GAIL (India) successfully commissions breakwater project at Dabhol LNG Terminal
With the commissioning of the breakwater after receipt of all statutory approvals, Dabhol LNG Terminal has now been designated an all-weather port which is a critical transformation that ensures safe and reliable LNG operations even during the Southwest monsoon, traditionally a challenging period for marine logistics on India's West coast.
Strategically located on the Maharashtra coastline, the Dabhol LNG Terminal has a regasification capacity of 5.0 MMTPA and serves as a vital link in India's gas supply network via the Dabhol Bangalore and Dabhol-Panvel cross-country pipelines. Dabhol is an island breakwater (unlike conventional land-connected structures) showcasing a feat of advanced marine engineering. This ambitious project, involving extensive collaboration among multiple stakeholders, posed complex technical challenges and required innovative, customized solutions.
The successful commissioning of the breakwater is expected to significantly enhance vessel accessibility and improve capacity utilization at the terminal, bolstering energy infrastructure and supply reliability.

At 9:20 am, Sensex was down 50 points or 0.05 per cent at 81,714 and Nifty was down 17 points or 0.07 per cent at 24,951. Marginal selling was also seen in midcap and smallcap stocks. According to analysts, the single-most important factor which the market will be focusing on in the coming days will be the outcome of the trade talks between the US and India. "If an interim trade deal between the two countries is reached with a tariff rate of less than 20 per cent on India, that would be a positive from the market perspective," said Dr VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Ltd. On the sectoral front, auto, IT, PSU bank, pharma, FMCG, media, energy, infra, consumption and PSE were major losers, while financial services, metal and realty were trading in the green. In the Sensex pack, Axis Bank, Reliance, Infosys, HCL tech, Tech Mahindra, TCS, Sun Pharma, Titan, M&M, HUL, Asian Paints, NTPC, Tata Motors and BEL were losers. Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Eternal, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance and Trent were major gainers. Most Asian markets were trading with gains. Shanghai, HongKong, Seoul, Bangkok and Jakarta were in the green, while Tokyo was trading in the red. US markets closed in mixed zone. Main indices Dow Jones was down 0.32 per cent and Nasdaq was up 0.05 per cent. On the institutional front, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) turned net buyers on July 18 with purchases worth Rs 374.74 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) continued their tenth session of buying, with net purchases worth Rs 2,103.51 crore. Considering the current environment of elevated volatility and mixed global cues, traders should maintain a cautious sell-on-rise strategy, especially when using leverage, said Mandar Bhojane from Choice Equity Broking Private Limited.

Rupee falls 20 paise to 86.36 against U.S. dollar in early trade
The rupee depreciated 20 paise to 86.36 against the U.S. dollar in early trade on Monday (July 21, 2025), weighed down by the overall strength of the American currency in the overseas market and a negative trend in domestic equities. Forex traders said the rupee extended its slide with the breach of the key 86.00 level accelerating the decline as a recovering dollar index sapped rupee sentiment. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 86.27 against the greenback. In initial trade, it witnessed a low of 86.36, registering a fall of 20 paise over its previous close. On Friday (July 18, 2025), the rupee settled 4 paise lower at 86.16 against the U.S. dollar. Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback's strength against a basket of six currencies, fell 0.02% to 98.46. "As the dollar recovered, the Indian rupee has been showing downside syndromes and is expected to move between 85.90 to 86.40 with a downward bias for the rupee," said Anil Kumar Bhansali, Head of Treasury and Executive Director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, went up by 0.12% to $69.36 per barrel in futures trade. Forex traders said all eyes are now on the outcome of India-U.S. trade talks, especially as the August 1 deadline for potential tariffs on Indian exports draws near. If the discussions fail or get delayed, Indian exporters could face fresh pressure — adding to the rupee's challenges. However, if a deal is reached, it could offer a much-needed breather. Until then, the uncertainty is likely to keep market participants cautious, CR Forex Advisors MD — Amit Pabari said. Pabari further added that for now, the trend continues to favour a weaker rupee. "The pair may find support around 85.70-85.80, but having crossed 86.00, the door is open for a possible move toward 86.50-86.80," he added. Meanwhile, in the domestic equity market, Sensex declined 155.73 points or 0.19% to 81,602.00, while Nifty fell 63.55 points or 0.25% to 24,904.85. Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) purchased equities worth ₹374.74 crore on a net basis on Friday, according to exchange data.
