A MUM is urging Brits to be careful buying medicine on holiday - after she nearly died when an over-the-counter anti-sickness tablet left her acting "possessed".
Keira Morrison had been unwell during her family holiday to Salou, Spain, and had been throwing up around 10 times a day.

When Dioralyte didn't improve the 29-year-old's symptoms, her partner Liam Bridgeman, 33, went to a nearby pharmacy and bought her some anti-sickness tablets for 1.90 euro.
Metoclopramide is an anti-sickness medication that is only available on prescription in the UK, however it's available over the counter in Spain.
After two days of taking the tablets, the former hairdresser's jaw suddenly "locked" as they sat in their hotel room - and she soon lost control of her body.
A panicked Keira and Liam went to their hotel manager for help and once they showed him the tablets he offered to drive the couple to a nearby medical centre.
Here the mum-of-two deteriorated quickly and began to act "possessed" - losing control of her arms and legs and her eyes rolling back in her head.
She admits it was so bad she "thought it was the end".
Staff put her on an IV drip while they ordered an ambulance to take her to hospital in Tarragona, where doctors manged to ease her symptoms with an injection.
It has since emerged that the recommended dosage is one 10mg tablet three times a day - but Keira claims the pharmacist had told her to take two of the tablets at once.
This meant she was taking twice the recommended dosage on each occasion.
She is now raising awareness about the terrifying experience online and about the potential risks of adverse reactions to common medications, particularly if more easily available with prescriptions when on holiday.

Keira, from Liverpool, Merseyside, said: "Liam said it was like I was possessed.
"I thought it was the end, I did. It was not a nice experience at all.
"It was like I wasn't in my body, it was like someone had control over my body. That's how I felt and I did feel like I was going to die.
"There were leaflets on the wall and when I was looking at the words, I couldn't see the words. They were going blurry.
"I was pleading with them [the doctors] like, 'please help me.'
"At the point before I had the injection my head was banging off the bed, my eyes were going to the back of my head and flickering. My legs and arms were flying everywhere.

"If I didn't go to hospital when I did I probably would have thrown myself off the balcony because I wanted the feeling to stop that much. I was crying, screaming."
Keira said one of the doctors in the hospital explained that she had a reaction to the tablets.
After spending a night in hospital Keira left the following day because she was due to fly home and she said she thinks she experienced a side effect called tardive dyskinesia.
According to Mind, this is a condition where your face, body or both make sudden, irregular and uncontrollable movements.
This is a known potential side effect of the medication and a 2014 report by the European Medicines Agency's Committee on Medicinal Products for Human Use and recommended restricting the dose to "help minimise the risk of potentially serious neurological adverse effects".

Since returning to the UK, she has been to her doctor to have an allergy test and to have her heart checked as she had been experiencing palpitations.
Keira said: "My doctor did say in the UK you've got to have a prescription to get that medication.
"You can't get that over the counter here. You shouldn't be selling that over the counter.
"It has scared us. We have another holiday booked and we are in talks of cancelling. We're in shock and we can't believe it happened.
"I'll never ever buy anything over the counter again.
"If I ever do go away now I'll make sure I've got my own anti-sickness medication from the UK and it was something I'd had before.
"I can't describe the feeling, it was horrendous. I wouldn't wish it on my own enemy."
Accord, the manufacturer of the tablets, have been contacted for comment.

