Ravens Outsmart NFL Using International Pathway Program

Yahoo16-05-2025
The International Pathway Program is something the NFL made in order to encourage players from other countries to see what they can do in the NFL.
One notable player that used this is Philadelphia Eagles star lineman Jordan Mailata, who grew up playing rugby in Australia, and then came over to the United States when he was 21.

The Baltimore Ravens have now made use of this program, but they have found a way to cheat the system just a bit.
Nigerian edge rusher appeared in 13 games this past season for the Ravens, which would make one think that he would not be eligible for the IPP.
But you would be wrong.
The only qualifications needed are citizenship and residency outside the United States and Canada, with a maximum of two years of US high school experience. And Ojabo fits those requirements.
That means the NFL had to grant a roster exemption to the Ravens. They then used that open roster spot to sign a rookie who went undrafted, North Carolina linebacker Kaimon Rucker.

The 23-year-old finished his final season with the Tar Heels with six sacks, eight tackles for loss, and even an interception. That versatility was enough for the reigning AFC North champions to take a chance on him.
It might have been a bit of an unorthodox way to get to an NFL team, but Rucker will be looking to prove that Baltimore did not make a mistake jumping through all of the hoops they did in order to sign him.

Steelers Are Lying About Trading T.J. Watt, Hints Mike Florio

Steelers Are Lying About Trading T.J. Watt, Hints Mike Florio originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers position on opting to dump unhappy superstar pass-rusher T.J. Watt in a trade seems pretty clear to us. Advertisement The work needs to be done regarding Watt's desire for a lucrative contract extension. ... maybe a desire as grand as $40 million per year. The Steelers are making it perfectly clear that while they might not like the "$40 million'' part, they agree with where the efforts need to point. "(Expletive) no'' was the answer coming out of the building earlier this week on the subject of a blockbuster trade-away of Watt. And now Steelers team insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is echoing that, as during a Tuesday appearance on "The Rich Eisen Show" he used a pair of forceful three-word phrases to state the club's position. Advertisement Pittsburgh trading Watt isn't "on the radar,'' he asserted. A trade is "not gonna happen,'' he added. Dulac also added a timetable to the proceedings, saying he believes Watt will sign an extension "sometime between" the Steelers' preseason finale at the Carolina Panthers (that game is on Aug. 21) and Pittsburgh's Week 1 regular-season matchup at the New York Jets (that game is on Sept. 7). "The Steelers want to and believe they will sign T.J. Watt," Dulac said. Dulac is plugged-in and on the beat. Yet ... now along comes Mike Florio of who has a habit of offering unwanted advice to teams and players and non-sourced info to his audience. Advertisement And Florio isn't just failing to buy what the Steelers (and reputable Pittsburgh media people) are saying. He's sort of calling them liars. "NFL Media pushed the idea that they have no intention to trade T.J. Watt, which is often the precursor to a trade," Florio claimed during a Wednesday appearance on Pittsburgh sports radio station 93.7 The Fan. Florio is right about how real teams and real reporters choose their words wisely - and the reason is not because "everybody is a liar.'' This is a never-say-never league. Most trained and experienced reporters recognize that and therefore wisely leave ajar the door in the event of change. Advertisement That's an ancient art now in the world of clickbait journalism, where headlines must be forceful and loud and definitive ... even if the reporter's information isn't definitive at all. There is no reason to think the Pittsburgh media is fibbing about what its been told and there is no reason to think the Steelers are covering up some secret plot to trade one of their all-time greatest players. If this thing blows up, that will be driven by a number of factors. But a deceitful conspiracy won't likely be one of them. Steelers' New Cornerback Jalen Ramsey Gets Pay Raise Ahead of 2025

Steelers' New Cornerback Jalen Ramsey Gets Pay Raise Ahead of 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers' newsworthy offseason continues to turn heads. The team acquired cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith, along with a seventh-round pick in 2027, from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Advertisement This move is on the heels of Pittsburgh acquiring corner Darius Slay Jr. earlier in the offseason. The Steelers might have one of, if not the, best cornerback crews in the NFL with Ramsey, Slay Jr. and Joey Porter Jr. But the trade was just the first part of the deal with Ramsey. The Steelers have reportedly already given the All-Pro corner a pay raise ahead of next season. "The Miami Dolphins have agreed to trade three-time All-Pro CB Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote via his X account. "As a part of the trade, Ramsey will get a $1.5 million raise this season, bringing his 2025 compensation up to $26.6 million. Steelers get their man and Ramsey gets another raise." Advertisement Ramsey will enter his 10th season in the league. The seven-time Pro Bowler and three-time First-Team All-Pro will be joining his fourth team in the league after being drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016, then moving to the Rams in 2019 and the Dolphins in 2023. The former Florida State Seminole has registered 534 total tackles with 432 solo and 27 for loss. He has added three sacks, two fumble recoveries, six forced fumbles and 24 interceptions with one pick-6 across 135 games and 134 starts. Analyst Predicts Will Howard's Role with Steelers

Analyst Predicts Will Howard's Role with Steelers originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed veteran free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason after a long and arduous courting process. They also drafted Ohio State's Will Howard in the sixth round of this year's NFL Draft. Advertisement Rodgers is 41 years old and has an extensive injury history recently, but Howard is inexperienced and raw. Which one wins the starting job? Of course, that's a ridiculous question. Rodgers will start 2025 under center, or he wouldn't have signed with the Steelers. But that doesn't mean he'll finish it. Barring another injury to the 10-time Pro Bowler and four-time All-Pro, ESPN's Mike Tannenbaum believes it'll take until December before Howard overtakes Rodgers as the starter. "Will Howard will be starting for the Pittsburgh Steelers by December 1," he said on 'Get Up'. "Will Howard led Ohio State to the national championship, 89 QBR, 35 touchdown passes. And if he was a little bit better in the offseason before the draft, he could have been a third or a fourth-round pick." Advertisement Howard isn't your typical college quarterback transitioning to the NFL. He played in 50 games, threw for 9,796 yards and 83 touchdowns. He has more experience than most who enter the NFL as rookies. Tannenbaum also thinks Rodgers' age has a little something to do with him losing the starting role next year. "Aaron Rodgers is an all-time great, but he will be 42 in December," he said. "Last year, Pittsburgh gave up sacks at the 28th-highest rate, meaning they were not very good at protecting the passer. So when you have a 42-year-old quarterback, no offseason program, an offensive line that should, in fairness, be better because Troy Fautanu is coming back, I think Will Howard has a meaningful chance to be the quarterback of the future."
