It was quite the eventful day in Indian cricket on Tuesday with the senior men's and women's teams meeting King Charles III at London's Clarence House, the royal residence of the British monarch. Both teams are touring England simultaneously, with the Shubman Gill-led men's team playing five Tests and the Harmanpreet Kaur-led women playing five T20Is and three ODIs.
The meeting with British royalty took place immediately after the men's team suffered a heartbreaking 22-run defeat in the third Test against the Ben Stokes-led English team. And King Charles, who had been coronated in May 2023 following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, couldn't help but react to Mohammad Siraj's dramatic dismissal off Shoaib Bashir's bowling that brought a thrilling final day at the 'Home of Cricket' to an end and sealed England's victory.

'It was amazing to meet King Charles III and he was very kind and generous to call us. We had some really good conversations. King Charles III told us that the way our last batsman got out in the previous test match was quite unfortunate, the ball rolling on the stumps…We told him that it was an unfortunate match for us and could have gone either ways. Hopefully, we will have better luck in both the next games,' Gill revealed to reporters after his meeting with the King.
King Charles enquires about Akash Deep's sister
BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla, meanwhile, revealed that King Charles had also enquired about Akash Deep's elder sister during his meeting with the Indian teams. Akash had revealed that his sister is suffering from cancer and dedicated his match-winning performance in the second Test at Edgbaston, where he collected 10 wickets including 6/99 in the second innings to her.
'It was a historic occasion. Both our men's and women's teams were invited by King Charles and met him at the Palace. The players were very happy because he asked about personal details of each one of them,' Shukla, who was also present on the occasion, revealed.
'He even inquired about Akash Deep's sister's illness. He had clearly done his research,' he added.
The Gill-led men's team will travel to Manchester, where they will be aiming to level the five-Test series 2-2 in the fourth Test that gets underway at Old Trafford next week.
Harmanpreet and Co, meanwhile, turn their attention towards the three-match ODI series against England that gets underway on Wednesday after pulling off a historic 3-2 T20I series win – their first on English soil.

Hamza Shaikh's ton helps England U19 draw first Youth Test vs India U19

England U19 captain Hamza Shaikh led from the front with a fighting century as the hosts held India U19 to a tense draw in the first Youth Test here on Tuesday. Chasing a stiff target of 350, England ended on 270/7 in 63 overs, frustrating the visitors' push for a win that would have given them a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. Shaikh was the mainstay of England's resistance, scoring a composed 112 off 140 balls with 11 fours and two sixes. He received crucial support from Ben Mayes, who struck a steady 51 off 82 balls (3x4s), and wicketkeeper-batter Thomas Rew, who chipped in with a brisk 50 off just 35 balls (8x4s). India had threatened to force a result when they reduced England to 62/3 in the 14th over but the hosts fought back through Shaikh's partnerships with Mayes and Rew. With an hour left on the final day, India gave themselves hope by pulling off two run outs in successive overs -- first removing the prized wicket of Shaikh and then sending back Ekansh Singh in the next over. But Ralphie Albert (9 not out of 37 balls) and Jack Home (7 not out off 36 balls) showed commendable composure under immense pressure as India threw everything at them with an all-out attacking field. Close-in fielders crowded the batters with two slips, a silly point, and a short leg forming a tight cordon, but the English pair held their nerves to survive the final overs and secure a hard-fought draw for the hosts. Earlier, India U-19 resumed their second innings on 128 for three and posted 248 in 57.4 overs, setting England a daunting target. Vihaan Malhotra top-scored with a gritty 63 off 85 balls, hitting 10 fours. He and overnight partner Abhigyan Kundu looked settled before Alex Green (2/67) struck twice in quick succession, removing both while Rahul Kumar (11) also got out cheaply as India slipped from 171/3 to 187/6. With the visitors in danger of a collapse, RS Ambrish played a crucial knock of 53 off 71 balls, adding valuable runs with the tail. He was the last man to depart, run out as India folded for 248. India U19, led by Ayush Mhatre, had earlier claimed the five-match Youth ODI series 3-2. Brief scores: India U-19 540 & 248 in 57.4 overs. England U-19 439 & 270/7 in 63 overs (Hamza Shaikh 112, Ben Mayes 51, Thomas Rew 50; RS Ambrish 2/48). Match drawn.

India vs England Women's ODI Series 2025, Live streaming: All you need to know

Riding high after their historic T20I series win over England, the Indian women's cricket team is set to take on the hosts in a three-match ODI series starting Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. This series marks a crucial phase in India's preparations for the upcoming ICC Women's ODI World Cup, which will be held on home soil later this year. After edging out England 3-2 in the T20Is-India's first-ever T20I series win against the English side-Harmanpreet Kaur's team is brimming with confidence and intent to carry that momentum into the 50-over last ODI assignment was the Tri-series in May, featuring Sri Lanka and South Africa, where they emerged victorious with dominant performances. In that series, India's approach reflected a significant shift in mindset. They posted totals of 276, 275, 337, and 342, showcasing a renewed emphasis on aggressive batting. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur acknowledged this change, noting that the team has been focused on consistently scoring more than 300 runs in ODIs to give the bowlers ample cushion. She also highlighted how the inclusion of multiple spin options, seen in the T20I series, has helped India gain an edge in the middle overs. Rawal has been in sensational form, having recently become the fastest batter to reach 500 runs in women's ODIs. She will be joined at the top and middle order by the experienced and dependable Smriti Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, Harleen Deol, and hard-hitting Richa Ghosh. The Indian batting unit is further strengthened by the finishing abilities of Deepti Sharma and Amanjot Kaur, both of whom add depth and power to the lower order. England, meanwhile, will be buoyed by the return of two of their most crucial players. Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt, who missed the final three T20Is due to a groin injury, is fit again and will lead the side. Also back is the world No. 1 ODI bowler Sophie Ecclestone, making her return after a knee injury that kept her out of action during the West Indies series. Were Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Forced To Retire? 'It's The Policy Of BCCI...'

Last Updated: Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket within days of each other leaving raising eyebrows. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla has clarified whether Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were asked to retire from Test cricket. Both Rohit and Kohli announced their respective Test retirements within days of each other earlier this year even as the duo was expected to be on the flight to UK for the ongoing five-Test series between India and England. The decisions were surprising considering neither gave any prior hint. Rohit, in an interview to former Australia captain Michael Clarke, had expressed how he was looking forward to leading India in England while it later emerged that Kohli too was eager to get back his Test form in England, hoping for bucketful of runs. It did give rise to speculations over the retirement not being their own calls. However, Shukla has cleared the air, 'once and for all." 'I want to make it very clear once and for all," Shukla was quoted as saying by news agency ANI on Tuesday. 'We are all feeling the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. The decision to retire was made by Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli on their own. It is the policy of BCCI that we never tell any player to retire. It was their call." Indian Teams Meet King Charles III 76-year-old British Monarch King Charles III met with the Indian men and women cricket teams in the gardens of Clarence House in Lond on Tuesday. He discussed cricket with the likes of Test captain Shubman Gill, Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant. 'It was amazing. I think he (King Charles) is very kind and generous… we had some really good conversations," Gill told media after the audience. King Charles III also enquired about India's Lord's Test defeat as they came close to chasing down 193 on the final day before an unfortunate dismissal ended their hopes. 'He did tell us that the way our last batsman (Mohammed Siraj) got out was quite unfortunate, the ball rolling on to the stumps. And he was just asking us, 'how did you feel after that?' And we told him it was an unfortunate match for us… but hopefully, we'll have better luck in both the next games," Gill said.
