Virginia Tech Football Preview 2025: Hokies Season Prediction, Win Total Projection, Top Players
Virginia Tech Hokies Key to the Season
Block someone. We did this already in the offensive section, but it really is everything. The Hokies struggled way too much to consistently get the passing game going, the third-down conversions weren't there, and the time of possession battle wasn't a plus. That all came from the problems with pass protection and tackles for loss allowed. So ...

Virginia Tech Hokies Key Player
Lucas Austin, OT RFr.Of someone to dominate at a tackle spot. Xavier Chaplin was one of the top players in the transfer portal - more on that in a moment - and he needs to be replaced at left tackle. It'll take fall camp to figure it out, but if Austin plays like he's supposed to after coming over from West Virginia, this becomes a far easier puzzle to put together, helped by ...
Virginia Tech Hokies Top Transfer, Biggest Transfer Loss
Top Transfer In: Thomas Rimac, OG Sr.To be way too basic about it, Virginia Tech horked a slew of good West Virginia linemen who took off rather than be a part of the Rich Rodriguez offensive style. Also, the Hokies had an offensive line that needed fixing. The 6-6, 317-pound Rimac is a two-time All-Big 12 Honorable Mention guard who'll step right in.Top Transfer Out: Xavier Chaplin, OT Sr.It was sort of an odd thing. The Virginia Tech pass protection wasn't good, the running game wasn't strong enough, but the line had a few star talents to work around. The 6-7, 338-pound Chaplin was an all-star at left tackle with the NFL size and skills. Now he'll be a key part of the Auburn offense.
Virginia Tech Hokies Key Game
at North Carolina State, Sept. 27Virginia Tech beat NC State 11-6 early in the 1902 season, and overall, it's been able to take its share of wins, but the Wolfpack have won the last two in 2022 and 2023. This year it's the ACC opener, and with nasty road games ahead against Georgia Tech and Florida State, picking off an away date right away is a must.- 2025 Virginia Tech Schedule Breakdown

Virginia Tech Hokies 2025 Season Prediction, Win Total, What Will Happen
It's not a totally unmanageable schedule, but it'll take several big breaks to come up with something big.Clemson, SMU, Pitt, and a don't-laugh-but-really nasty Duke off the slate. It's not right in any way that the Wolfpack don't play North Caroline, but that's for another time. The Hokies also miss the Notre Dame part-time ACC thing, too.And if Florida State and NC State play like they did last season, the road games are a relative breeze with three of the four in the ACC against teams that finished with losing records, and the other against Georgia Tech.
But NC State will be better, and so will Florida State. However, the Hokies only leave Virginia once after October 11th, the opener against South Carolina is in Atlanta, the Vanderbilt game is at home, and there isn't any one date on the slate that's a 100% sure-thing no-chance loss.At least for now, though, there are too many 50/50 games that lean loss. It'll be a bowl season, but everything has to work perfectly for anything more.Set The Virginia Tech Win Total At … 6.5Likely Wins: Old Dominion, Wofford50/50 Games: Cal, at Florida State, at Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, at NC State, South Carolina (in Atlanta), Vanderbilt, at Virginia, Wake ForestLikely Losses: No Projected Sure-Thing Losses 2025 Virginia Tech PreviewVirginia Tech Offense BreakdownVirginia Tech Defense Breakdown

Report: James Harden gets new 2-year, $81.5M deal with Clippers
James Harden declined his player option in order to sign a new two-year contract with the Los Angeles Clippers worth $81.5 million, ESPN reported Sunday. The 11-time All-Star guard will return to the Clippers after spending the past two seasons there. The second year of the new pact reportedly has a player option and partial guarantees. Harden, who turns 36 before next season begins, played 79 games (all starts) for Los Angeles in 2024-25 and averaged 22.8 points, 8.7 assists and 5.7 rebounds, though his 3-point shooting ticked down from 38.1 percent the year before to 35.2 percent. He was named to the All-NBA third team, his first All-NBA honor since 2019-20. Harden also put up 18.7 points, 9.1 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game during the Clippers' seven-game playoff loss to the Denver Nuggets in the first round. The Clippers were the fifth seed in the Western Conference but will strive for better postseason results with Harden at the center of their plans. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved

'Outrageous' Phillies Trade Idea Brings $100 Million All-Star to Philadelphia
The Philadelphia Phillies are in a tight race at the top of the National League East with the New York Mets. The Phillies could look to make a blockbuster trade in order to address their need in the outfield and better their chances of winning the division. Nick Castellanos has been a consistent producer for the Phillies at the plate this year. Brandon Marsh is starting to play better as well. However, Max Kepler and Johan Rojas are both replaceable. In what could be a rather weak trade deadline for buyers, Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller proposed this "outrageous" trade that would bring Byron Buxton from the Minnesota Twins to the Phillies. Phillies receive: OF Byron Buxton Twins receive: RHP Mick Abel (Phillies No. 5 prospect) and C Alirio Ferrebus (Phillies No. 26 prospect) CINCINNATI, OHIO - JUNE 19: Byron Buxton #25 of the Minnesota Twins celebrates after hitting a solo home run in the first inning of the game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park... CINCINNATI, OHIO - JUNE 19: Byron Buxton #25 of the Minnesota Twins celebrates after hitting a solo home run in the first inning of the game against the Cincinnati Reds at Great American Ball Park on June 19, 2025 in Cincinnati, Ohio. More LaurenAbel is already in the big leagues and has shown he can be a good player in the rotation. However, when Aaron Nola returns from the injured list, there may not be a spot for Abel to help the Phillies this year. Trading him would still be a risky and aggressive move. However, the Phillies have their top prospect, Andrew Painter, in Triple-A, and he could still be a key player in their rotation in the future. Buxton is an All-Star and Platinum Glove Award winner. He is signed to a seven-year, $100 million deal through 2028. He is slashing .286/.352/.575 with 19 home runs this year. He could be a bigger help to the Phillies this season than Abel down the stretch. Buxton would also bring stability to an outfield that could lose Castellanos after next season, but the Twins are still in position to make a postseason run. However, if they think the chances are slim, they could be open to adding a player like Abel in exchange for Buxton, who could be a key part of their rotation for years to come. Buxton has dealt with injuries throughout his career, and the Twins may be ready to move on from his $100 million contract. Blazers C Deandre Ayton to be free agent after buyout
The Portland Trail Blazers have reached an agreement to buy out the final year of Deandre Ayton's contract and have requested waivers on him, making the center a free agent, the team announced late Sunday night. Ayton, 26, is owed $35 million for the coming season to complete a four-year, $132 million contract that he had signed while with the Phoenix Suns, according to multiple media reports. Instead, he will hit free agency on Monday and be in much higher demand than in Portland, which picked centers Donovan Clingan (No. 7 in 2024) and Yang Hansen (No. 16 in 2025) in the first round of the two most recent drafts and also has veteran Robert Williams III. Ayton averaged 14.4 points, 10.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks in 40 games (all starts) last season, his second with Portland that was shortened by a season-ending left calf injury. He is averaging for his career 16.4 points, 10.5 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.0 blocks in 398 regular-season games (391 starts) for the Phoenix Suns (2018-23) and Blazers. He was third in NBA Rookie of the Year voting in the 2018-19 season, when he made the All-Rookie first team. The Suns selected Ayton with the first overall pick of the 2018 NBA Draft out of the University of Arizona. Portland acquired him as part of a three-team trade with Milwaukee and Phoenix that sent All-Star guard Damian Lillard from the Trail Blazers to the Bucks on Sept. 27, 2023. ESPN first reported news of the buyout on Sunday night. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2023 - All Rights Reserved
