Outstanding tahfiz students to receive full scholarships
Ahmad Zahid said he would soon hold discussions with Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki to realise this initiative.
'This 100 per cent scholarship is already a practice under MARA's Education Institutions (IPMA) for top-performing students, and this year, we will prioritise tahfiz school students for admission to UniKL and UPTM.
'These students are not only 'huffaz' (memorisers of the Quran) but will also go on to become professionals in their respective fields after graduation,' he said when met by reporters at the 2025 Huffaz Graduation and Ulul Albab excellence appreciation ceremony at Sekolah Menengah Imtiaz Ulul Albab Melaka here today.
Also present was chairman of the school's board of governors, Prof Datuk Dr Mizan Hitam, who is also a member of the Melaka Islamic Religious Council (MAIM).
A total of 82 students completed the memorisation of all 30 juzuk (chapters) of the Quran throughout 2024, while 46 students received SPM 2024 excellence awards during the ceremony.
On the upcoming National Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Day 2025, to be held at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) from June 11 to 13, Ahmad Zahid said the event would feature new and exciting elements this year.
He said these elements would include electric vehicles (EV), information technology (IT) and eSports.
'We're opening the doors wide for prospective students and participants to explore what TVET institutions across the country have to offer through exhibitions that showcase opportunities available to them once they enrol.
'More than that, they'll get a glimpse of the career prospects and salary scales that await them upon graduating from these institutions,' he added.

ROME: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a meeting with the Muslim community in Italy during his three-day official visit to the country. During the meeting, Anwar held discussions with Comunita Religiosa Islamica Italiana (Coreis) vice-president Imam Yahya Pallavicini and Islamic Cultural Centre of Italy-Grand Mosque of Rome secretary-general Abdellah Redouane. Anwar said the meeting provided an opportunity for dialogue and the exchange of views on efforts to strengthen the development of the ummah, including addressing Islamophobia with wisdom and prudence. "I also stressed Malaysia's commitment to upholding Islam based on the values of moderation, tolerance, and harmony through education, dakwah, and international cooperation with the Muslim community in Italy," he said after the meeting. As a gesture of goodwill, Anwar also contributed aid to the Muslim community in Rome and presented a special edition copy of the Quran, along with 10 Italian-translated copies. There are about 2.7 million Muslims living in Italy.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 – Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid has called on the media to stop referring to her solely as 'Zahid's daughter' in headlines, urging for recognition of her own name and identity in news reports. In a Facebook post, Nurulhidayah acknowledged her pride in being the daughter of Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, but stressed that she is also an independent individual with her own views and contributions. 'Every person deserves to be recognised and respected by their own name and for their own contributions,' she said, adding that repeated use of the label 'Zahid's daughter' effectively erases her identity. 'I believe the media has a responsibility to report accurately, fairly, and with respect for each person's identity, regardless of their family ties.' She attached a screenshot of a Malaysiakini report citing her remarks on former Umno members who wish to return to the party. Nurulhidayah said she does not deny her familial ties, but believes ethical journalism should prioritise accurate and respectful identification of individuals. 'I have never asked to be glorified or held in high regard, but I do ask that my name — Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid — be used ethically in writing,' she said. Nurulhidayah added that while her father's name will always be associated with her, it should not come at the cost of diminishing her own personal agency or professional standing. She said ethical reporting that acknowledges individuals by name contributes to a media culture based on integrity, professionalism, and fairness. 'I have never denied who my father is. But I will also not allow my own name to be erased,' she said.
