Six Flags Great America, Hurricane Harbor in Gurnee bringing back chaperone policy this week
The policy requires guests aged 15 and under to be escorted by a parent, guardian, or adult aged 21 or older.
The policy will be in effect all day from July 17 to 20, and then from 5 p.m. until close after that through the end of the season. The park said it could also implement the policy starting earlier in the day as they need to.
Chaperones must have a valid government-issued photo ID with their date of birth at ticket entry. One adult cannot accompany more than 10 guests 15 years old or under, and they must remain in the park and stick with their party.
Guests 16 and older must also show a government photo ID. If not, they will be denied entry.
Guests 15 and under without a chaperone will be removed from the park during chaperone hours.
In a notice to parents and guardians, the park said, "Parents or guardians are responsible for the behavior of their minor children. Appropriate behavior and supervision are the responsibility of the parent/guardian and is always expected."
The reinstatement of the policy comes a week after shots were fired in the parking lot of Six Flags Great America. Police said their preliminary investigation found there may have been a fight before someone opened fire. Police said they were not able to find anyone who had been struck by the gunfire.
In August 2022, two people, a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old woman, were wounded in a shooting in the front entrance parking lot of the amusement park.
The park said the chaperone requirement applies to all one-day ticket holders, season pass holders, and members.

Family releases balloons in honor of woman fatally stabbed at Eastpointe McDonald's restaurant
Hundreds of people gathered on Monday afternoon outside of the McDonald's in Eastpointe, Michigan, to remember 39-year-old Jennifer Harris, who was stabbed to death by a coworker last week. Who was allegedly stabbed to death while on the job at the McDonald's as a manager of the restaurant by a disgruntled employee. "It hurts so bad that my mama is not here," said Harris's second eldest daughter, Anttenisha Griffin. Harris was a mother of six children, each of them now heartbroken that their mother is no longer with them. "I just got to be strong and just think, this is what my mama would want me to do. This is what my mama would want me to do. My mama would want me to be here for my siblings," Harris's eldest daughter, Antonia Griffin. The family's pastor, along with the McDonald's franchise owner, also spoke, reassuring the family and the community that Harris's children will be taken care of. "We have established the official Jennifer Harris legacy fund, which will serve as a trust dedicated exclusively to support the children for basic life expenses, from housing to food and transportation to their education," said franchise owner Yusef Alcodray. The suspect, 26-year-old Afeni Badu Muhammad, is scheduled to return to court for a probable cause conference next Wednesday, and her preliminary examination is scheduled for July 30. Muhammad is charged with first-degree premeditated murder and carrying a dangerous weapon with unlawful intent. The murder charge carries a mandatory life in prison sentence without parole. The weapon charge is a five-year felony.

Attorneys ask for release of former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan as they appeal conviction
The legal team for former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan asked a judge Monday for his release as they appeal his conviction. Last month, Madigan was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison, following his conviction on bribery, conspiracy, and fraud charges. Madigan was also ordered to pay a $2.5 million fine. In a new court filing, Madigan's attorneys said they plan to appeal over several factors — including erroneous jury instructions and insufficient evidence. The filing was not a surprise, with an appeal expected. But so far, there has been no ruling from the judge.

Unreleased Beyonce music stolen from car in Atlanta
Computer drives containing unreleased music by US superstar Beyonce Knowles and plans related to her concerts were stolen last week in Atlanta, police said Monday, with a suspect still at large. The items were stolen from a rental car used by Knowles's choreographer and a dancer on July 8, two days before the pop icon kicked off the Atlanta leg of her "Cowboy Carter" Tour, a police incident report said. Choreographer Christopher Grant, 37, told police that he returned to the car to find its rear-window smashed and their luggage stolen. Inside were multiple jump drives that "contained water marked music, some un-released music, footage plans for the show, and past and future set list (sic)," the report said. Also missing were an Apple MacBook, headphones and several items of luxury clothing. Police investigated an area where the MacBook and headphones had pinged their location, but the report did not mention any items being recovered. Atlanta Police said in an online statement that a warrant had been issued for an unnamed suspect's arrest, but that the suspect remained at large. Knowles ends her four-night stint in Atlanta on Monday and then wraps up the "Cowboy Carter" tour in late July in Las Vegas. The tour kicked off in April after the global superstar took home her first "Album of the Year" Grammy for the country-themed album. des/sla
