At least 6 killed in India temple stampede

dpa New Dehli At least six people have died in a stampede at a Hindu temple in India, authorities said on Sunday. The incident occurred on a staircase in front of the Mansa Devi Temple in the northern Indian city of Haridwar, according to a police statement on Instagram. Initial information suggests that a rumour about the risk of electrocution from an exposed wire may have been the cause. Media reports also mentioned numerous injuries. An investigation would be conducted and financial support provided to the victims, the chief minister of the state of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, announced on X. India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences to the victims' families on the platform. Stampedes occur repeatedly in India. Trump urges ceasefire

Following the escalation of the conflict between Cambodia and Thailand, US President Donald Trump has urged both parties to agree to a ceasefire and was optimistic that this could come about soon. 'Just spoke to the Prime Minister of Cambodia relative to stopping the War with Thailand. I am calling the Acting Prime Minister of Thailand, right now, to likewise request a Ceasefire, and END to the War, which is currently raging,' Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform on Saturday. 'They have agreed to immediately meet and quickly work out a Ceasefire and, ultimately, PEACE!' the US president added. Earlier, Trump had spoken in separate phone calls with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet and Thailand's interim Prime Minister Phumtham Wechayachai. He added: 'We happen to be, by coincidence, currently dealing on Trade with both Countries, but do not want to make any Deal, with either Country, if they are fighting - And I have told them so!'
