SEREMBAN - Police have arrested a 30-year-old woman for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old boy at a grocery store in the Sri Palma Villa residential area in Mantin yesterday.
Nilai district police chief Supt Abdul Malik Hasim said they received a report from a woman at 3.28pm, stating that her son had been assaulted and threatened by a woman known to them while at the grocery store.
"The incident was reported to have occurred around 12.30pm yesterday, when the boy was buying a drink at the shop and was suddenly attacked by the suspect, who kicked and stomped on the victim's face and legs.
"The suspect is also alleged to have issued a death threat against the victim. The incident was captured on the store's closed-circuit television system and was also witnessed by a customer who was at the scene,' he said in a statement today. Malik said the suspect was arrested at 10.58pm yesterday, and preliminary investigations revealed she is a holder of a Person with Disability card and is believed to have mental health issues.
He said the suspect was believed to have been hallucinating at the time of the incident and accused the boy of stealing items from the premises, although there was no evidence to support the claim.
"The victim received treatment at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital in Seremban and was found to have swelling on his nose and bruises on several parts of his legs,' he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 and Section 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation. - BERNAMA

CYBERJAYA, July 25 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) today commenced the Public Consultation on the Proposed Regulatory Framework for Retention, Preservation, and Disclosure of Communications Data for Investigation Purposes (Proposed Regulatory Framework). In today's statement, the MCMC said that the initiative follows recent amendments to the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (CMA 1998), with the introduction of sections 252A, 252B, and 268A, which came into force in February. It said that the new provisions provide a legislative basis for the retention, preservation, and disclosure of communications data in support of criminal investigations. 'In an era where online threats such as scams, fraud, cyberbullying, and harassment are becoming increasingly frequent and complex, it is vital for law enforcement agencies to have timely access to accurate and reliable data to assist in their investigation. 'Such access is crucial in ensuring public safety and safeguarding national security,' read the statement. It stated that the Proposed Regulatory Framework aims to enhance the investigative capabilities of law enforcement agencies, provide clear legal and operational guidance for service providers, while protecting individual privacy through defined safeguards and due process. The MCMC encouraged industry players, civil society, and the general public to participate in the consultation process, which will be open until Aug 8. Art museum owner fined RM300k for illegal wildlife parts possession
KUALA LUMPUR: An art museum owner has been fined RM300,000 by the Sessions Court for illegally possessing protected wildlife parts without a licence. Yiu Shoou Rang, 66, pleaded guilty to eight amended charges and was also sentenced to nine months' imprisonment if he failed to pay the fine, which he later settled. The charges included possession of an orangutan skull, two estuarine crocodile skulls, and seven elephant tusks—all fully protected species under the Wildlife Conservation Act 2010. The offences took place at a business premises in Central Market, Jalan Hang Kasturi, on January 8, 2024. Yiu also faced four additional charges for possessing 150 wild boar parts, 10 porcupine quills, and six sambar deer parts without a valid licence. These offences fall under Section 60(1)(a) of the Wildlife Conservation Act, which carries penalties of up to RM50,000 in fines or three years' imprisonment. Deputy public prosecutor Suhaila Rashid pushed for a deterrent sentence, while defence counsel Teh See Khoon argued for leniency, stating the items were part of an Orang Asli collection meant for museum display.
