Animated film to mark 350 years since Great Fire of Northampton

BBC News2 days ago
A new animated film is being created to mark 350 years since a town fire broke out, and the public is invited to help bring it to life.Northampton Film Festival (NFF) is leading the project, which starts on Saturday, and will reflect both the events of the 1675 Great Fire of Northampton and the modern-day spirit of the town it transformed. The fire tore through 700 of the town's 850 buildings and claimed 11 lives.Becky Carrier, director of NFF, said: "We hope people, young and old, will come down to the Northants Makers Market to think about the unique essence of Northampton."
The fire, believed to have started from sparks from an open fire at a home in St Mary's Street, quickly spread, and residents sought refuge in the Market Square.Despite efforts to control it, prominent buildings, including All Hallows Church, were destroyed.Following a community-driven effort, the town raised £25,000 to fund reconstruction.
'Community spirit
To commemorate the anniversary, NFF is running a series of free creative activities throughout July and August as part of a five-month programme that also features light shows, art exhibitions, processions and themed displays. On Saturday, the public can meet professional animators, sketch elements for the film's opening scenes and add their ideas to a "Great Fire wall." Children are also invited to cast spells for a future Northampton, with help from a "Great Fire Wizard".Ms Carrier added her own imagined spell would contain "a pinch of rebel energy, a cup of rainbow paint and a bucket load of community spirit".The final film will include the public's creations alongside historical commentary and voices from Northampton residents. It is set to premiere in the town's Market Square on 20 September.

Airline star Jane Boulton in embarrassing blunder as she misses her flight – years after scolding late passengers

STAR of iconic hit TV show Airline, Jane Boulton, has been left red-faced after making a huge blunder. The TV personality, who found fame appearing on the ITV series, famously quipped to passengers it was "easy if you get here on time" but has now found herself missing her first ever flight over her own lateness. 5 5 Jane, whose episodes of Airline went viral last year and in 2023, took to her TikTok account to discuss how she had been unable to board her flight as planned after being too late to the airport to be checked in. Revealing that she was due to head to Gatwick Airport after attending a podcast recording, Jane found herself stuck in traffic that prevented her from arriving on time. Appearing that karma was out to get her, she said to the camera: "Came to for an interview with Lewis Nicholls yesterday and, guess what guys, for the first time in my life it was not easy because I did not get there on time. "We got stuck in the most horrific traffic on the way to Gatwick, there was an accident and literally we came off the motorway to queue up for the Gatwick turn off and it took us probably an hour to get from there." In a bitter blow, Jane was just ONE minute late to the check-in desk. And despite being Britain's most well-known check-in lady, her celebrity status and previous credentials did not help her as she was still denied the chance to board the plane after asking very nicely. Jane continued: "We missed the check-in by how long? One minute. And as nice as I was... but no, she wasn't having any of it. "So we missed our little flight with Eastern Airways and had to book on a train, so we should have arrived here at 10 yesterday morning and we got here at about four, three o'clock. "So I know how people feel now, and I can honestly say a lot of people out there are probably thinking 'karma'." Jane was based at Luton Airport working for EasyJet on their check-in desk and became a hit with reality TV fans thanks to her no-nonsense attitude. She often clashed with unruly customers and was never afraid to put them in their place. Her fans were quick to make light of the situation as they quoted many of Jane's viral catchphrases that she often used on late passengers on the show, back to her. One wrote on the post: "Well I'm sorry but a coffee shop does not look like departures (love you Jane)." Another added: "Jane, it's a plane not a bus, much love as always though." 5 5 As a third said: "It is easy if you get here on time as Jane Boulton once told a customer." Jane ceased working in the airline industry in 2014 and shortly after began running her own business, Party Paradise UK. She found herself thrust back into the spotlight when Airline found a new lease of life via TikTok with various clips and episodes going viral - 20 years after they were first aired. It saw Jane make a return to mainstream fame in 2023 and she has since built up an impressive online following. She has appeared on This Morning and various podcasts reflecting about her time on the show. Jane has also become a favourite for brand partnerships and has raked in the cash working with a whole host of companies. One full circle moment saw Jane collaborate with EasyJet as a brand ambassador for a series of viral video clips last year. 5

