Modi takes aim at Pak
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quite vivid while spelling out his government's stance in his address to the nation post-Pahalgam and Operation-Sindoor. In a lively speech, Modi delved into the ceasefire deal but maintained a stoic silence on Donald Trump's claims vis-à-vis the ceasefire. Modi's assertion that every future terror act instigated by Pakistan would be retaliated against, makes for a strong warning to the wayward neighbour. However, the attempt by US President Donald Trump to make Kashmir an international issue cannot escape the discerning people.
I expected Modi to make it quite clear that India does not brook third party involvement, but he perhaps felt that silence on it was the best thing in the given circumstances. He did mention that India will talk with Pakistan on only two issues-PoK and terrorism.! Though Modi was emphatic in his warnings, the neighbour seems bent on creating tensions across the LoC, even as some of its senior officials are spilling the beans about Pakistan harbouring terror outfits on its soil, clearly exposing Pakistan's dubious role as far as terrorism is concerned. Even then the UNO cannot declare it as a rogue nation, because China, its present mentor, would veto any such resolution.

No end to Thackeray family drama
Amid speculation over Thackeray cousins Uddhav and Raj coming together for an alliance, a section of leaders in the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar) are hoping for a patch-up between the estranged Pawars. This comes after frequent meetings between party chief Sharad Pawar and his rebel nephew Ajit, who had broken away from the parent party in 2023. However, talks of any possible merger have been publicly downplayed by Pawar and NCP (SP) national working president Supriya Sule.
Reportedly four MLAs opine that the two factions should come together and be part of the state's ruling Mahayuti alliance. These MLAs have been pressuring Pawar for quite some time and he has stated the decision to join hands with Ajit would be 'left to the next generation'. He admitted to there being two opinions within the party. One section believes that if work in constituencies needs to be done, then NCP should reunite, while another section believes the NCP (SP) should not come together with Ajit Pawar's faction. Meanwhile, Supriya Sule has made it clear that she would follow her father's decision and sit in the Opposition.

Appointing ICs is a welcome development
In a good development, albeit belated, the Telangana government has finally made CIC office functional by appointing four Information Commissioners (ICs). Appeals for ICs have been pending for more than two years, virtually making RTI dysfunctional in the state.
It is appalling that it required the Supreme Court to direct states to appoint Information Commissioners and make RTI functional. It would be appropriate if the TG government takes steps to allow complaints/appeal requests in online mode, to make information easily accessible.

UAE's investment in Unnao is a fine move
The proposed $461 million investment by UAE-based Aquabridge Holdings in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, is a promising step toward regional development. This initiative will generate employment, boost aquaculture and deepen India-UAE ties. However, such projects must align with environmental norms and benefit local communities directly.
The government should ensure transparency, monitor ecological impact, and involve locals in planning. Skill development programs for youth must be included so that the local workforce benefits from this opportunity. If implemented responsibly, this investment can make Unnao a model of sustainable rural development. Foreign investments should enhance both economic growth and social welfare. I urge the authorities to facilitate this project with strict oversight and inclusive policies.

Will miss Kohli's theatrics
The news that Virat Kohli had informed the BCCI about his decision to retire from Test cricket has sent shockwaves. He isn't as aged as some of the legends, who continued to play even past their prime. Unfortunately, Kohli missed out on being a member of the exalted 10,000 Test runs league. His only regret must be in missing out on the 10,000 runs tally
There is no doubt that Kohli is among the greatest ambassadors of Test cricket in the modern era. His hunger for going for a win rather than a boring draw made him a class apart. From now onwards the number 18 jersey would not be seen on the ground. The spectators will miss Kohli's display of anger, the way he sent flying kisses to his wife, dancing before cameras and push-ups.

How to stop deadly US bunker buster bomb? Scientist from this country proposes solution, bad news for Trump due to...

US President Donald Trump Beijing: The United States' bunker-buster bombs have reportedly raised concerns in China. These are the same powerful weapons the U.S. previously used to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. It is important to note that the US's precision-guided bunker-buster bombs fly at a slow speed after being launched but carry massive warheads encased in thick armor. Chinese scientists have now claimed they have found a way to counter these American bunker-busters which doesn't require any sophisticated technology. Chinese President Xi Jinping is reportedly pleased with their suggestion. When US B-2 stealth bombers attacked Iran's nuclear facilities using GBU-57 MOP (Massive Ordnance Penetrator) bunker-buster bombs, there was reportedly minimal resistance. Chinese scientists, proposing a way to stop these bombs, said that the target country should strike the bomb's weak spots. While the front armor of the bomb is thick, its steel edges are relatively thin — only a few centimeters thick — which means one or two anti-aircraft shells could penetrate and neutralize the bomb. Here are some of the key details: Low-cost anti-aircraft guns can be deployed around key installations. These guns must remain operational, be able to track radar, and withstand electronic warfare. Instead of using China's own weapons, the simulation used the Swiss Oerlikon GDF gun, which is widely used in the Middle East, including Iran. The GDF fires 36 rounds in just two seconds. At a distance of 1,200 meters (0.7 miles), its strike accuracy reaches 42 percent. The method was published on April 14 in Journal of Gun Launch and Control, one of China's top weapons journals, by a team led by researcher Cui Jingyi from the Northwest Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, part of Chinese weapons manufacturer Norinco.

