The BCCI earned Rs 361 crore from the media rights of non-IPL events which included the rights for series featuring the Indian cricket team. At the moment, Viacom18 holds the rights for the Indian cricket team matches while Disney Star and Viacom18 have the IPL rights for the 2023-27 cycle.
'BCCI has immense potential to commercialise traditional formats like Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, or CK Nayudu Trophy to shore up non-IPL revenues. Moreover, the board has close to ₹30,000 crore in reserves, which brings in about ₹1,000 crore a year in interest alone. These revenues aren't just sustainable—they are poised to grow 10–12 per cent annually, thanks to expanding sponsorships, media deals, and matchday earnings.,' said Sandeep Goyal, Chief of Rediffusion.
The growing revenue has put BCCI in a brilliant possible when it comes to the global cricketing landscape. Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) has reiterated how important India is to global cricket. 'ICC depends on BCCI for the bulk of its funding. ICC is not driving revenue as it should,' said Ajimon Francis, Managing Director at Brand Finance India.

MU issues physical marks cards to graduates
Mangaluru: Mangalore University has fulfilled the long-pending demand for physical marks cards for candidates who graduated under the National Education Policy-2020, where marks cards were issued digitally. PL Dharma, vice-chancellor, and H Devendrappa, registrar (evaluation), said that after obtaining special permission from the higher education department and with the support of UT Khader, speaker of assembly, the university has met the demand for issuing physical marks cards. This announcement was made during the first general academic council meeting held on Friday. Dharma stated that marks cards were already sent to the respective colleges. A total of 13,517 marks cards for undergraduate students out of over 18,000 candidates were printed and issued. In the postgraduate section, a total of 1,637 marks cards were printed and issued. "Close to 5,000 undergraduate marks cards have not been issued due to errors in the data. We are trying to rectify this and issue them at the earliest. The data received from UUCMS contains errors," said Dharma, adding that the university is not charging for the issuance of mark cards. The issuance of physical marks cards will bring much-needed relief to graduates who faced inconvenience due to the digitally issued ones. Dharma mentioned that many graduates complained as they were unable to secure jobs or pursue higher education abroad. During the meeting, the revised syllabus of various courses, autonomous status for Mahatma Gandhi College, Udupi, revised sitting fees, travel allowances, and other allowances for syndicate members and officials were discussed. The cash-strapped university has increased the syndicate member sitting fee from Rs 5,000 to Rs 8,000. Internal probe under progress for Belapu Mangalore University allegedly diverted about Rs 8.5 crore funds sanctioned for the development of the PG centre in Belapu in Udupi district. Instead of utilising the funds for the project, the university used them for an international hostel and other activities, violating the govt order. Dharma said that an internal inquiry in this regard is in progress. One report has already been submitted. "We still need at least Rs 12 crore to complete the Belapu project and have already spent about Rs 38.3 crore. We have planned to start unique courses, including one related to marine and coastal security," he said.

Olympian Pahal set to return from injury at Indian Open Athletics in Patna
Kiran Pahal will be one of the major attractions at Indian Open Athletics meet to be held at Patliputra Sports Complex in Kanker Bagh, Patna, on Saturday. Pahal, who competed at Paris Olympics and currently holds second-best timing by an Indian woman in 400m, will be making a comeback from injury and running for the first time since Paris Games. Speaking ahead of the event, Pahal, a resident of Rohtak, Haryana, said, "After coming back from Paris, as I started training following a break, I felt a pain in my knee. At first I thought it would go away but once I did an MRI in March, I was told I had a third grade meniscus tear. As a result I had to undergo surgery and was under rehabilitation for a couple of months." Naturally it's going to be challenging for the 24-year-old but Pahal said she will be looking to give her best. Her PB at the moment is 50.92 seconds which she achieved during Indian Championships at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Panchkula last year that helped her make it to the Olympics. It's only slower than Hima Das's NR of 50.79 seconds that she had achieved at 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta. Meanwhile, speaking during a press conference ahead of the event Raveendran Sankaran, director general cum CEO of Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), said, "Very soon, an international level athletics track will be built at Patliputra Sports Complex, like the one used in Paris Olympics. This will make this complex suitable for organizing national and international level athletics competitions." The Sports Complex has already hosted several important events like the 4th Indian Open Under-23 Athletics Meet in 2024, 20th National Youth Athletics Championships and Khelo India Youth Games this year. The state has been giving a lot of importance recently and after hosting Asian Champions Trophy for women last year, it will also host the men's Asia Cup from Aug 27 to Sept 7. Besides India, seven more teams will take part in the event and the winner will earn a spot at World Cup next year.

Union home minister Amit Shah NEW DELHI: With India having entered the race to host the 2036 Olympics, home minister Amit Shah on Friday said around 3,000 sportspersons are being provided a monthly stipend of Rs 50,000 each to prepare for the games, and hoped that the country would be among the top five nations in the medal tally. Addressing an event here to felicitate the 613 medal winners of the 21st World Police and Fire Games-2025 held recently in the US, Shah congratulated the Indian police and fire services team for making the country proud. With the next World Police and Fire Games set to be held in Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar and Kevadia in Gujarat, he exhorted all sportspersons to single-mindedly focus on winning a medal. He hoped that the Indian sportspersons' performance will serve as a recognition of the country's great potential for sports.
