Geagea to authorities: Prove Lebanon is a real state by protecting UNIFIL
In a statement, Geagea said that if the U.N. peacekeeping force is overstepping its mandate, the Lebanese government should formally notify it.
'But if UNIFIL is operating within its authorized scope—as clearly outlined in U.N. Resolution 1701 and in every renewal of its mandate—then it is the duty of the relevant security agencies to not only intervene immediately to stop clashes between local youth and peacekeepers but also to arrest and prosecute those attacking them.'
He warned that the government's passive stance, acting as a mere mediator between UNIFIL and its attackers, weakens the state's authority and sends the wrong message—one that suggests nothing has changed in Lebanon despite years of crisis.
'This must be urgently corrected,' he said, 'by arresting the perpetrators and acting in a way that signals the presence of a functioning state.'

G7 urges talks to resume deal on Iran nuclear program
On Monday, foreign ministers from the Group of Seven nations said they supported the ceasefire between Israel and Iran and urged for negotiations to resume for a deal to address Iran's nuclear program, according to a joint statement. Before the ceasefire was announced, Washington struck Iran's nuclear sites, and Iran targeted a U.S. base in Qatar in retaliation. The G7 foreign ministers said they urged "all parties to avoid actions that could further destabilize the region." U.S. Middle East Envoy Steve Witkoff has said talks between Washington and Tehran were "promising" and that Washington was hopeful for a long-term peace deal. The G7 top diplomats denounced threats against the head of the U.N. nuclear watchdog on Monday after a hardline Iranian newspaper said IAEA boss Rafael Grossi should be tried and executed as an Israeli agent. On June 12, the U.N. nuclear watchdog's 35-nation Board of Governors declared Iran in breach of its non-proliferation obligations for the first time in almost 20 years. Lebanon's FM says better Syrian economy will benefit Beirut
Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji said lifting international sanctions on Syria would help revive its economy and reduce smuggling across the Lebanese border. In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Rajji said Syria's improving conditions would have a direct impact on Lebanon, particularly by lowering illegal cross-border activity. Rajji noted a shift in Damascus, saying the new Syrian administration recognizes Lebanon's sovereignty and is open to border demarcation talks. He confirmed receiving historical French documents, including maps from the 1920s and 1930s, that could assist in settling the Lebanon-Syria border issue. The documents have been handed to the Lebanese defense ministry for technical review. Rajji stressed that demarcating the border is a top priority, alongside the return of Syrian refugees and the fate of Lebanese missing in Syria.
