IDEX Corporation Just Beat EPS By 5.8%: Here's What Analysts Think Will Happen Next
It's been a mediocre week for IDEX Corporation (NYSE:IEX) shareholders, with the stock dropping 14% to US$159 in the week since its latest second-quarter results. The result was positive overall - although revenues of US$865m were in line with what the analysts predicted, IDEX surprised by delivering a statutory profit of US$1.74 per share, modestly greater than expected. Following the result, the analysts have updated their earnings model, and it would be good to know whether they think there's been a strong change in the company's prospects, or if it's business as usual. We've gathered the most recent statutory forecasts to see whether the analysts have changed their earnings models, following these results. We've found 21 US stocks that are forecast to pay a dividend yield of over 6% next year. See the full list for free. Taking into account the latest results, the current consensus from IDEX's twelve analysts is for revenues of US$3.43b in 2025. This would reflect an okay 2.8% increase on its revenue over the past 12 months. Statutory per share are forecast to be US$6.25, approximately in line with the last 12 months. Yet prior to the latest earnings, the analysts had been anticipated revenues of US$3.44b and earnings per share (EPS) of US$6.70 in 2025. So it looks like there's been a small decline in overall sentiment after the recent results - there's been no major change to revenue estimates, but the analysts did make a minor downgrade to their earnings per share forecasts. Check out our latest analysis for IDEX The consensus price target held steady at US$201, with the analysts seemingly voting that their lower forecast earnings are not expected to lead to a lower stock price in the foreseeable future. It could also be instructive to look at the range of analyst estimates, to evaluate how different the outlier opinions are from the mean. Currently, the most bullish analyst values IDEX at US$225 per share, while the most bearish prices it at US$170. With such a narrow range of valuations, the analysts apparently share similar views on what they think the business is worth. Taking a look at the bigger picture now, one of the ways we can understand these forecasts is to see how they compare to both past performance and industry growth estimates. It's pretty clear that there is an expectation that IDEX's revenue growth will slow down substantially, with revenues to the end of 2025 expected to display 5.7% growth on an annualised basis. This is compared to a historical growth rate of 7.3% over the past five years. Juxtapose this against the other companies in the industry with analyst coverage, which are forecast to grow their revenues (in aggregate) 4.3% per year. So it's pretty clear that, while IDEX's revenue growth is expected to slow, it's still expected to grow faster than the industry itself. The Bottom Line The biggest concern is that the analysts reduced their earnings per share estimates, suggesting business headwinds could lay ahead for IDEX. Happily, there were no major changes to revenue forecasts, with the business still expected to grow faster than the wider industry. The consensus price target held steady at US$201, with the latest estimates not enough to have an impact on their price targets. Following on from that line of thought, we think that the long-term prospects of the business are much more relevant than next year's earnings.
