However, MI didn't get the start they were hoping for, as DC pacer Mustafizur Rahman dismissed Rohit Sharma for just 5 off 5 balls, silencing the Wankhede crowd — especially on a day when MI was handing out special 'Hitman' jerseys and masks.
Fans unhappy with Rohit Sharma's shot
Soon after the batter hit that shot and wicketkeeper

Vaibhav Suryavanshi Falls For Golden Duck In Youth Test As India U-19 Face Stiff 355-Run Chase
In a stunning twist during the high-stakes Youth Test between India U-19 and England U-19, the prodigious Vaibhav Suryavanshi faced an unexpected low, getting dismissed for a golden duck. However, his captain Ayush Mhatre rose to the occasion with an electrifying counterattack, keeping India's improbable chase of 355 alive on the final day. Golden Duck for Vaibhav Suryavanshi vs ENG U19 — Varun Giri (@Varungiri0) July 23, 2025 The 14-year-old batting prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who had lit up IPL 2025 with his fearless strokeplay for Rajasthan Royals, suffered a shocking dismissal on Day 4 at Chelmsford. Walking in with high expectations, Suryavanshi attempted a trademark aggressive pull shot on the very first delivery he faced from England pacer Alex Green. The result? A misjudged stroke that chopped the ball back onto his stumps, silencing the Indian camp and triggering early pressure in a stiff chase. It was a rare blemish in Suryavanshi's meteoric rise, and a reminder of the patience and discipline demanded by red-ball cricket. But given his age and temperament, the talented left-hander is widely expected to treat this as a stepping stone in his development rather than a setback. Captain Ayush Mhatre Ignites the Fightback with Scintillating Century With India reeling early in their mammoth fourth-innings target of 355, skipper Ayush Mhatre showcased nerves of steel and unleashed a counterattacking masterclass. Known for his aggressive instincts, Mhatre blazed his way to a 126-run knock off just 80 balls, peppering the boundary ropes with 13 fours and six towering sixes. His fifty came off just 25 deliveries, and the acceleration didn't stop there. From audacious pull shots to elegant drives through cover, Mhatre's innings was a blend of brute power and tactical awareness. His strike rate of 157.50 in a red-ball Test underlined the shift in approach modern-day U-19 cricketers are embracing — fearless, fast-paced, and fluid. Notably, this performance comes hot on the heels of his IPL signing with Chennai Super Kings, and if this innings is anything to go by, CSK may have unearthed their next middle-order powerhouse. Vihaan Malhotra and Abhigyan Kundu Hold the Fort While Mhatre stole the spotlight with his breathtaking hundred, crucial support came from Vihaan Malhotra and wicketkeeper-batter Abhigyan Kundu. The duo rotated the strike smartly, absorbed pressure, and stitched valuable partnerships that kept the scoreboard ticking. Their composure helped India narrow the deficit, leaving just 128 runs to chase with sessions to spare. Kundu's presence behind the stumps and with the bat has been vital throughout the series, while Malhotra's game awareness and calm demeanor have made him a promising asset in India's youth setup. England Bowlers Under Pressure Despite Early Breakthroughs Alex Green, who dismissed Suryavanshi with the new ball, initially gave England the edge. However, their bowling unit appeared rattled by Mhatre's onslaught. Fields were spread, lines became erratic, and the Indian batters capitalized on every scoring opportunity. As the final session looms, the contest has become a fascinating tactical battle — can England's bowlers regroup and deliver under pressure, or will India script a famous chase?