Ali Eastburn began using GLP-1 drugs in April this year and collapsed in July while travelling by plane to the nuptials - after her appendix burst. Before starting taking the jabs, the 58-year-old weighed 13 stone and had struggled to slim down naturally after going through the menopause. So when a "trusted" doctor suggested she try Ozempic, she began taking a low dose of the prescribed drug. The family of drugs known as GLP-1 RAs were originally developed to treat diabetes, but have been rolled out for weight loss as they were found to suppress patients' appetite. It is worth noting that Ozempic is licensed as a diabetes drug, whereas Wegovy - which uses the same active ingredient semaglutide - is prescribed for weight loss. Ali, from Nashville, Tennessee, US, said: "I was trying to get thin for my son's wedding and I knew I had to do something drastic. "I was desperate to look better. I didn't want to hate the wedding photos for the rest of my life." At first the mum-of-three claims the medication was a "miracle". She began to lose weight every week and only experienced heartburn as a side effect. But when her weight loss plateaued in July, the realtor upped her dosage to hit her target weight for the wedding on July 19. I went on fat jabs but the hair loss was unbelievable so I quit - I'd rather be chubby with hair than skinny and bald It was then that 5ft 4in Ali began to experience heartburn, nausea and "violent" diarrhoea and was rushed to the ER twice. On the flight to Chase's wedding in Orange County, California, on July 15, Ali's appendix ruptured and she was rushed in for emergency surgery when she landed. A shocking image shows the mum collapsed on the floor clutching an ice pack to her stomach. After emergency surgery, Ali was able to attend her son's wedding, but claims she was in pain the whole day. "If you care about your family or people that you love, think about them having to live life without you and think about all you might miss out on. "Being thin is not worth losing your life or your health. "I'd been struggling with my weight for years. I was post-menopause and my whole metabolism just changed and I had tried everything to lose weight. "When I went to see my health care provider, she said I'd benefit from a GLP-1 and I trusted her. "At first, it seemed like a miracle as the weight was just falling off. "[By July 1], I had lost 15lbs and I felt better and I finally felt there was hope. "But when my weight loss plateaued, my health care provider upped my dose so I could get to my goal of losing 20lbs. When my son saw me sitting in the front row, he came over and hugged me for the longest time and we both had a good cry. While I was in the hospital that week, we didn't know I was going to be at the wedding, much less live to tell anyone about it Ali Eastburn "The first week I upped my dose to the highest level I'd been on, the nausea was uncontrollable and I had no desire to eat or drink anything. "The heartburn was at an all-new level and it became painful around the clock. "Eleven days before the wedding I finally went wedding dress shopping and I felt nauseous and sick the entire day. "I was dry heaving and I was fighting the urge to throw up all day. I then had violent diarrhoea for four days. "[On July 15], when we landed at the airport, an ambulance took me straight to the hospital and I was diagnosed with a ruptured appendix. "It was terrifying. Within 15 minutes of leaving the airport I was in a hospital room. What are the other side effects of weight loss jabs? Like any medication, weight loss jabs can have side effects. Common side effects of GLP-1 injections include: Nausea: This is the most commonly reported side effect, especially when first starting the medication. It often decreases over time as your body adjusts. Vomiting: Can occur, often in conjunction with nausea. Diarrhea: Some people experience gastrointestinal upset. Constipation: Some individuals may also experience constipation. Stomach pain or discomfort: Some people may experience abdominal pain or discomfort. Reduced appetite: This is often a desired effect for people using Ozempic for weight loss. Indigestion: Can cause a feeling of bloating or discomfort after eating. Serious side effects can also include: Pancreatitis: In rare cases, Ozempic may increase the risk of inflammation of the pancreas, known as pancreatitis, which can cause severe stomach pain, nausea, and vomiting. Kidney problems: There have been reports of kidney issues, including kidney failure, though this is uncommon. Thyroid tumors: There's a potential increased risk of thyroid cancer, although this risk is based on animal studies. It is not confirmed in humans, but people with a history of thyroid cancer should avoid Ozempic. Vision problems: Rapid changes in blood sugar levels may affect vision, and some people have reported blurry vision when taking Ozempic. Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar): Especially if used with other medications like sulfonylureas or insulin. "After a quick CT scan, the doctor said my appendix had ruptured and they needed to remove it." A burst appendix can be life-threatening. It can happen if appendicitis - swelling and infection of the appendix - is not treated quickly. While there have been reports of people experiencing appendicitis after using weight loss jabs, it is considered to be a rare side effect. Some patients do experience heartburn while taking the drugs, particularly during the initial stages of treatment or after a dosage increase. Nausea tends to be a common side effect of GLP-1s. After having her appendix removed, Ali spent four days in hospital, which saw her miss Chase's rehearsal dinner. Ali said: "I was really upset and when I couldn't go to the dress rehearsal I just cried because I felt it was all my fault and I did this to myself. "I missed all the pre-wedding festivities because I wanted to be thin and it broke my heart. "On the wedding day we went at the very last minute because I was in so much pain. Sitting on a chair was painful and it was hard to walk. "When my son saw me sitting in the front row, he came over and hugged me for the longest time and we both had a good cry. "While I was in the hospital that week, we didn't know I was going to be at the wedding, much less live to tell anyone about it." "We recommend that any patient experiencing side effects while taking GLP receptor agonists including Wegovy, Ozempic or Rybelsus report them to their healthcare provider and via the MHRA Yellow Card scheme: Before losing weight Ali was a US size 12 and by the wedding had dropped down to a US size 10 and weighed 11 stone 7lbs. Now recovered, Ali says she'll never touch weight loss drugs again and is going to lose weight naturally by controlling her portion sizes and exercising regularly. Ali said: "My weight was the last thing on my mind at the wedding. "It was the most beautiful wedding I have ever seen and to see my son marry the woman of his dreams was such a gift. "I didn't care about my size anymore as I was just so proud to be there. "It was hard to stand and do the mother-son dance, but we got through it and I was so grateful. And while most sore throats are harmless and go away on their own, a leading specialist warns not to ignore one that lingers. 'People assume it's just an infection or acid reflux, especially if they're otherwise healthy,' the expert said. 'But when a sore throat won't go away and it doesn't respond to normal treatments, it's time to investigate.' Earlier this month, The Sun reported that Rock star David Roach has been diagnosed with a "very aggressive" form of cancer after symptoms of a 'fever and a cough'. This would suggest that David has head and neck cancer, of which squamous cell carcinoma is the most common type. Val Kilmer, best known for movies such as 1986's Top Gun and 1995's Batman Forever, died of pneumonia this April. The actor's death follows years of rumoured health problems, one of which he opened up about in a 2017 interview. Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Kilmer revealed he had a two-year fight with throat cancer after being diagnosed in 2014. Head and neck cancers can occur in more than 30 parts of head and neck, including the mouth, throat, nose, sinuses, ears and salivary glands. But collectively, head and neck cancer is the eighth most common type of the disease in the UK. There are around 13,000 new cases every year - or 35 every day - and numbers are increasing 30 per cent each decade, experts warn. Common bacteria in the mouth can 'melt up to 99% of cancer cells' and could lead to new treatments It kills more than 4,000 annually. Symptoms of head and neck cancer, like Dr Jiri said, can be subtle, or resemble other less serious conditions, meaning it is often diagnosed at a late stage. But the earlier it's caught, the better the chance of successful treatment and ultimately, survival. Symptoms can include: Persistent sore throat Ear pain without infection Hoarseness or voice changes Trouble swallowing Lump in the neck Unexplained weight loss 'If you've had a sore throat for more than three weeks, especially if it's on one side, or you have ear pain without an infection, speak to your GP," the expert said. He added that while smokers and regular drinkers are more at risk, even people without obvious risk factors are being diagnosed. But prevention is also key, and making several lifestyle changes can decrease your chance of developing cancer, the Oracle Head & Neck Cancer UK (OHNCUK) say on its website. This includes: Quitting tobacco use (smoking cigarettes, cigars and pipes, chewing tobacco, e-cigarettes, and using snuff) Limiting alcohol intake Monitoring and taking care of your oral health Getting the HPV vaccine According to Cancer Research UK, up to 64 per cent of head and neck cancer cases are linked to exposure to tobacco smoke. Between 22 and 38 per cent are linked to alcohol consumption, and as many as 80 per cent are connected to HPV infection. Microplastics could raise cancer risk Environmental pollution from the air we breathe might also play a role, Dr Jiri warned. 'Microplastics and airborne pollutants can irritate delicate tissues in the throat and airways,' he said. 'We don't yet know the full impact. But chronic exposure could increase inflammation and potentially raise cancer risk over time.' He said most sore throats are harmless. But warned people to trust their gut if something feels off. 'Most sore throats are harmless. But if it drags on, get it checked,' he said. 'Cancers in this area are very treatable when caught early. Especially with targeted therapies like proton beam treatment.' Proton beam therapy is a precise type of radiation that targets cancer cells while causing less damage to surrounding healthy tissue. It's often used for hard-to-reach tumours and causes fewer side effects than standard radiotherapy, a common cancer treatment.
