NEP 2020 has taken steps to stop commercialisation of education: Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan
He was responding to a starred question by MP Arminder Singh Raja as to whether any survey had been done regarding the surging tuition fee in public and private universities and if any guidelines had been put in place to regulate cost of online and hybrid degree programmes under NEP 2020. Raja also wanted details about Central scholarships granted to students from economically weaker sections.
Pradhan said NEP 2020 emphasises online and offline public disclosure and transparency for both public and private schools. "NEP proposes similar standards of audit and disclosure as a 'not-for- profit' entity to all the education institutions. Surplus, if any, will be reinvested in the educational sector. Similarly, in higher education, all HEIs- public and private- shall be treated at par observing common guidelines."
The Universities are autonomous bodies which are governed by their respective Acts or statues. Based on the type of universities, the criteria for fee structure is administered, he said. In respect of IITs/ IIITs / NITs/IIEST/ IIMs etc, the fee structure is regulated as per the provision of the respective Acts/ Statutes, Pradhan pointed out.

In the Rajya Sabha, the situation escalated as Opposition members demanded a discussion on the SIR drive and Dhankhar's resignation. When Deputy Chairman Harivansh rejected adjournment motions moved by several Opposition MPs, uproar ensued, with members storming the well of the House and raising slogans. The Rajya Sabha was first adjourned till noon, then 2 p.m., and finally for the day. The Lok Sabha saw a similar scenario with persistent disruptions. Opposition MPs demanded debates on both the SIR exercise and Operation Sindoor, but Speaker Om Birla denied permission. New Delhi: The Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Tuesday due to protests by the opposition demanding a discussion on the ongoing voter roll revision in Bihar, even as the government accused them of practising "double standards" by asking for a debate on one hand and disrupting the House on the other. The Rajya Sabha was also adjourned for the day without transacting any business after uproar by Opposition members over several issues including a discussion on Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. Opposition members trooped to the Well of the Lok Sabha when the House reconvened at 2 pm after two earlier adjournments on the second day of the Monsoon session of Parliament demanding a discussion and roll back of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise initiated by the Election Commission in Bihar ahead of assembly polls scheduled for later this year. Dilip Saikia, who was on the chair, made repeated requests to opposition MPs to go back to their places and allow the House to function. As the protests continued, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju got up and condemned the opposition behaviour. The Upper House earlier saw two adjournments during the pre-lunch period, before it was finally adjourned within minutes of meeting at 2 PM. Soon after the House met, Deputy Chairman Harivansh announced the name of Shipping Minister Sarbananda Sonowal to move a motion for consideration of The Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025.

At Rs 1.97 lakh, TN's per capita income higher than national avg
CHENNAI: Union Minister of State for Finance, Pankaj Chaudhary, told the Lok Sabha on Monday that Tamil Nadu ranked second in per capita income (Rs 1,96,309) in the country during 2024-25, and this is higher than the national average (Rs 1,14,710) for the year. An official release said as per the announcement made by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, the government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin, has achieved a remarkable economic growth rate of 9.69% in 2024-2025, the highest in the country. This is acclaimed as the highest growth rate recorded by Tamil Nadu in the last 10 years. Stating that Tamil Nadu is the first state in India to attain this achievement, the release said this became possible due to the innovative schemes being implemented by the present government since 2021.
