Not-So-Stealth Luxury: Deluxe New Drops From H. Moser x Cie. & Richard Mille

Hype Malaysia16-05-2025
When it comes to the world of watches, there's luxurious, and then there's downright divine.
From low-key releases for a select few, to spotlight-stealing crown jewels – you'll find that the extravagant watches highlighted here aren't just accessories, but otherworldly creations meant to take your outfit to the next level.
H. Moser & Cie.'s Streamliner Skeleton Rainbow
H. Moser & Cie. are back to unleash another colourful creation that's sure to make even a rainbow blush.
Introducing the Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow!
Precious stones are not typically used by Moser in their watches. This new model, however, shows a conscious decision to highlight the movement's beauty, balance, and even overall minimalism through the use of brilliance.
As a result, the watch successfully combines watchmaking skills with jewellery artistry.
Featuring steel or 5N red gold, this timepiece has 60 vividly-coloured baguette-cut sapphires. The stones are subtly positioned in the centre of the case in a dual gradient; one gradient mimics the rainbow's colours, while the other highlights the Streamliner 40mm cushion-shaped case.
The fully-skeletonised HMC 814 movement, which is fully visible through the watch's face, is also aesthetically enhanced by the gemstones.
The Streamliner Tourbillon Skeleton Rainbow is available for enquiries now. You can also reserve a unit for yourself for CHF159,000 (~RM814,703) at H. Moser & Cie.'s official website.
Richard Mille's RM72-01 'Charles Leclerc' Edition
Charles Leclerc, a Ferrari F1 driver and long-time brand ambassador, helped Richard Mille discreetly unveil their newest limited-edition watch.
Inspired by the Monégasque driver's signature colours and racing heritage, the brand's automatic flyback chronograph has been boldly reinterpreted in the new RM72-01 'Charles Leclerc.'
Honouring the Monegasque flag, the watch is finished in white Quartz TPT with eye-catching red stripes. The red-and-white motif is maintained by a skeletonised dial that highlights chronograph counters with racing influences while removing hour numerals.
The date window is framed in red and white, and the black crown mimics the twisting motion of a high-torque Formula One tyre.
The watch, which is powered by the CRMC-1 calibre, has a 50-hour power reserve, a function selector, and a flyback chronograph with 30-minute and 24-hour counters.
With a platinum rotor and ceramic bearings for high-efficiency winding, it operates at 28,800 vph.
Although the release was just confirmed, Leclerc has been wearing the 38.4mm x 47.34mm watch for weeks. The RM72-01 'Charles Leclerc,' which is limited to just 150 pieces and costs US$330,000 (~RM1,407,777), is reportedly already being delivered to a few chosen clients. Richard Mille and Ferrari blend horological and automotive design in new watch

