
'Lawless' high street gets dedicated police team
The operation will move to other parts of the city with the aim of reducing crime, like shoplifting, in key areas and make people feel safer.In the 12 months up to June, a total of 26,145 shoplifting offences were recorded by the force, compared with 19,184 in the previous 12-month period.
'Constant presence'
The 36% rise is higher than the average for England and Wales over the same time frame (29%).West Midlands Police said the six officers and a sergeant would be on regular patrol on High Street, speaking to local people as well as building relationships with businesses and partners."The results we've seen in Erdington speak for themselves – not just in terms of arrests and charges, but in the look and feel of the area around the high street," Mr Munro said."We're delighted that our work has been met with such positive feedback, and grateful to the Erdington community for their invaluable support and information."The new dedicated High Street team will be a constant presence in the area, and although Fearless is expanding to a new location – our Fearless officers will be using their impressive local and operational knowledge to support them."The team started working in partnership with other officers in the town on 4 April, and has already made 17 arrests, the force said.

Man still in hospital a week after Wolverhampton weapon attack
A man who suffered life-threatening injuries during violence on a road in Wolverhampton is still in hospital more than a week later, police disorder, involving weapons, was on Parkfield Road in the early hours of 27 July during which the man, aged in his 20s, suffered serious head injuries and he was still getting hospital treatment on Sunday, as West Midlands Police made a fresh appeal for witnesses.A second man who also needed hospital treatment had since been men were arrested after the violence and released on bail. Imitation gun found and drug den shut down by police after raid in Sandwell
An imitation of a gun has been found and a drug den shut down after police executed a warrant in Sandwell. It happened on Saturday, August 1, as officers acted on information relating to a building in Rolfe Street, in Smethwick. Police carried out a raid at the derelict venue and found around 300 cannabis plants, Class A drugs and cash. Following further searches, officers also recovered an imitation gun hidden inside a printer. It was executed by the Sandwell Priority Crime Team alongside officers from the Smethwick and West Bromwich neighbourhood teams. It followed information received via the Operation Fearless team, in Birmingham. A statement on the force's website reads: "Drug dealing and firearms have no place in our communities and we are committed to taking drugs and weapons off the streets of Sandwell." A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of producing cannabis, possession with intent to supply drugs and possession of an imitation firearm. He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Man killed and three hurt in Birmingham three-vehicle crash
A man died and three people were hurt and taken to hospital in a crash involving three vehicles in Midlands Police said they were called to the crash on Stratford Road, at its junction with Ladypool Road, just before 23:50 BST on Friday.A 22-year-old man, who was the driver of a Vauxhall which was one of the three vehicles, was taken to hospital but later died, a spokesperson for the force other two vehicles involved were an Audi and a parked vehicle.