Kelly Osbourne shares her support for dad Ozzy as she watches him reunite with Black Sabbath for the final time in emotional show

shared her support for her dad Ozzy as she arrived in Birmingham for his final live show on Saturday. The frontman, 76, reunited with all his original Black Sabbath bandmates Tony Lommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward for the first time since 2005 to bid an emotional farewell to his decades of performing live on stage. Her mother, Sharon, who has been married to the rocker since 1982 also proved she is still his number one fan as she gushed about her love for him all this years later. Sharing an update to her Instagram Story, Kelly, 40, snapped a photo of herself in the car with a friend. She wrote: 'On our way back to the beginning'. She later posted another picture with singer YungBlud, who stopped off to watch Black Sabbath before headlining his own show in Belgium later that night. Kelly looked sensational for the gig, dressed in a leopard print dress, with her hair styled in big bouncy waves. Just two weeks ago, the TV personality posted a heartwarming video for Father's Day which included a montage of pictures and videos of herself and Ozzy, as well as some of him playing with his grandson. She captioned the post: 'Happy Father's Day daddy. I love you more than anyone or anything in the world! 'I am so proud to be your daughter and Beyond honored to watch you be the best #Papa in the world to my son! 'You are my #hero I love you soooooooooo f****n much!' It comes as Ozzy sent fans into a frenzy as he brought the house down in Birmingham 's Villa Park on Saturday night for his final ever performance. Taking to the stage, Ozzy appeared overwhelmed by the support from the cheering crowds as he thanked them in a touching message and poignantly admitted: 'You have no idea how I feel.' Their final showdown comes amid concerns for Ozzy's health after he has undergone seven surgeries in the past five years, including a fourth spinal operation in 2023. Ozzy, who has also been battling Parkinson's disease since 2003, plans to keep recording music but is saying farewell to live music in what is sure to be an tearful night. After selling out in minutes, over 42,000 fans packed into Villa Park for the aptly-titled Back to the Beginning show, which saw Ozzy and Black Sabbath return to their hometown - 56 years after they formed there. And it was quite the moment as Ozzy - who is married to Sharon Osbourne - walked out on stage for his solo set as deafening cheers could be heard all around the jam-packed stadium. The rocker previously said he was unsure whether he was going to stand or sit down to perform due to his spinal operations, and he made an epic arrival on stage in a black quilted throne with a huge bat on top. With his band putting on a rocking performance around him, Ozzy proved his vocals are as strong as ever as he belted out some of their best-known heavy metal hits. Rocking his signature eyeliner and black nails, the 'Prince of Darkness' wore a leather ensemble and amped the crowds up as he put his hand to his ear while listening to them scream. 'It's so good to be on this f***ing stage,' Ozzy admitted, before adding: 'Let the madness begin!' He appeared overwhelmed with emotional at one point as he thanked the crowd for their steadfast support during his five decades in music. 'You've got no idea how I feel. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,' he gushed after finishing Suicide Solution. Ozzy kicked off his set with hits including I Don't Know, and Blizzard of Ozz as he got the crowds dancing and cheering from the start. He appeared to be having the time of his life on stage as he soaked up every moment of his final show, egging fans on and wildly waving his arms in the air. He looked completely overwhelmed with the crowd as he finished his short-and-sweet solo set with Crazy Train, with confetti blasting into the air as the music stopped. After Ozzy finished up his solo set, headliners Black Sabbath took to the stage to close the show, bringing the epic 10-hour long concert to a rocking finish. Since their last gig together in 2005, Black Sabbath has played in partial reunions but never in their original line-up, so Saturday's occasion was momentous for heavy metal fans around the globe.

The reality star, 34, looked incredible in the pleated PVC one-piece with buckle detail. 5 5 The Irish stunner wore a pair of knee-high leather boots to match her showstopping dress. TV presenter Maura showcased her new chic updo with her brunette tresses in a bun and her wispy fringe to one side. Maura was seen posing for a string of photos at the legendary home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone Racecourse. The Love Island alumni flashed her tanned legs in the mini outfit and a pair of Prada sunglasses. Maura's outing comes just a few weeks after she enjoyed a beach break for an add with huge fashion brand Guess. The TV personality has been named as one of the stars of the upcoming series of The Traitors USA. Maura will appear alongside Real Housewives legends Lisa Rinna, Porsha Williams, Dorinda Medley and Candiace Bassett. A source told us last week: 'Maura is becoming a huge star across the pond and her slot on The Traitors is just part of that. 'The future is bright — and has stars and stripes.' Rumours swirled she had joined the US version of the TV mystery game — which always has a celeb cast — when she stepped aside from hosting Love Island USA's sister show Aftersun. But in an announcement video this week, she told Aussie replacement Sophie Monk: 'Don't get too comfy, I'm coming back.' Maura has just become a global ambassador for L'Oreal and is fresh from a posh brand trip with Space NK to Mykonos, where she posed in her bikini. She was joined by fellow Love Islander Amber Gill, looking red hot in a sparkly mini dress. The star was previously said to be 'relieved' to have been offered work from L'Oreal, who have given her six-figures after impressing with her shoot for MAC cosmetics.
