Plan Your Weekend Before With These 5 Best Weekend Getaways In Kozhikode
Kozhikode, previously known as Calicut, is a city by the sea in Kerala State, in the southern part of India. The place has a rich history and beautiful beaches that are green with vegetation, making it a perfect combination of culture, history, and nature. For people who want to escape the busy life of cities, Kozhikode provides various options for weekend destinations where they can relax and rejuvenate themselves. This article explores some of the best weekend getaways in and around Kozhikode. 1. Kappad Beach For lovers of beach life or those who enjoy reading historical books like this one titled 'The Last Crossing', Kappad Beach is only 16 kilometers from Kozhikode city center. Its significance lies in it being Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama's landing place when he arrived here in 1498, marking the beginning of European colonial rule in India. It is possible for those visiting this area to sunbathe on its golden sand beaches or swim in the Arabian Sea, but they also have the chance to go on boat trips along the Kappad Backwaters, which is calm and peaceful compared with the noisy city. 2. Wayanad Wayanad comes across as an idyllic escape for nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers, located about 85 kilometers eastwards from Kozhikode town, as per our plan for a walk through such words as 'misty hills,' 'thick forest,' or 'acres full of plantations.' Activities would range from climbing Chembra Peak, exploring ancient rock art at Edakkal Caves, or taking leisurely rides on Pookode Lake, among others. Other activities may include trekking up Chembra Peak, discovering ancient rock art at Edakkal Caves, or even simply ravishing the peace of Pookode Lake. The tranquility and scenic beauty of Wayanad make it an ideal place for the weekend. 3. Beypore The coastal town of Beypore is located just 10 kilometers southwest of Kozhikode and provides an overview of Kerala's maritime history through its elegant shipbuilding industry and traditional Uru (wooden dhow) construction. Among some attractive features of this place are walks on the beautiful beaches surrounding it, visits to the local artisans who construct Urus, or even slow boat rides along the Chaliyar River, among other things that may include walking around picturesque Beypore Beach, watching the skilled workmen in Uru building yards, or taking a leisurely boat ride down the Chaliyar River. It is home to calm nature and rich culture, which makes it a great short vacation. 4. Thusharagiri Waterfalls Thusharagiri Waterfalls is situated amidst lush greenery, about 50 kilometers northeast of Kozhikode, or, as many have called it, 'green woods.' Popularly known as 'the snow-capped mountains' in Malayalam, Thusharagiri boasts magnificent cascading waterfalls, crystal-clear streams running across its territory, and thick forests all over. There are trekking trails leading to different levels of waterfalls where one gets panoramic views of the surrounding landscape if he decides to take them up, as his guide stated in our last meeting upon further discussing those possible route options for hiking here at venue A. With its peaceful environment and natural scenery, Thusharagiri Waterfalls serves as a perfect retreat for nature enthusiasts. 5. Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary In order to give ecotourism enthusiasts a safari adventure, Malabar Wildlife Sanctuary, located approximately 48 kilometers eastwards from Kozhikode, would be their best bet when they seek wildlife reserves elsewhere, if we consider such words as 'uninhabited,' 'untouched,' or 'free.' Situated across Kozhikode and Wayanad districts, the sanctuary is home to several animal species, such as elephants, tigers, and leopards, as well as many varieties of rare birds. Tourists can take rides through the wild parks, watch nature, and/or engage in bird watching to investigate the natural beauty and biodiversity of this region. It is an ideal retreat for those who are interested in environmental issues. Final Thoughts Filled with tranquil beaches and past landmarks, dense forests, and reserves for wild animals, there are many places around Kozhikode where one can spend a weekend in peace. Irrespective of whether you are interested in the historical aspects, nature walks, or even want some adventurous activities to do, Kozhikode's different attractions will make sure that your trip is memorable enough to rejuvenate you entirely. Therefore, load your luggage and go have a look at the calm regions found in the superior Kozhikode weekend getaways.
