IIT Delhi To Offer BTech In Design, Check Details
Eligibility
Admission to the B.Tech in Design will be based on JEE (Advanced) rankings. In addition, students will also need to clear UCEED (Undergraduate Common Entrance Examination for Design) to qualify for the programme.
What Will Students Learn?
Students will explore a mix of design thinking, technology, teamwork, and communication. The programme will include learning about:

It is a transdisciplinary programme, meaning students will not only study design but also take courses from other departments like engineering, humanities, management, and more. About 50% of the coursework will be from the core design field, while the rest will come from other departments across the institute.

Five students get crore-plus packages
Indore: For the first time, five IIT-I students received annual packages above Rs 1 crore from international firms for domestic positions during the current placement season. Previously, only one IIT-I student received an international package of Rs 1 crore in the last placement season. The placement drive saw participation from approximately 130 companies spanning sectors like IT, automotive, energy, consulting, fintech, banking, semiconductor, and construction. "We have witnessed a stellar placement season this year. The annual packages exceeded Rs 1 crore for the first time in history. Around 88 per cent of the total registered students have been placed to date, and the placement is still going on. Around 12-15 more companies are still to come," said Prof Suhas S. Joshi, Director of IIT Indore. The average package increased by 13 per cent to Rs 27 lakh annually. From the total 813 graduating students, not all register for placements as several choose to pursue higher education whilst others opt for entrepreneurship. In the QS World University Rankings 2026, IIT-I dropped to position 556, moving out of the top 500 institutions, despite an improvement in its overall score from 25.1 to 29.6. "We entered the QS rankings in 2023, and it will take around 5-7 years to stabilise. Our marks are increasing, but ranks are low. This year, we received many national importance projects, and for this reflection to come in the ranking will take at least 2 years. It's a very slow process of institutional development. In five years, our ranking will get stable," said Joshi.

Government Invites Proposals For High-Impact Global Research, Check Details
The Ministry of Education has relaunched the online portal for its flagship Scheme for Promotion of Academic and Research Collaboration (SPARC), enabling year-round submission of joint research proposals. Implemented by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, the scheme is designed to advance high-impact academic partnerships between Indian and global institutions. SPARC aims to transform India's higher education research landscape by promoting international collaboration in solving national and global challenges. The scheme is open to premier Indian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) - including those ranked in the NIRF Top 100, Central Universities, and institutions recognized by the International Nuclear Information System (INIS) - to partner with globally ranked institutions (QS Top 800) from 28 countries. Since its inception, SPARC has facilitated 799 joint research projects with funding of Rs 515.99 crore. The initiative has also led to the filing of 51 patents, with 22 already granted. Research areas span 12 high-priority domains such as artificial intelligence, quantum technologies, medical technology, climate science, semiconductors, and smart cities. The scheme supports a range of collaborative activities including: Long-term visits of international faculty and researchers to Indian institutions Short-term visits by Indian students to top global labs for research training Co-development of specialized courses, books, patents, and demonstrable research outcomes Bilateral workshops held in India to deepen institutional partnerships An annual international conference to showcase research and promote visibility Capacity building through training of researchers and students The relaunch aligns with the G20 Education Working Group's priority of strengthening research and innovation through global collaboration. During India's G20 Presidency, SPARC's goals resonated with the broader commitment to advance open, equitable, and secure scientific cooperation across borders. Key areas of focus include AI, digital transformation, sustainability, and emerging technologies, which were also highlighted in the G20 Leaders' Declaration. In total, SPARC has approved approximately 800 joint proposals across its two phases, positioning it as a significant driver of India's efforts to build a globally connected and innovation-led academic ecosystem. Institutions and researchers interested in participating can access the SPARC portal for detailed guidelines and to submit proposals.

Startup demonstrates delivery of goods by large cargo in Tiruchi school
A large drone with a payload capacity of 6 kg, brought chocolates to a delighted audience of onlookers as it made a sortie during a demonstration organised at a city school on Saturday, heralding the evolution of aerial cargo delivery with a lower carbon footprint. The drone is said to be the largest of its kind in terms of payload capacity, and is launched by Amber Wings, an entity of The ePlane Company, the start-up incubated by the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras. The demonstration was part of the school's 'Role of Engineering in India's Growth and Development' programme. 'The day is not far when Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) drone flights will be technologically enabled to be operated routinely without any fear of security breaches. Once this happens, drone deliveries in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities will become commonplace, because these areas would constitute 'green zones' where they are permitted to fly,' Satyanarayanan R. Chakravarthy, founder of The ePlane Company and professor of Aerospace Engineering, IIT-M, told The Hindu. The academician is co-founder of Agnikul Cosmos. Mr. Chakravarthy said that drone applications in the civilian space for deliveries of essential commodities as well as e-commerce cargo are a growing field, especially in India. The company had debuted the 'Atva' Vertical Take off and Landing (VTOL) drone in 2023, with a 2 kg payload capacity, and 10,000 km of flights. 'This is the first time that we are bringing our larger model out of its laboratory conditions. It is still a prototype that has been in development for the past six months. We are all excited to see it perform well in an open setting,' said Mr. Chakravarthy. At yesterday's demonstration, all eyes were on the drone as it soared high with a speed of 100 km and passed a real bird in the sky without incident. The drone is powered by an onboard battery. Santhanam Vidyalaya chief executive officer K. Chandrasekharan spoke.