Rohit Pawar's Swipe At NCP As Agriculture Minister Caught Playing Rummy In Assembly

Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) leader Rohit Pawar on Sunday took a swipe at the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), saying it is unable to function without consulting its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in the Maharashtra government. Mr Rohit, who is the grand nephew of NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar, made the remarks as he shared a video of state agriculture minister Manikrao Kokate playing rummy in what appears to be during the session of the legislative assembly. In a post in Marathi on X, he said: "Since the Nationalist faction in power cannot do anything without consulting the BJP, even with countless agricultural issues pending and 8 farmers committing suicide daily in the state, the Agriculture Minister, with nothing else to do, seems to have time to play rummy." He added: "Will these misguided ministers and the government ever hear the desperate plea of farmers demanding crop insurance, loan waivers, and price support: 'Come to the fields of poor farmers sometimes, Maharaj'?" — Rohit Pawar (@RRPSpeaks) July 20, 2025 There was no immediate reaction either from Mr Kokate, the NCP or the BJP. Mr Rohit's remarks also came two days after state NCP chief and party MP Sunil Tatkare submission's that BJP needs to be consulted for the two factions of the NCP to reunite. The Ajit Pawar-led NCP joined hands with the ruling BJP in Maharashtra in July 2023. "There is no discussion on unification even within our core group. Even when such a situation arises and time comes to come together, we will have to talk to the central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party, because the top leadership of BJP took us with them. Consulting them is natural," Mr Tatkare told reporters. Thousands of farmers have been impacted, especially in the Vidarbha region, due to widespread floods. Earlier this week, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Mahayuti government is committed to give a loan waiver to farmers. "A loan waiver is a short-term measure. We have set up a committee to suggest long-term solutions to resolve agriculture stress and bring farmers out of debt," he said.

Maharashtra minister Manikrao Kokate found playing rummy in Assembly, Opposition calls it ‘insult to democracy'

Maharashtra Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate found himself in the eye of a storm Sunday after a purported video of him playing Junglee Rummy, an online card game, on his phone in the Legislative Assembly was put out on social media by Nationalist Congress Party (SP) leader Rohit Pawar. Sharing the video, Pawar said, 'NCP (led by Ajit Pawar), cannot do anything without consulting the BJP. And therefore, when scores of farm issues are pending and every day eight farmers are ending their lives in Maharashtra, the agriculture minister does not seem to have any work and is spending time playing rummy.' Kokate is an MLA of the NCP faction led by Ajit Pawar from the Sinnar Assembly constituency. Reacting to the video, BJP leader Sudhir Mungantiwar said, 'There is no law under which action can be taken against minister Kokate. At best, he will be warned… I had told Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to make a law against such activities, but he said the right is with the Central government.' Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Kishori Pednekar said, 'This is not the first time minister Kokate has been caught on the wrong foot. Earlier, too, he was found making irresponsible statements. The way he is behaving is nothing but an insult to democracy.' Pednekar said, 'There was a time when MLAs were held in high esteem but today they are stooping low every day.' NCP (SP) MLA Jitendra Awhad said, 'Where is he playing rummy? He is playing right in the state legislature. Kokate is a minister, but he has not replied to even one poser in the House. The minister is found playing Junglee Rummy, which has destroyed several families in Maharashtra. These ministers have no shame and have no respect for the State legislature. Now I want to see how Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar will react. I am curious what he will do.' In the Karnataka Assembly, when some members were found watching their cellphones, they were made to sit at home, said Awhad. Awhad said if the ministers were genuinely concerned about farmers' issues, they would not be behaving as they currently are. 'The state legislature is a temple of democracy, and yet look at how they are acting in this temple,' he said. Shiv Sena (UBT) spokesperson Sanjay Raut said, 'There are four ministers whom Union Home Minister Amit Shah wants out, one of the ministers is Kokate.'
