Maharashtra reverses order allowing homeopaths to practise allopathy
MUMBAI: The state government took a step back on its decision to allow homeopaths to prescribe modern medicine by setting up a 7-member committee that will decide on the matter within two months.
Interestingly, neither the homeopaths nor doctors with the Indian Medical Association (IMA) have said they will accept the committee's decision if it is not in their favour.
The committee includes officials from the medical education department, AYUSH directorates, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, and registrars from both the modern medicine and homeopathy councils.
IMA (Maharashtra) head, Santosh Kadam, said the case challenges the root cause of the problem - the 2014 amendment to the Maharashtra Homoeopathic Practitioners Act and the Maharashtra Medical Council Act of 1965, which are still pending before Bombay HC.
"While the committee can study the subject matter, their decision will not be accepted if it is against public interest. The court's decision will be final for us.
We have faith in the judiciary," he said.

Maharashtra Homeopathic Council administrator, Bahubali Shah, said, "There is no faith in the committee set up as no homeopath is on it; they have put a clerk instead."
For the past 10 days, the medical community was anxious over allowing homeopaths to practice modern medicine based on a one-year pharmacology course, as it could pose serious risks to public health.

Homeopathy doctors begin stir across state
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Homeopathic doctors from across Maharashtra launched a state-level agitation on Wednesday, demanding registration with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) for practitioners who have completed a bridge course. This comes after state govt reportedly put the registration process on hold due to objections from the Indian Medical Association (IMA). Dr Prakash Zambad, regional vice-president of the Homeopathy Integrated Medical Practitioners Association Maharashtra (HIMPAM), said that while a significant number of doctors staged a sit-in protest in Mumbai on Monday, over 90,000 homeopathic doctors statewide observed a day-long closure of their hospitals on Wednesday. "The necessary registration was scheduled to begin from July 15, but it is now put on hold by state govt for the next two months after the Indian Medical Association (IMA) objected to the move," Zambad said. He urged the government not to "succumb to the IMA pressure and resume the registration." The core of the dispute revolves around the Certificate Course in Modern Pharmacology (CCMP). Doctors' associations across Telangana have condemned Manakondur MLA Kavvampally Satyanarayana's statements after a video surfaced showing the legislator endorsing unqualified medical practitioners during a meeting. In the video, the MLA not only defended the illegal practices of these practitioners but also appeared to pressure officials questioning their actions. The controversy erupted after the MLA participated in a gathering with rural medical practitioners (RMPs), who are not legally certified to practice modern medicine. During the meeting, Mr. Satyanarayana lauded their role in villages, claiming that they save people's money by providing basic treatment and even minor surgical intervention. He said, 'In earlier days, people without medical qualifications have done a lot of service to people.' To these remarks, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) Telangana Junior Doctors' Network issued a response, stating, 'Such statements are not only misleading and medically unethical but also pose a direct threat to public health, especially in rural and underserved regions. At a time when the medical fraternity is working to improve healthcare delivery and public trust, these remarks undermine both the law and the efforts of qualified professionals.' Echoing similar sentiments, the Telangana Hospitals and Nursing Homes Association (THANA) called the remarks shocking and highly irresponsible, especially coming from someone who belongs to the medical fraternity. Officials urged to promote ayurveda
Kanpur: District magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh on Tuesday made a surprise visit at the fifty bed Ayurvedic hospital of Nigoha and expressed his satisfaction over the prevailing treatment system there. He inspected the entire hospital including pathology and OPD, and directed the staff to maintain cleanliness of the hospital. Dr. Rachna Tripathi, working in the hospital, informed the district magistrate that many incurable diseases were treated in this hospital through Ayurvedic, natural and Panchakarma methods. She informed that till so far incurable diseases of about 200 patients had been successfully While praising the hospital's system, medical practices and cleanliness system, the DM directed that public participation should be increased to make the general public aware of the Ayush medical system. Besides this, he also instructed the officials concerned to spread awareness in every village. The district magistrate thereafter inspected another 50 bed Ayush Hospital located in Dilip Nagar area where many patients who did not get any benefit from allopathic treatment got relief. Singh said that if such hospitals were run properly and the public was made aware of them then it could emerge as a strong option as an alternative medical system. He asked the officials to become more active in this direction.
