Raja Raghuvanshi's family accuses Sonam's brother Govind of double game after leaked call claim
Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in her husband's murder, is currently lodged in Shillong Jail.
However, Raja's family claimed that Sonam has spoken to her family four times already. According to a report in Amar Ujala, Vipin alleged that Govind was pretending to be sympathetic with the family while he and his parents were helping Sonam.
The family talks to Sonam on call, Vipin further added. As per the jail manual cited by the Hindi daily, inmates are permitted only one phone call per week.
Govind had previously appeared publicly with Raja's family and had strongly condemned Sonam's conduct. A notable moment of unity between the two families was seen during Raja's last rites, where Govind, the brother of the prime accused, was seen standing alongside the victim's family.
After attending the 'pind daan' ceremony on the banks of the Kshipra river in Ujjain, Govind had said, 'I have come with Raja's family to perform his last rites… they are like my brother's family.' When asked about Sonam, he had remarked, 'If she is found guilty, she should be given the death penalty.'
Raja's brother Vipin confirmed Govind's participation in the ritual, saying, 'We told him he could come. It was his sister's mistake, after all,' Live Hindustan reported.
The 'pind daan' was performed by Raja's brothers Sachin and Vipin.
Family seeks CBI probe citing phone leak
Vipin Raghuvanshi had reportedly demanded that the case be transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), citing a leaked phone conversation allegedly involving Sonam. The audio clip, the family claims, hints at a larger conspiracy in the murder, as per a report in Live Hindustan.
'The family claimed they had no communication with Sonam, but that turned out to be false. Sonam has spoken four or five times. I believe Sonam and Govind have been talking for the past four weeks. The entire family is in on it. They've hired a lawyer and are actively trying for bail. First Sonam betrayed Raja, and now her brother is betraying all of us,' Vipin Raghuvanshi alleged.
The authenticity of the leaked call has not been independently verified by Hindustan Times.
Meghalaya honeymoon murder case
Raja Raghuvanshi, an Indore-based businessman, married Sonam on May 11. The couple departed for a honeymoon trip to Guwahati and Shillong on May 20 but were reported missing three days later, on May 23. After an extensive search, Raja's body was recovered on June 2 from a deep gorge in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya.
Sonam later surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. She and four other accused — alleged lover Raj Kushwaha, along with Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi — were arrested for conspiring in the murder. All five are currently in judicial custody.

Kerala woman's death: Dubai company ‘shocked' after watching abuse videos, sacks Indian husband
A Dubai-based company, where the husband of a Kerala woman worked, sacked him on Monday after she was found dead in Sharjah on Saturday, Gulf News reported. Athulya Sekhar, an Indian woman from Kerala, found death on Saturday. A senior HR manager of the construction company said the firm issued a letter of termination to Satheesh Sivasankara Pillai, a site engineer with the company, following the death of his wife, Athulya Sekhar. 'We took the action based on the media reports about a case registered against him in Kerala and circumstantial evidence of his violent and abusive behaviour in videos that appeared online,' the manager was quoted by Gulf News as saying. "This is to inform you that your services are hereby terminated with immediate effect for your apparent involvement in your wife's death who took her own life on 19th July, 2025 in Sharjah owing to your violent physical & mental harassment to her which is a criminal offense in UAE, and based on the circumstantial evidences and the clippings of your violent treatment to her as shown by the print & visual media and as reported by the relatives of your wife," the termination letter read. 'We were shocked to see the videos that she had shared with her family, in which he is physically abusing and mentally harassing her,' the news outlet quotes the company as saying. Athulya Sekhar, from Kerala, was found dead in her Sharjah apartment in the UAE early on Saturday, leading the Kerala Police to register a murder case against her husband. Gulf News reported, citing her family, that Athulya's death coincided with her 30th birthday and the first day of a new job. According to the complaint filed by the woman's mother, her husband, Satheesh strangled her, kicked her stomach, and hit her head with a plate between July 18 and 19, leading to her death, India Today reported. Athulya Sekhar was found dead in her flat in Rolla area, according to her sister and brother-in-law living in Sharjah. The death of Athulya, the mother of a 10-year-old girl, has sent fresh shockwaves through the Indian community in the UAE, Gulf News reported. Dowry harassment allegation against husband Athulya's family alleged that she was repeatedly harassed for not bringing enough dowry at the time of their marriage in 2014, despite having given a bike and 43 sovereigns of gold, India Today reported. A case has been registered against Satheesh under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Dowry Prohibition Act, 1961. The woman's family has alleged that she endured years of mental and physical abuse due to persistent dowry demands. Husband denies allegation Speaking to the media from the UAE, Satheesh has denied the allegations, claiming he had no role in Athulya's death. He said he did not believe she would die by suicide and that he, too, was seeking answers. Her father, however, maintained that the circumstances around her death were suspicious. 'I don't believe that my daughter will die by suicide. She shares a very intimate relationship with her daughter. Her death is mysterious. We have to find out what exactly happened to her. He is an alcoholic. He always gets violent. She bore all the torture for her. Earlier also, such issues had happened and a case was filed with the police. We want to know what exactly happened to her,' he said. Her family also released videos showing Athulya with visible injury marks and her husband appearing to lift a plastic stool to hit her. 'We will be visiting the Sharjah Police for completing the formalities of filing the case tomorrow. We are also approaching the Indian Consulate in Dubai,' Gulf News quotes her brother-in-law as saying on Sunday.

Supreme Court's BIG order in custodial torture case in J&K: Orders ₹50 Lakh compensation, CBI probe
The Supreme Court on 21 July ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the alleged torture of a police constable at a Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara in 2023. The top Court also directed immediate arrest of the officers of the J&K police who were responsible for the abuse and ordered the Union Territory administration to pay a compensation of ₹ 50,00,000 to the victim as restitution for the gross violation of his fundamental rights. The bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta said that the accused officials involved in the alleged custodial violence must be arrested within a month. The Appellant Khursheed Ahmed Chauhan, a police constable, had approached the Supreme Court against the High Court's refusal to quash FIR registered against him under Section 309 IPC (attempt to commit suicide). Chauhan alleged that he was subjected to inhuman and degrading torture, including mutilation of his private parts, during a six-day illegal detention from 20 to 26 February 2023, at JIC Kupwara. The SC bench set aside the High Court's decision. In the judgment authored by Justice Mehta, the SC noted that the continuation of the criminal proceedings of an alleged offence under Section 309 IPC would be a travesty of justice and hence quashed the FIR, legal news website LiveLaw said. However, it took strong exception to the custodial violence suffered by the Appellant during the illegal detention, LiveLaw said. Apart from conducting a detailed inquiry about the officers responsible for the abuse, the CBI was also directed to conduct an inquiry into 'systemic issues' prevailing at the JIC in Kupwara. The continuation of the criminal proceedings of an alleged offence under Section 309 IPC would be travesty of justice. The court underscored the need to assess whether structural or institutional failings enabled a climate of impunity that led to the custodial abuse, LiveLaw reported.
