Property Tax Receipts Rise 20%,89Cr Collected In First Quarter
1 2 Nagpur: Approximately 22.98% of Nagpur's 8.36 lakh property owners paid their taxes in the first quarter of the 2025–26 financial year to avail the rebate scheme — 15% for online and 10% for offline payments — offered by the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the period. Between April 1 and June 30, as many as 1,92,324 taxpayers collectively paid Rs88.85 crore in property tax. Of the total, 96,993 property owners used online platforms like the NMC website, the My Nagpur mobile app, and the WhatsApp chatbot, paying a total of Rs 49.92 crore. The remaining 95,331 taxpayers paid Rs35.97 crore at zonal offices and special camps. The trend signals both improved compliance and a rising preference for digital modes of payment. NMC commissioner Abhijeet Chaudhari rolled out the rebate scheme to encourage early payments. The scheme, backed by an aggressive outreach strategy, was instrumental in improving the tax collection. In the light of early trends and collection patterns, Chaudhari has revised the revenue target to Rs400 crore from Rs350 crore set earlier. Compared to Rs73.13 crore collected in the same quarter last year, this year's tally marks a 20% increase — affirming the success of NMC's digital push and incentive-led model. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Perdagangkan CFD Emas dengan Broker Tepercaya IC Markets Mendaftar Undo Post the first quarter, the civic body is offering rebates of 10% for online and 5% for offline property tax payments made till Dec 31, 2025. For effective implementation of the drive, Chaudhari chaired several review meetings with the tax department. Additional commissioner Vaishnavi B personally monitored zone-wise performance and visited properties to ensure ground level execution. Deputy commissioner Milind Meshram supervised the setting up of special tax camps in zonal offices, public gardens, housing societies, and schools. Taxpayers were encouraged to use their Unique Property Identification Number (UPIN) to quickly access their records and make payments online. Many preferred the convenience of paying from home, avoiding queues and travel. The civic body also ran creative awareness campaigns featuring characters like Sholay's Gabbar Singh to catch public attention. Slogans such as 'I Am a Responsible Taxpayer' were put up across the city and widely shared on social media, contributing to the enthusiastic public response. A last-minute rush on June 30, the final day for rebates, saw a record-breaking collection of Rs 5.88crore in a single day. Several zonal offices operated late into the night to handle the surge. Among the ten zones, Laxmi Nagar led with collections of Rs13.90 crore, followed by Hanuman Nagar (Rs11.37 crore) and Mangalwari (Rs10.81 crore). Govt relief package: 110 Surat schools submit 3,200 forms for fee assistance
At least 110 schools in Surat submitted over 3,200 application forms for fee assistance — as a part of the state government relief package for diamond polishers' children — benefiting 10,921 students to the Surat District Industries Centre on Monday, sources familiar with the matter said on Tuesday. The forms will be verified by the Surat Diamond Association before being forwarded to the approval committee headed by District Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi. Earlier in May, the state government announced a special assistance package for the diamond industry. Under the relief package, the state government will cover the school fees of children of diamond polishers, providing an annual sum of Rs 13,500 for one year. The criteria to avail the scheme benefits include the diamond polisher being unemployed for the last year and having worked in the industry for at least three years. The government will directly pay the fees to the schools. The diamond industry has been experiencing a prolonged period of recession for over two-and-a-half years now. The diamond polishers, along with middle and small diamond unit owners, have been facing great financial difficulty due to the reduced demand for polished diamonds in the international market. There are over 4,000 small, medium, and large diamond factories in Surat city, employing a workforce of over 5 lakh diamond workers. Out of the 10 polished diamonds found in the world, eight are cut and polished in Surat city. The majority of the workforce in the diamond industry hails from Saurashtra and other parts of Gujarat and are settled in Surat city. Following the announcement of a special relief package by the state government, schools were instructed to make students and their parents aware of the scheme. The school authorities had also distributed forms among the students, seeking all necessary details. The form submission is being done in three phases, with the first phase ending on Monday, while the second and third phases are scheduled for July 7 and 23, according to sources in the Surat district administration. On Monday, 110 schools submitted 3,200 forms to the district industries commissioner. Majority of such schools are located in Katargam, Kapodara, Sarthana, and Varachha areas in Surat city. Surat District Industries Commissioner Jigar Dave told The Indian Express, 'We have received 3,200 application forms from 110 schools, and the number of beneficiaries is over 10,921 students'. 