Man shot through eye and buried alive survived attempted murder by ‘contract crew', NSW police allege

Homicide squad detectives investigating the murder of Rich 'Dylan' Choup are appealing for information from the public regarding two other violent incidents they believe could be linked.
Strike Force Hallet was established to investigate a 'contract crew' allegedly responsible for the death of Choup in July 2024; the separate kidnapping and torture of a man in Canley Vale; and the attempted murder of another man in Queensland.
Homicide squad Det Supt Joseph Doueihi alleged on Monday that 'all three offences occurred within a six-day period between 19 July and 25 July'.
'We will allege that this syndicate that's responsible for these three offences are linked to a Victorian drug trafficking syndicate,' he said.
New South Wales police allege that on 19 July 2024, a 31-year-old man was kidnapped from the Auburn and Regents Park area and taken to a location in Canley Vale where he was tortured and had part of his ear cut off. 'Later that day, he was released,' Doueihi said.
Detectives searched a Canley Vale property – where the man was believed to have been held – on 10 October 2024 and allegedly found a box cutter.
'We will allege that was the box cutter that was used to sever part of that man's ear,' Doueihi said on Monday.
Detectives released an image of the box cutter as well as CCTV of two vehicles travelling in convoy at the intersection of Freeman Avenue and Sackville Street in Canley Vale around the time of the incident.
The vehicles were described as a dark-coloured Audi SQ2 and a white Volkswagen Golf.
'The relevance of the Audi is that it was also [allegedly] later used in the suspicious disappearance of Mr Choup,' Doueihi said.
Doueihi said on 21 July last year, a 23-year-old man from NSW was lured to Queensland by a group of males 'not knowing what their ulterior motive was'.
'The male was shot in the head through the eye with the bullet lodged in his brain [and] he was buried in a shallow grave,' the detective said.
Doueihi said that unbeknownst to the offenders, who believed the man was dead, the 23-year-old crawled out of the grave and made his way to a nearby service station in Jimboomba.
'Covered in dirt … the man asked staff not to call emergency services [but] he collapsed shortly after, prompting them to seek help. He was taken to hospital,' NSW police said in a statement on Monday.
Police released CCTV of a white Hyundai Getz seen at a roadhouse in Nambucca on the mid-north coast on Saturday 20 July 2024 – the day before the alleged attempted murder.

Doueihi said 'incident three', the primary investigation of Strike Force Hallet, was the alleged murder of Choup. On the afternoon of 31 August 2024, officers were called to bushland off Heathcote Road at Lucas Heights after trail bike riders discovered human remains.
The remains were later confirmed to be those of 32-year-old Choup, who was reported missing to police on 29 July.
A post-mortem confirmed Choup had been fatally shot and that the top of his right ear had been severed.
'We believe that it's very highly likely related to something that's gone wrong within that drug trafficking syndicate from Melbourne,' Doueihi said.
'We believe that Mr Choup was an employee of that syndicate and has fallen foul of that syndicate for some reason – we don't have the exact details'.
Choup was last seen on 25 July in Cabramatta when he told friends he had a meeting.
CCTV captured Choup meeting with a man on Railway Parade who appeared to reprimand and slap him, the detective said on Monday. Both men were then seen walking towards a grey Audi SQ2.
Anyone with information about the CCTV, the men in it or the vehicles was urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

EXCLUSIVE 'Killer' teen Sarah Grace Patrick's funeral selfies and fake tears resurface as she's charged with double murder

