Benson and Hinds homer, Reds win third straight, 4-1 over Guardians
Brent Suter allowed four hits in three innings before five relievers combined to allow a run on four hits for the Reds, including a 1-2-3 sixth inning by Luis Mey (1-0).
Lyon Richardson relieved Suter and allowed Daniel Schneemann's solo homer, his sixth, leading off the fifth to put the Guardians ahead 1-0.
Slade Cecconi (0-1) was reinstated from the 15-day injured list to start Saturday for the Guardians after recovering from a left oblique strain he suffered during spring training.
Cecconi allowed just two hits through four innings, but Benson tied the score 1-1 with his third homer leading off the fifth. Benson has homered in three straight games for the first time in his career.
In the sixth, TJ Friedl doubled and scored on Santiago Espinal's single to put the Reds ahead. Espinal scored on Austin Hays' double off Cade Smith to make it 3-1.
Cecconi gave up three runs on five hits in five innings, tying a career-high with eight Ks and no walks.
Hinds made the score 4-1 with his second homer in the seventh off Jakob Junis.
Emilio Pagán retired the Guardians in order in the ninth for his 11th save.

It was one of the most memorable plays of the 2024 NFL season. It left Pro Bowl wide receivers and a Super Bowl-winning coach in awe. It will grace the cover of the newest Madden NFL video game. Saquon Barkley's hurdle now has another accolade: ESPY Award winner. The annual sports awards show gave Barkley's incredible feat against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 9 of last season the "Best Play" award. The Philadelphia Eagles running back flew like an eagle on the play, reverse hurdling over Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones to convert a third-and-six in the second quarter. Philadelphia ended up winning the game 28-23 thanks in no small part to Barkley's 199 total yards (159 rushing, 40 receiving) and two touchdowns. It was one of his six games with at least 100 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns but that play stood out to his teammates and coach. "It was the best play I've ever seen," Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game. "What I think is so cool, there's going to be kids all over the country and all over Philadelphia trying to make that play and talking about that play and simulating that play as they play backyard football or peewee football. Rodrigo De Paul to join Leo Messi at Inter Miami, AP source says
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — Another close friend of Lionel Messi will soon play in South Florida. Argentine midfielder Rodrigo De Paul has agreed to contract terms with Inter Miami, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Wednesday. The 31-year-old De Paul will leave Atlético Madrid — where he's played for four years — for Major League Soccer on a short-term contract with Inter Miami that could potentially lead to a multiyear deal. He had one year left on his contract at Atlético Madrid. ESPN first reported the deal. De Paul and national team buddy Messi hope to continue to elevate Inter Miami, which has reached historic heights since Messi's arrival in 2023. De Paul could be in uniform with Inter Miami in time for the start of Leagues Cup play later this month, though his exact arrival date is uncertain, said the person, who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the signing has not been announced. The deal, which has been in the works for several weeks, comes as negotiations between Messi and Inter Miami on a contract extension remain ongoing. The nine-time Ballon d'Or winner's current contract expires at the end of December, and he is expected to return to the club that he's played with for the past two years.
