A press briefing by the Congress leadership from J&K on the issue of statehood was conspicuously missed by the party's state president — Tariq Hameed Karra. Those who addressed the media at the party headquarters in Delhi were J&K CLP leader Ghulam Ahmad Mir, former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijaya Singh, general secretary in-charge (J&K and Ladakh) Naseer Hussain and spokesperson Ravinder Sharma. Karra was present at a meeting of Congress leaders from J&K with the party brass in Delhi on Tuesday evening. His absence led to some speculation in the party circles in Srinagar and Delhi, but sources close to him said he was unwell.
With the shift to the new complex imminent, officers from ministries located in North Block and other government buildings have started visiting their new offices at the Common Central Secretariat (CCS) buildings. A rush of government cars can be seen entering and exiting the complex, which is yet to be inaugurated. It is learnt that officers have been going to see their new offices, try out their desks and see to the finishing touches. The shifting is likely to start after the Monsoon Session of Parliament ends in August.

As Uttar Pradesh moves closer to assembly elections, deputy chief ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak on Friday appealed for ensuring a repeat of the Bharatiya Janata Party's 2017 performance in the 2027 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. They made the appeal at the birthday celebrations of prison minister Dara Singh Chauhan. The BJP alone had won 312 seats in the 403-member assembly during the 2017 polls. State BJP president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary, deputy CMs Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak arrived at the venue together. Members of the Nonia caste, an OBC category to which Dara Singh Chauhan belongs, came in large numbers from across the state. Pathak was first to address the gathering after Chauhan's welcome address and Chaudhary's non-political speech that was confined to extending birthday wishes to Dara Singh Chauhan. Pathak not only attacked Samajwadi Party but also exhorted the gathering to take a 'sankalp' (oath) to vote for the BJP in the forthcoming assembly polls in 2027. 'In the Samajwadi Party government, traders were most vulnerable. There was no power supply and goons ruled the roost,' Pathak said. He praised the Chauhan community and contributions made by them in the freedom struggle from 1857 to 1947. 'In 2027, you will vote against the Samajwadi Party. Take sankalp (oath). Ensure a repeat of 2017 in 2027,' Pathak exhorted the gathering. Pathak's appeal was greeted by a big round of applause from the gathering. Maurya, whose speech was centered around various schemes launched by PM Narendra Modi for the poor, also attacked the Samajwadi Party. 'You have to ensure a repeat of 2017 (assembly poll result) in 2027,' he said. 'PM Narendra Modi's decision of caste census has left the opposition speechless,' Maurya said. He also mentioned the Indian armed forces' success during Operation Sindoor.

India signals thaw in China curbs to boost electronics ties
Indian electronics manufacturing would likely see some collaboration with Chinese companies, a top federal official said, signalling a thaw in hitherto enforced strict investment curbs in light of Beijing's dominant three-fifths share in the global electronics ecosystem. "We want to grow our manufacturing capacity. So, some sort of collaboration with China is something we can't avoid," said the official, who declined to be named. "Therefore, we have to be strategic about what we do, and how we do it. But, it has to be done."The official's comments follow the federal nod to a deal between home-grown Dixon Technologies and Chinese original design manufacturer, Longcheer Intelligence Pte. Earlier this month, the Niti Aayog had reportedly proposed that Chinese firms be allowed to acquire up to a 24% stake in Indian companies without requiring additional security clearances. In place since 2020, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade's guidelines mandate foreign direct investment from neighboring countries need prior security clearance from both the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs.

Maldivian President Muizzu affirms enduring strength of India-Maldives ties at state banquet
Male/New Delhi, July 25 (UNI) Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu today affirmed the enduring strength of Maldives-India relations, stating that the historic bond between both nations cannot be weakened. He made the remakes at a state banquet hosted by himself and First Lady Sajidha Mohamed in honour of Indian Prime Minister Modi, who is on a two-day state visit to the Maldives at the President's invitation. In his speech, the President said that while this year marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of official diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India, the relationship dates back centuries. While history bears witness to this, he noted that both countries have deep-rooted ties through trade and other cultural activities since long before official diplomatic relations were established. The President emphasised that India has always been an important partner in the Maldives' development journey, and noted that the relationship is strengthening, particularly in the fields of security, health, trade and education. He expressed confidence that India can play an important role in building a sustainable, inclusive and youth-driven economy in the Maldives. In his speech, the President also acknowledged Prime Minister Modi as the second longest-serving Prime Minister in India's history, describing it as a reflection of his dedication to national service. The banquet was attended by members of the visiting Indian delegation and senior officials of the Government of the Maldives. Earlier, during the joint press statement following their delegation level talks, President Muizzu underscored India's central role in the Maldives' development. Eight memoranda of understanding were signed during the official meetings, reflecting mutual commitment to broad collaboration across key sectors, including infrastructure, defence, education, health care, and economic development. Among the agreements, a USD 565 million line of credit was announced, an initiative President Muizzu described as essential for advancing critical national priorities. Targeted areas include sports, public housing, health services, education, and military infrastructure. India also offered a currency swap facility intended to help the Maldives navigate prevailing economic challenges. Discussions also reflected the durability of bilateral relations, as President Muizzu commended India's longstanding assistance, including its timely response during disasters and emergencies, which reinforced the partnership's humanitarian and strategic significance. Developmental projects featured prominently in the discussions, with President Muizzu highlighting the India-assisted Malé-Thilafushi bridge as a cornerstone of cooperative infrastructure and a forthcoming symbol of shared progress. Other initiatives noted included the construction of 3,300 housing units, extensive roadworks in Addu City, and the provision of 72 heavy vehicles to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF).