The 17-year-old girl accused of gunning down her mother and stepfather had curated a chilling portrait of grief on social media for months after the brutal killings, Daily Mail can reveal. To the public, Sarah Grace Patrick appeared to be a teenager shattered by tragedy after her mom Kristin, 41, and stepdad James Brock, 47, were mysteriously found shot dead in their Georgia home in February. The high school student posted tributes, tearful selfies, and even pleas for justice – but never hinting that she might be the one behind the murders. But her haunting digital trail was being viewed through an entirely different lens and on Tuesday she was arrested and charged with the double murders. Police say Kristin and James were both shot dead as they slept in their home in Carrollton, 45 miles west of Atlanta on February 20. Patrick, who was 16 at the time, was inside the house during the killings and called 911 after her then-five-year-old half-sister Jaley discovered the lifeless bodies. There were no immediate suspects or leads, and the couple's death at first seemed like a mysterious tragedy that had left two young girls without a family. For months, Patrick played the grieving daughter who was coping with an unimaginable loss, delivering a tearful eulogy at the funeral and sharing heartbreaking TikTok videos about her slain parents. One TikTok from March shows a slideshow of images of her mother and stepfather, set to emotional music and accompanied by the text: 'They don't know it, but a year from now me and my 5-year-old sister would find them wrongfully shot dead in our home – and they won't get to watch me graduate high school, see me walk down the aisle, or even say goodbye.' In the caption, she wrote: 'I miss you guys, save a seat for me in heaven.' She continued to share numerous videos about her grief, employing various trending TikTok formats for emotional effect. In one, she appears distraught with mascara streaked down her cheeks. The overlay reads: 'Life's hard but at least I have my mom.' The video later cuts to a final slide showing two urns and a framed photograph of Kristin and James Brock, with text overlay: 'Mom?' Patrick also portrayed herself as heartbroken over her little sister's trauma from finding her parents' bullet-riddled bodies. In one post, she wrote: 'I can't help but hate myself because I didn't wake up to find them before my 5yo sister had to find her parents like that'. Another read: 'It hits me when I see my 5-year-old sister screaming for her mommy and daddy.' Several of her videos took the form of emotional tributes praising her mother. 'I don't know if she ever realized… that the person I most wanted to be was her,' she wrote in one post with additional slides describing her mom as 'so kind and so loving.' But perhaps most unsettling are the posts containing selfies of Patrick appearing distraught and in tears over her mom's death. She shared a photo clutching her mother's clothes, seemingly crying into them, with the text: 'Her T-shirt [heart emoji].' She shared one selfie of her sobbing in bed captioned: 'I just want my momma,' and another of herself in anguish, reading: 'wdym [what do you mean] I can't call my mom?' In one haunting image, she appears to be choking back tears en route to the funeral, writing: 'This can't be real. Otw (on the way) to my parents' funeral.' Since Patrick's arrest, true crime communities on social media have erupted, dissecting her content and questioning what could have possibly driven an angel-faced teen to allegedly murder her parents. The story took an even stranger turn when a popular true crime content creator who posts under @Allegedly Reportedly and has over 120,000 followers, revealed that Patrick had reached out to her weeks before her arrest, asking for help getting coverage of the case. The TikTokker shared screenshots of their exchange which showed Patrick had sent her a private message on the platform on June 3, telling her to 'search up Brock case.' 'They're my parents, and out of nowhere a random Thursday night in Feb someone came into my house with me and my 5-year-old sister and shot my parents brutally - leaving them for me and my little sister to wake up to,' Patrick wrote. 'I am in absolute shock right now,' the TikTokker wrote in a caption of the video on Wednesday. 'An arrest has been made in the case of James and Kristin Brock, whose lives were taken in February – the person arrested is their daughter, who previously asked me to cover their case?!' In addition to posting videos of her grief online, Patrick apparently also worked behind the scenes to spread her story, issuing statements on her father's Facebook account and asking friends to share details of the incident on her behalf. Last month, weeks before Patrick's arrest, family friend Kellie Brown took to TikTok to share that the teen reached out to her on June 22 asking her to share information about what happened that night with the public. 'Sarah has confirmed that she was awake the night of the incident and "heard nothing out of the normal". Those are her words,' Brown said in a June 24 video. Popular true crime content creator known as 'Allegedly Reportedly' this week revealed that Patrick had reached out to her weeks before her arrest, asking for help getting coverage of the case She added that Patrick said she had only heard her the alarm from her stepfather's heart machine - which would've been triggered by his death – 'going off throughout the night.' Patrick's original account has since been deactivated, but the disturbing videos have resurfaced and gone viral after social media sleuths re-uploaded her content following the shocking news. The videos are now flooded with comments questioning whether her posts were a manifestation of guilt or a calculated attempt to win sympathy. 'I wonder if she actually started to regret it or if it was all just a cover up,' one user wrote.' 'She wanted attention and sympathy for it!!!' another speculated. Patrick is being charged as an adult on two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault after turning herself in to police on Tuesday accompanied by her father Doniel Patrick. Authorities have not yet revealed a motive for the killings and say the investigation is ongoing and further arrests could be made. Investigators from Carroll County Sheriff's Office have cited 'mountains of digital and physical evidence' that led to her arrest – including Patrick's emotional eulogy. Video of her tribute at her mom and stepfather's funeral service was published by the Daily Mail after relatives of the victims shared the footage in disgust after her arrest. Patrick, dressed in a demure, pale blue mini dress, can be seen taking to the lectern during the March 8 afternoon service at the Catalyst church in Carrollton, where the Brocks were very active members. She paid glowing tributes to her mother and stepfather, thanking Brock 'for all the life lessons you taught me', and praising her mom as a 'beautiful kind soul with so much gratitude'. She thanked her family, including her grandparents, a long list of siblings, and others for 'helping me get through my worst nightmare' and 'making such a big difference'. Concluding her eulogy, she said: 'Jamey and all would thank you too. I love you guys and so did they, I'm sorry.' During a press conference about her arrest this week, Carroll County communications director Ashley Hulsey confirmed her tribute at the funeral was a key piece of evidence. Speaking to News Nation, Hulsey admitted the eulogy 'seemed odd' and noted that Patrick had ended her speech saying 'I'm sorry.' 'Was that, "I'm sorry because I may have done this" or is it, "I'm sorry because I was upset during this eulogy"? We may never know the answer to that, but that did stand out to me at the time,' she said. Hulsey also confirmed investigators are aware of the teen's social media posts. Sharing footage of the funeral remarks, James Brock's niece Krysten Dowda told Daily Mail that she immediately became suspicious of Patrick 'after the shock wore off', adding: 'The pieces just weren't making sense.' 'After their funeral, when I saw someone had recorded this, I immediately saved it because I knew one day everyone would get to see this for what it was,' she said. 'The feeling of being at a funeral to say goodbye to someone you loved and thinking to yourself, am I actually witnessing the person that murdered them, standing up here in front of everyone and fake crying about them? 'Does anyone else see this person doing a crying voice but never shed a single tear?'

Two including teenage boy arrested on suspicion of murder after man dies

Two people, including a 17-year-old boy, have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man died following a reported argument. Officers were called to a report of an altercation at Belle Vue Terrace in Malvern, Worcestershire, at around 12.45am on Saturday, West Mercia Police said. A 52-year-old man was found at the scene unconscious on the floor and taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital, but was pronounced dead. A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder while the teenage boy was arrested on suspicion of the same offence and assault, the force said. Both suspects remain in custody. Detective chief inspector Lee Holehouse said: 'Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly lost his life. 'This incident will no doubt concern the local community, and we can say that this is an isolated incident, and we have arrested two people who remain in our custody. 'Officers will remain at the scene, and you will see an increased police presence over the next few days as our investigation continues.' Mr Holehouse appealed to anyone with any information on the incident, including phone footage, dashcam, doorbell or CCTV from around the time.
