenses. Asked about the Alabama brand as it relates to coach Kalen DeBoer's recent stretch of recruiting success, Keenan tied in grill skills with his answer. "On these (official visits), you've got players who want to host these recruits. We even grilled out at my house. It's always good for the recruits to see us in (that) way," he said. From there, he rattled off his specialties; properly smoked Rotel can make for a fine dip, although Keenan likes to stick primarily with proteins. He's about to invest in a pellet grill, he said, with hopes that he can dial in brisket perfection with it. That's a lofty goal, but not one he needs to reach to be confident around the food fire. "Either way," he said. "We're going to have some good eats." Tuscaloosa News columnist Chase Goodbread is also the weekly co-host of Crimson Cover TV on WVUA-23.
