Mercedes-Benz India plans two-phase price hike from June 2025

Time of India09-05-2025
Mercedes-Benz India
announced a two-stage price revision for its model range, effective June 1st and September 1st, 2025, due to a significant increase in forex rates since January 2025 impacting component and product costs. The staggered approach aims to provide customers with flexibility in planning their purchases, while the company absorbs a portion of the cost increase through increased localization efforts and offers financial solutions to minimize customer impact. The initial price increase will take effect on June 1st, 2025, with a further increase of up to 1.5per cent scheduled for September 1st, 2025.
The luxury carmaker cited a steep increase in forex rates since January 2025 as the primary driver for the price adjustments. This increase has severely impacted the cost structure of components and products, particularly completely built-up units (CBUs).
June Price hike
The first phase of price revisions will take effect on June 1, 2025. Several models will see an increase in their ex-showroom prices.
The C 200 will see an increase of ₹0.9 lakh, moving from ₹59.4 lakh to ₹60.3 lakh. The GLC 300 4MATIC will increase by ₹1.5 lakh, from ₹76.8 lakh to ₹78.3 lakh.
The E 200 will see a price increase of ₹2.0 lakh, moving from ₹79.5 lakh to ₹81.5 lakh. The GLE 300d 4MATIC AMG Line will increase by ₹2.5 lakh, from ₹99.0 lakh to ₹101.5 lakh.
The EQS SUV 450 4MATIC will see a price increase of ₹3.0 lakh, moving from ₹128.0 lakh to ₹131.0 lakh. The GLS 450 4MATIC will increase by ₹3.1 lakh, from ₹133.9 lakh to ₹137.0 lakh.

Mercedes-Benz India to hike prices by up to 1.5% in September to offset weak rupee

Mercedes-Benz India is set to implement its third price hike of the year in September 2025, increasing prices by 1 to 1.5 per cent to counter the impact of a weakened Indian rupee against the euro, the company's MD and CEO Santosh Iyer told PTI in a recent interaction. The luxury carmaker had previously increased prices in January and again in July. Iyer attributed the latest revision to sustained currency pressure. 'There is another price hike coming up in September because of the euro. The last one month has remained at the 100 mark (₹), and that has not changed. Therefore, we will have to undertake an increase,' he said. Despite the price adjustments, Iyer noted that EMI affordability for customers has remained relatively unaffected, thanks to recent interest rate cuts. 'Around 80 per cent of our new car sales are financed. So, while the price of the car has gone up, EMIs have largely stayed stable,' he explained. The demand side On the demand front, Iyer expressed optimism, citing continued economic growth and consumer appetite for luxury vehicles. 'There is still strong demand in the market. Buyers also understand that price hikes due to currency fluctuation are beyond our control,' he added. Addressing concerns around supply chain disruptions, particularly rare-earth magnets essential for EV production, Iyer clarified that Mercedes-Benz India is not currently impacted. 'Our supply chain, managed from Stuttgart, is stable. We have sufficient stock and haven't faced any issues so far,' he said. However, Iyer tempered growth expectations for the current year, citing global headwinds. While India's overall passenger vehicle market is expanding by 2-3 per cent, the luxury segment is growing at a faster clip of 5-6 per cent. 'Growth may be flattish this year due to global geopolitical concerns, but continued momentum in automotive demand remains a positive indicator,' he concluded.

Mercedes-Benz India's First-quarter Sales Hit Record High On Strong Demand For Top-end Models, EVs

Last Updated: "Our sharp focus on bolstering the top-end luxury (segment) has been highly successful in influencing customer preferences," Mercedes-Benz India CEO Santosh Iyer said. German luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz said its first-quarter sales in India hit an all-time high, rising 10% to 4,238 units, on strong demand for its high-end models and electric vehicles (EVs). Demand for luxury models in India, the world's third-largest car market, has steadily risen over the last few years as rapid economic growth brought about a fundamental shift in attitude towards luxury purchases among its younger generation. Luxury car sales account for a little over 1% of India's 4 million units-a-year market. 'Our sharp focus on bolstering the top-end luxury (segment) has been highly successful in influencing customer preferences," Mercedes-Benz India CEO Santosh Iyer said. Sales of top-end models, like the S-Class and the Mercedes-Maybach portfolio, rose 20% between April and June, while EV sales jumped than two-fold to form 8% of Mercedes-Benz India's overall sales. Mercedes' core segment, which includes the C- and E-Class sedans and the GLC and GLE sports utility vehicles, grew 10% in the quarter. These cars account for 60% of the company's total sales in India. Mercedes leads sales of luxury vehicles in India, followed by BMW and Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover (JLR). It produces and assembles a handful of models, including some EVs, from its Chakan factory in the western state of Maharashtra. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