'Rishabh Pant hardly put his foot on the ground': Ricky Ponting says injury 'doesn't look good at all' for India
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting, who observed Rishabh Pant from close quarters during his stint as the head coach with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), said the left-handed batter's injury doesn't 'look good' for the visitors, and the immediate swelling on his foot has him really worried. The southpaw got injured on Day 1 of the Manchester Test while trying to go for a reverse sweep off the bowling of Chris Woakes. Rishabh Pant being assisted by a physio after an injury on day one of the fourth Test. (PTI) Pant was batting on 37 when the incident happened. Off the bowling of Woakes, Pant went for a reverse sweep, but he only managed to inside edge the ball onto his foot. He survived the LBW appeal and the subsequent DRS from England. However, he was in immediate pain as the physio came charging out. Pant was unable to stand properly and had to be taken off the field in a golf cart-like vehicle. The wicketkeeper-batter also visited the hospital, and reports are awaited. At this stage, it looks unlikely that Pant will take any further part in the contest. 'He hardly put his foot on the ground. He rolled around for 6-8 minutes before the golf cart came in. The immediate swelling was the worry for me. I've had a metatarsal injury myself, and they're small, fragile bones,' said Ponting on Sky Sports. If it's broken, he will be out of the game. If it's not, then they will do anything they can to get him back out there. Hopefully, he doesn't play any more reverse sweeps,' he added. 'Massive dent on India's chance' At stumps on Day 1 of the Manchester Test, India's score read 264/4 with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur at the crease. Ponting feels India will surely miss Pant's absence if he is to play no further part in the match or the series. 'Thinking about the situation of the game as well, Shardul has come out and played nicely, but with the way Rishabh plays and the momentum he brings to the Indian team, that is what they will potentially miss the most. Someone who can put the pressure on the opposition,' said Ponting. 'For Indian fans, keep fingers crossed and hope it is not as serious as it looks. If he is out of the remainder of the game, then that leaves a massive dent on India's chance, not only in this game, but the remainder of the series,' he added. After the close of play on Day 1, the BCCI issued an update on Pant, saying the wicketkeeper-batter is 'being monitored' by the Medical Team after undergoing scans at the hospital. Further details are awaited.

Rishabh Pant Injury Update: Suspected 'Metatarsal Fracture' Could Rule Him Out For...
India wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant once again found himself in the medical room after being hit on the right boot. Pant started off the Manchester Test in trademark style, hitting his unorthodox shots to put the pressure on England on Wednesday. However, Pant's latest dashing display was cut short while he was batting on a score of 37. The wicketkeeper inside-edged an audacious reverse sweep off Chris Woakes ' yorker on to his right boot. When the shoe was taken off, the foot was swollen and bruised. Pant, who usually is seen as a man with a high pain threshold, couldn't continue and had to be taken off on a golf cart by the medical team. Former India head coach Ravi Shastri painted a grim picture over Pant's situation, saying the injury does look very serious. "Just seeing his face, grimacing there. He has a pain threshold that's very high, and for him to be grimacing in pain in that fashion makes it very serious. It can only get worse overnight," Shastri said on Sky Sports. "When you get up in the morning, it can be really sore, no matter the amount of ice you put. He will be icing it through the night. Let's hope it's not a break or it's not a crack," he added. Ricky Ponting Keeping Fingers Crossed Australia great Ricky Ponting, who worked with Rishabh Pant closely in the Indian Premier League with the Delhi Capitals, suspected a metatarsal injury as there was immediate swelling on the foot. If the foot is indeed broken, Pant feels Pant could be out for the entire game. "He hardly put his foot on the ground. He rolled around for 6-8 minutes before the golf cart came in. The immediate swelling was the worry for me. I've had a metatarsal injury myself, and they're small, fragile bones," said Ponting. Hopefully, he doesn't play any more reverse sweeps," he added. Someone who can put the pressure on the opposition," said Ponting. "For Indian fans, keep fingers crossed and hope it is not as serious as it looks. If he is out of the remainder of the game, then that leaves a massive dent on India's chance, not only in this game, but the remainder of the series," he added. England great Michael Atherton also shared his views on Pant's injury, suggesting the wicket-keeper batter could be out for the remainder of the series, as it does look like quite a serious injury. "If he is out of the he's out of the series, then that's a massive blow to India and puts the day in a different light. That 264 for four becomes 264 for five, and with that new ball due, there is a potential to knock India over reasonably swiftly tomorrow. But if he returns to bat, he could change the game. So there is an uncertainty which we don't know. But it looked like a quite serious injury, because you don't get carted off otherwise," he said.