In a bold evolution of a timepiece that is not only a technical wonder but a celebration of shared values and synergy, emerges the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari, a result of the collaboration of two powerhouses. An extraordinary blend of horological and automotive design by Richard Mille and Ferrari, the watch is a showcase of beauty, offering uncompromising performance. The heart of the RM 43-01 calibre Engineered from ground up over a three-year development process, the RM 43-01 calibre is exceptionally lightweight and strong. Its intricate architecture rests on a highly skeletonised grade 5 titanium baseplate and its engine supported by bridges produced from both titanium and Carbon TPT. It delivers 70 hours of power reserve indicated at 2 o'clock on a 5N PVD titanium dial. Front view of the RM 43-01 Ferrari titanium. The quality of this energy is also visible through a second dial via the torque indicator. The last indicator for the selected function completes this dashboard. The tourbillon escapement with a titanium carriage brings notable kineticism to the watch, enhanced by an innovative active seconds display that uses five radial blades read against a 12-second index. Extensive R&D Designed in collaboration with Richard Mille's long-time partner Audemars Piguet Le Locle (APLL), the RM 43-01 calibre brings multiple refinements to the split-seconds mechanism. Through intensive R&D and computer simulations, a new generation of components has been developed to optimise power consumption while delivering more consistent torque levels throughout the power reserve. From micro-components to material selection, every element of the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari was considered with performance in mind as with any Ferrari automobile. Considering how every single design decision can impact the integrity and technical capability of a given part, extensive shock testing, simulations and deep research were conducted to ensure that every part met Richard Mille's uncompromising standards. The 'control panel' of the RM 43-01. 'Our work as movement manufacturers is becoming increasingly scientific, and this helps us create components that are even more durable whilst delivering even better performance,' says Richard Mille movement technical director Salvador Arbona. A key emphasis was placed on enhancing the three-dimensional effect of the movement design, using a variety of surface treatments, finishes and contrasting details inspired by the complex geometries of Ferrari engine blocks and crankcases. The metallic finish of the baseplate echoes the industrial precision of sandcast engine components, while microblasted bridges recall the toughened matt surface of Ferrari engine covers. Angular structures adorned with raised ridges, contrasting tonalities, and tiny X-shaped supports interspersed with golden hexagonal socket-head screws are a direct nod to the patterns, parts and extruded details found on Ferrari engine blocks and crankcases. On the front, the clutch wheel of a V8 engine informs the design of the barrel jewel setting, while dynamic, angular exterior details of cars like the 488 Challenge Evo, the Daytona SP3 and the SF90 Stradale inform elements of the case styling, pushers and indexes. As with the tachometer that dominates a modern Ferrari dashboard, the skeletonised 30-minute totaliser stands out in the dial – the dramatic three-dimensional lynchpin of the chassis layout. Zooming in on the RM 43-01 movement. For this limited edition of only 150 pieces, as many as 10 prototypes were developed before the final version, reflecting the brand's extreme standards. Richard Mille casing technical director Julien Boillat says, 'The team from Ferrari worked very closely with our experts for two years on this new project. 'When we design a watch, we find new ways to increase the performance and to discover new materials that can further improve durability. 'It was incredibly stimulating to have Ferrari as our co-pilots on this adventure.' Second collaboration The collaboration between Richard Mille and Ferrari began in 2021, uniting two engineering powerhouses, each driven by the unwavering pursuit of technical innovation, landmark design, and peerless performance. In 2022, this alliance delivered its first masterpiece, the RM UP-01 Ultraflat Ferrari – a watch just 1.75mm thick – stunning industry observers and fans from both brands. Now, the second creation from this partnership reinvents Richard Mille's most complex high-complication format, the tourbillon split-second chronograph, through a dynamic creative exchange between Maranello and Les Breuleux to create the RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari. 'A collaboration like this is as much predicated on similarities in values as it is on the visual similarities between a Ferrari engine or a component, and the elements used in a watch,' says Ferrari chief design officer Flavio Manzoni. 'In terms of performance, anything that has a technical purpose can also be beautiful. 'The concept of functional beauty is something that we really love.' Thanks to the deep creative and technical exchange between Richard Mille and Ferrari, the RM 43-01 weaves together a subtle but dynamic array of visual and technical elements that take their cue from the automotive brand's unparalleled technological universe. Two personalities The RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari is limited to 75 pieces in microblasted and polished grade 5 titanium with a Carbon TPT caseband; and 75 in Carbon TPT, a lightweight and durable thin-ply composite used exclusively for Richard Mille. 'We have two cases to express two distinct personalities: a 'gentleman driver' ethos for the titanium case, and a more high-octane attitude in the carbon version,' says Boillat. Ferrari's Centro Stile played an instrumental role in designing various key elements of the watch, from the general aesthetic to the details such as the crown, hands and the strap featuring the pattern of the Purosangue seats, all representative of their stylistic influence. The space deliberately left open during the development of the movement is filled with a titanium plate laser-engraved with the Prancing Horse logo, which shape is inspired by the rear wing of the 499P. Microblasted and satin-finished with polished bevels, it demonstrates the brand's level of expertise apparent throughout the calibre. The RM 43-01 Tourbillon Split-Seconds Chronograph Ferrari is a true homage to Ferrari's legacy, blending iconic design and unparalleled performance. The pinnacle of horological and automotive synergy, it demonstrates that it is possible for aesthetics to meet function as passion drives innovation.

Motor racing-Mekies warns of big challenges as he starts work at Red Bull

Formula One F1 - Austrian Grand Prix - Red Bull Ring, Spielberg, Austria - June 27, 2025 RB team principal Laurent Mekies during the press conference REUTERS/Gintare Karpaviciute/File Photo LONDON (Reuters) -Frenchman Laurent Mekies got down to work as Red Bull team principal on Thursday, a day after replacing Christian Horner, and recognised big challenges ahead for the once-dominant former champions. The Formula One team released a video interview after a filming day with the current RB21 car at Silverstone, with Mekies meeting staff and doing plenty of hand-shaking. Horner, who had been in position for 20 years during which time Red Bull won eight drivers' titles and six constructors' championships, was fired on Wednesday. "I still look at these guys as most people outside of the team look at them... we see the very best people in the world at what they do," Mekies said in a Q+A put together by the Red Bull press office. "It's a privilege to join the team... the focus will really be at making sure that all the talented people here have what they need to perform at their best because they are already the very best," he added. "We are not underestimating the challenge ahead. Formula One is going to face probably the biggest challenge of regulation in its history... so its going to be an incredible challenge and we will need everyone." Red Bull are building their own power unit for 2026 when they will take on major manufacturers Mercedes, Honda and Ferrari. While Mekies hailed his team as the best, Red Bull are only fourth overall and have won two of 12 races so far this season. Four-times world champion Max Verstappen is 69 points behind McLaren's Oscar Piastri. Verstappen's future remains uncertain, despite a contract until 2028, with Mercedes and Aston Martin keen to secure his services. Mekies, 48, has a track record in F1 dating back to 2001 with now-defunct Arrows when Verstappen's father Jos was one of the drivers. He subsequently worked with Minardi, who became Red Bull-owned Toro Rosso and are now Racing Bulls. The Frenchman also spent four years at the governing FIA as safety director and deputy race director. He was sporting director at Ferrari from 2018 and then deputy principal before leaving in 2023 and returning the following year to Racing Bulls as principal. As Mekies began work, the sport assessed the fallout of Horner's departure and what it might mean for him and Verstappen. Former F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone, who is close to Horner, told Reuters he had been as surprised as anyone when his compatriot told him the news. Horner had a contract until 2030, according to reports, and told staff on Wednesday that he would remain employed by the company. That suggested a long period of well-paid 'gardening leave' before being able to go anywhere else, and Ecclestone said he would be surprised if Horner knew what the future held. "What he's going to do with the rest of his life, difficult to know. I very much doubt he knows what he's going to do," he said. (Reporting by Alan Baldwin, editing by Clare Fallon)