'We will be sending these forms to the Surat Diamond Association for verification, including confirmation of whether the applicant is actually a diamond polisher and if they have been jobless for the last year. There are two more phases left for accepting such forms. Once these forms are verified, it will be sent to the scrutiny committee, and later it will reach the approval committee headed by Surat District Collector Dr Sourabh Pardhi'. Surat Diamond Association President Jagdish Khunt told The Indian Express, 'We are expecting more such forms in the coming days. A core committee meeting regarding the disbursement of the special assistance package will be held on Thursday'. 'We already have a staff crunch. How are we supposed to handle 3,200 forms? We will share our concerns with the committee head, the Surat District Collector. We are also preparing for our upcoming loose diamond auction event which will be held in Surat city from July 11 to 13. How will we take care of so much work?' Khunt asked.

HC orders 220 flats' registry after builder in Noida offers to pay Rs25cr more
Noida: The Allahabad high court has asked Noida Authority to execute flat registries at Grand Omaxe and Forest Spa projects in Sector 93B, paving the way for 220 families to finally get their property documents. The order came after the developer agreed to deposit an additional Rs 25 crore with the Authority in two weeks, making 50 more flats eligible for registry. The company had earlier deposited Rs 93 crore under the state govt's rehabilitation policy for stalled projects, which allowed 170 flats to be cleared for registration. The projects — comprising 1,692 sanctioned flats in total — had 678 pending registries among them. The issue first surfaced in 2018, when 30 Grand Omaxe allottees approached the high court, alleging they were denied tripartite sub-lease deeds despite paying the full amount because of the developer's unpaid lease premium. It clarified that if the developer deposited the full arrears with interest, the Authority could process applications for completion or occupation certificates of those additional projects. The case expanded when Forest Spa homebuyers — with their three towers and 176 flats — joined the litigation in 2021. Its AOA urged the court to hear their petition jointly with Grand Omaxe, saying both projects concerned the same developer and land parcel. A breakthrough came through UP govt's Dec 2023 order, which offered relief to stalled projects if developers paid 25% of recalculated dues. The developer's original dues of Rs 545 crore were revised to Rs 374 crore, considering a two-year 'zero period' during the Covid pandemic. After it paid the mandatory advance of 25% or Rs 93 crore, the developer unlocked permission to register 170 flats. During recent hearings, the developer insisted it was willing to pay the remaining dues so that flats in both Grand Omaxe and Forest Spa could be registered. On May 29, the court suggested an amicable settlement, following which the developer agreed to deposit another Rs 25 crore within a month. The Authority informed the court this additional amount would pave the way for 50 more registries. It told the court there would be "no impediment in granting occupancy certificates and other necessary permissions" for the two projects. The bench of Justices Manoj Kumar Gupta and Anish Kumar Gupta acknowledged the submission made by the Authority about the possibility of both projects being granted OCs within four weeks. The bench also ordered that any dispute regarding sub-lease entitlement must be resolved by the Authority CEO within a week. If homebuyers fail to complete formalities within two weeks of notification, the next person on the waiting list would get the opportunity, it clarified. "The list of homebuyers, along with the date of buyer-builder agreement or date of allotment provided by the developer, and the list submitted by the Forest Spa Association of Apartment Owners with names of transferees, successors, or joint owners, would be used for executing sub-leases," the court observed. The Authority must also file a status report by the next hearing, scheduled this month itself. This report will outline the progress of sub-leases and any remaining issues, ensuring that eligible homebuyers can secure legal ownership of their flats.
